Chapter 342: Chapter 140: So, Who Suffers a Loss?

"What exactly did you bring me here for?" Medea asked with a face full of impatience.

"I have something nice to show you!" Marquina said, beaming as she dragged Medea by the arm, "Come on, come on!"

She led Medea through a maze of twisted alleys until they finally entered a house.

Inside the room was empty, with only a few chairs and tables, but some of the walls were made of special glass, allowing a clear view into the next room.

"Is this... one-way glass?"

One-way glass meant that from this side, they could see the great hall opposite and the Transcendents wrapped in black robes stationed there. From the other side, it generally looked just like a regular wall—a sleazy design made specifically for peeping.

"I’m not interested in playing any peeping games with you," Medea said, making a move to leave, only to be pulled back by Marquina again.

"Don’t you want to know how Aske would handle this or that situation when you’re not around?" Her smile was crafty and Medea’s ears pricked up noticeably at the mention of "Aske."

"Cough, I’m not interested in any boring tests of character or anything like that," Medea said in an ’I-can’t-deal-with-you’ kind of way, "But since you’re insisting on dragging me here, I might as well take a look."

"Yeah! Yeah!" Marquina was ecstatic.

Then, the two Enchanting Demons saw Aske burst through the front door opposite them, taking out everyone present with lightning-fast skill and efficiency.

"Oh dear," said Marquina, somewhat surprised and licking her lips, "Your boyfriend’s unexpectedly formidable, isn’t he? I just wonder if his own weapon is as ferocious as the one he wields..."

"Shut up," Medea said irritably, "Don’t mess with him, you’ll regret it."

"Of course..." Marquina clearly wasn’t listening and her gaze wandered.

Next, Aske pushed open the door to the inner room. The two Enchanting Demons turned to look through another pane of one-way glass and saw an Enchanting Demon lying on the ground in the center of a red Array, like a dog prostrate on the ground.

"You’re not thinking of..." Medea’s face turned a bit ugly.

"A hero always has a weakness for beauty," Marquina said with a grin, "Now let’s see if Lord Aske is the kind of hero who is gentle and considerate to women."

Indeed, as if to prove her point, the Enchanting Demon on the ground pitifully spoke of the only two ways to "break the ritual."

"Damn!" Medea was so furious that she was about to use her Mind Power immediately to go through the wall and warn Aske not to fall for it, but Marquina stopped her just in time.

"You don’t have much faith in him, Your Highness?" Marquina mocked.

"I’m just afraid you’ll lose too embarrassingly," Medea retorted, though her face clearly showed she was a bit insecure.

"I’m not afraid of losing; I adore paragons of virtue," Marquina laughed heartily, "Especially when they can’t withstand a test and fall from grace."

"You’re twisted," Medea remarked, and then she fell silent as Aske on the other side began to speak.

"Understood," said Aske, "Can I use my spear?"

"Yes, you... you can," the Enchanting Demon said with an adorable demeanor, timidly speaking, "Could you... could you be gentler, please? I’m afraid of pain..."

"Can’t help you there," Aske grabbed the Long Spear, "After all, it’s a sharp weapon, piercing flesh is always painful. You’ll just have to endure."

Enchanting Demon: ???

Seeing Aske move behind her, the Enchanting Demon quickly cried out:

"Wait a minute!"

"What’s wrong?" Aske asked, "Shouldn’t we hurry and interrupt the ritual?"

"You’re going to use your metal Long Spear?" The Enchanting Demon shrieked, her voice pitch rising an octave.

"Of course," Aske replied, "What else?"

"But I’ll die!" The Enchanting Demon was on the verge of tears.

"I won’t," Aske said. "I’ll be gentle."

"But no matter how gentle, it’s still sharp metal!" the Enchanting Demon still wanted to make an effort. "Can’t you use some other soft material? Like..."

"The hilt?" Aske asked.

"Can’t you lend a hand?" the Enchanting Demon finally snapped, glaring and yelling at him. "Are you a eunuch?"

"Of course not," Aske said earnestly. "That wouldn’t be right. What if you caught a disease?"

The two spectators across the wall:

Marquina: ...

Medea: ...

"You see, I knew it," Medea said, crossing her arms and letting out a long sigh, a confident smile on her face. "There’s safe and delicious meat delivered right to his doorstep, and he doesn’t eat it. Why would he go for the unhygienic meat from an outside stall?"

"I thought he was just putting on an act in front of you," It was now Marquina’s turn to look embarrassed. "Could there be a problem with him... that way?"

"Of course not," Medea replied. "He simply has a moral obsession."

Moral obsession... Marquina was at a loss for words. As an Enchanting Demon, the two concepts she couldn’t understand in her lifetime were "morality" and probably "obsession."

"Hmph," she also resentfully crossed her arms. "Anyway, he’s definitely not going to complete the task."

"Task?" Medea inquired.

"I asked him to rescue this Enchanting Demon alive," Marquina explained. "And I have the switch to the Array on the ground. If he doesn’t follow my demands, I won’t unlock the Array’s confinement."

"What did you offer as a task reward?" Medea asked.

"The Magic Potion Recipe for Shadow III," Marquina answered.

"How cunning," Medea commented. She certainly knew for whom that recipe was intended, and this scheme was both a lure and a seduction. Thankfully, the Squad Leader himself had a strong will and didn’t fall for it.

"Just wait," Marquina still harbored a faint hope. "Maybe for the sake of the reward, he might reluctantly persuade himself to commit?"

"He won’t," Medea stated firmly. "Aske is a very traditional man. He would never offer his body as you imagine."

"What if he ultimately decides to sacrifice himself?" Marquina maliciously asked.

"Then I’ll step in to stop him," Medea declared stubbornly. "In any case, I won’t let your conspiracy succeed."

Marquina: ?

"Wait a minute," Marquina suddenly snapped out of her confusion. "Isn’t this kind of thing considered a lucky perk for men? Why are we talking as if we’re asking him to pay a heavy price?"

Medea also became a bit confused: Right, if Aske actually went into battle, it would just be a pleasant experience for him! Wouldn’t the real loser be herself? Look at this green little hat just placed on my head. Does it look good?

"Marquina! You tricked me!" She was so angry that little sparks erupted all over her, and she growled through clenched teeth.

The two Enchanting Demons began to fight with their bare hands. Medea clawed furiously at her opponent’s face, while Marquina scratched her underarms. Soon, Medea was defeated.

"You slut!" Medea cursed in anger.

"Thanks for the compliment," Marquina smugly replied, for such a title was a compliment to an Enchanting Demon.

Medea was speechless; she had been mixing in the outside world for so long she had nearly forgotten the customs of the Enchanting Demons. Suddenly she looked across the wall and slowly dropped her jaw in astonishment.

Following Medea’s gaze, Marquina’s expression also stiffened.

In the opposite room, Aske had taken his Axe and pried open the floor along the edge of the Array.

Then he carried off the engraved Array’s floorboard, along with the bewildered Enchanting Demon perched on top, and left.
