Chapter 271: Chapter 69 First Victory

Nora fell silent.

Aske’s plan was very rational. She had to admit there were no flaws, and it might even be one of the best solutions currently.

Yet, she felt a strange discomfort—as if Sigrdrifa, battling in the arena, was not a living person to Aske but merely a tool to win. The sweat she shed, the blood splattering from her wounds, were just numbers in a cold calculation.

Winning at all costs, even if it meant using more dangerous tactics and risking severe injuries or death, seemed justified...

She suddenly shuddered, quickly activating her "Mind" ability to calm the fears swelling inside her.

What’s wrong with me? Why am I doubting Aske? He clearly cares more about this team than any of us...

She bit her lower lip guiltily, her mind a tumult. Meanwhile, Medea quickly started sending mind communications to Sigrdrifa, explaining Aske’s tactical plan in detail.

Sigrdrifa then burst into loud laughter, her body suddenly emitting intense electric light.

Electric light? What is this! The opposing Samurai’s pupils shrank as he saw the North Wind Axe cleave towards him.

The shield lifted, axe and shield clashed, the low temperature and electric current instantly travelled up into his arms, frost from the arm armor’s condensation and bouncing electric arcs. The Samurai forcefully suppressed the pain, feeling as though both of his arms were crippled.

Sigrdrifa suffered as well, the same damage reverberating through her body, severely damaging her arm muscles. Yet, she gritted her teeth and swung her axe down fiercely again.

Another powerful vertical chop struck the shield, the Samurai cried out in pain, feeling all his muscles spasm in the electric current, his arms nearly too numb to hold the shield handle.

Such damage, her body should also be unable to bear! How could she...

Stunned, the thought crossed his mind as the third axe blow fell directly.

This woman is insane!

She wants us both to perish!

The Samurai hastily stepped back, maneuvering the shield to dodge her attack.

"As I thought..." Sigrdrifa chuckled lowly, her voice trembling slightly with pain.

The previous two strikes had also inflicted significant damage on her body.

However, she preferred this life-threatening exchange of blows to being beaten without resistance. At least now, the one in a dire situation unable to counterattack was her opponent!

The cheers outside grew even more intense. Most of the citizens knew nothing about extraordinary powers; they only saw the Weisbach family’s female warrior being overwhelmed by the Wolf family’s Sword and Shield Warrior but the tide of battle quickly turned.

Though they didn’t know the reason, they cheered—Go, female warrior! Beat those Wolf pups!

Sigrdrifa had unleashed all her abilities, with mist and electric arcs swirling around her making her appear like a Titan giant from ancient ice fields. Each time she stepped forward and roared with her attack, the opposing Sword and Shield Warrior had to keep retreating, not daring to block her attacks with his shield, only slowly circling the arena.

In the Wolf family’s delegation stand, a man in a black robe just raised his hand when he was pressed down by Viscount Heinrich’s attendant beside him.

"Don’t rush," the attendant advised. "This is still the first fight. What will you do if you expose too early for the rest of the matches?"

The man under the black robe let out a sarcastic sneer but didn’t continue to speak.

Now, the situation on the field was clear. Faced with Sigrdrifa’s relentless attack, the Sword and Shield Warrior clearly had no intention of mutually assured destruction and could only keep dodging.

Seeing he couldn’t hit her with close-range attacks, Sigrdrifa simply picked up the North Wind Axe and hurled it. The Sword and Shield Warrior dodged a few times but was finally struck by the North Wind Axe against his shield, shuddering once again.

No, just dodging, this shield is really too heavy!

Considering her ability to transmit along metal, the defensive function of the shield was greatly weakened. Thus, the Sword and Shield Warrior had to drop the shield and grasp the longsword with both hands, preparing to meet (and dodge) her attack.

Now! Sigrdrifa hurled the North Wind Axe again while charging at full speed towards her opponent.

The Swordsman agilely rolled to the side, narrowly evading the throw of the North Wind Axe. This axe was bizarrely constructed; it would fly back into the female Samurai’s hand after each throw, evoking an inexplicable sense of dread in him.

However, this time Sigrdrifa did not reach out to catch the axe; instead, she charged directly towards the Swordsman. She dodged his vertical chop by moving to the left and then suddenly closed the distance between them.

Mountain-climbing!

With a shoulder charge that staggered him, her left hand had already grasped the wrist of his sword-holding arm.

Wrist twist! Misalignment! Cutting behind the legs!

Bare-handed blade snatch—Shoulder Wrap!

Before the Samurai could react, he was thrown to the ground by the enormous force, and his longsword flew from his grasp.

His arm twisted at an unnatural angle, pinned painfully to the ground by Sigrdrifa’s extraordinary strength. A struggle sent a sharp pain of misaligned joints shooting through him, so much so that he could only weakly scrape at the ground with his other arm, crying out in miserable pain.

At this moment, even the casual observer could tell that the Sword and Shield Warrior was no longer capable of turning the tables.

Watching from the stands, the Duke nodded, then whispered to a Court Attendant beside him, who immediately leaned over the edge of the stand and loudly proclaimed the victory of the Weisbach family.

"Duke, your subordinates are truly abundant in talent, even the female warriors are so valiant and fearless." Heinrich said half in compliment, half in veiled sarcasm.

Hiring a foreign female warrior, does the Weisbach family not even have capable men to fight?

"You lot fought well too," the Duke responded calmly, completely ignoring Heinrich’s odd remark.

Heinrich was left speechless, ashamed, and annoyed. Compared to hiring a foreign female fighter, the Wolf family looked even more disgraceful having been defeated by a foreign female in their first battle. As for the remark that they "fought well," it felt like a slap in the face, leaving him utterly speechless.

Sigrdrifa released the man’s arm and staggered off the field. Her body was riddled with frostbite, electric burns, and cuts from sharp weapons, and her arm was dislocated—a pitiful sight indeed.

Off the field, Nora, who had been waiting, saw her condition and immediately felt her eyes moisten.

"Why are you crying?" Sigrdrifa, sitting down to receive healing, laughed heartily without a care, "Didn’t I win?"

"Why push yourself so hard?" Nora asked sorrowfully.

Sigrdrifa fell silent.

"Of course, for victory," she finally answered seriously.

"Is it worth it?" Nora reset her dislocated arm, "What value or meaning is there in such a victory?"

Sigrdrifa was stumped again. She pondered for a long while before slowly saying:

"I just... didn’t want to let him down."

Now it was Nora’s turn to be at a loss for words. She silently bandaged Sigrdrifa’s wounds and said softly:

"Do you like him too?"

"Like? What do you mean?" Sigrdrifa asked, tilting her head in confusion.

"No, never mind." Nora activated Healing Touch, treating the injuries and damaged tissues on her body, thinking to herself that she must be crazy.

This silly girl, probably holding onto the trust Aske has in her, so she wants to repay him with all her might.

Confident in her conclusion, she breathed a long sigh of relief and said with a smile:

"All healed up! Now, take good care of your body and try not to train for a while, okay?"

"Mmhmm." Sigrdrifa nodded, responding with a grateful smile.
