Chapter 262: Chapter 60: Representatives to Fight

In the courtyard of the Weisbach Palace, the girls all burst into laughter when Eleanor colorfully narrated the tale of the "Square Sword Saint."

"The Squad Leader is so mean!"

"Exactly, it’s already not nice to hit someone, but why speak in a way that cuts so deep?"

"Do you think the Squad Leader was being sarcastic when he called him the ’Square Sword Saint’?"

"It’s not sarcasm. Would he be so infuriated if it were?"

When Medea found Lord Aske and said as much, he responded in bewilderment,

"Sarcasm? Not at all. The title ’Square Sword Saint’ is his nickname... Oh, that will be years from now."

Medea: ...

"So, you mean to say this guy will actually become a Sword Saint?" she asked doubtfully.

"Yes," Aske said, "The guy truly is a swordsmanship genius, and his Square Swordsmanship is very strong, you know? If any of you used a two-handed sword, I would have already taught you."

He’s a swordsmanship genius, and yet you still fumed at him? Medea was at a loss for words, and when she relayed this to the girls, they too fell into silence.

"So that mustached man is really strong?" Eleanor asked.

"He should be," Medea said with her arms crossed, "If even the Squad Leader says he’s strong, he can’t be that weak."

While the girls were filled with concern, Ludwig rushed into the courtyard from the door.

"Lord Aske, is that man truly strong?"

"Brother! You’ve been eavesdropping outside again!" Eleanor exclaimed in dismay.

"It’s not eavesdropping. I just happened to be passing by and overheard," Ludwig explained, "Eleanor, don’t you see the seriousness of this matter?"

"Seriousness?" Eleanor was perplexed. Wasn’t this just a performance-like knight fighting event?

Ludwig couldn’t help but sigh at her political insensitivity and began to explain to everyone.

In feudal states, a significant part of military power is not centralized in the hands of the sovereign but is dispersed among many vassal lords, especially those of higher rank.

In this world, the level of Extraordinary Power, particularly Physical Power, is also a critical factor that determines the outcome of wars.

For the Swan Family, who has long ruled Bavaria in the Weisbach Duchy, the precision of understanding the number and levels of Transcendents among the neighboring countries and ruling families, as well as the strength reflected in their ultimate military power, is paramount.

The problem is that the smaller lords below do not understand this, not to mention the vast layer of knights beneath them. Many knights know only of the existence of Transcendents but have no idea that Transcendents have levels of power.

Thus, challenges and combat competitions between hostile forces have become an important stage for flaunting one’s military prowess and deterring the opponent’s strength.

Put simply, to the knights, who are a bit dull, explaining how many high-level Transcendents our duchy has, their sequences, their abilities, and the extent of their Physical Power is like talking to a wall.

But just showcase formidable combat strength in a fair knight fighting event, and decisively defeat the opposing knights.

Our knights will think, "Ah, the high-end military might of our duchy is this frightening?" And become full of fighting spirit, their blood boiling with enthusiasm.

Correspondingly, the opposing knights couldn’t avoid feeling that "in terms of high-end military might within the Extraordinary Realm, our duchy’s strength seems somewhat inferior," and then start to hold a pessimistic attitude towards the entire war.

In fact, the gap in high-end military power between the Swan and Wolf Families is quite narrow, so the willingness to participate in war among the vassals significantly affects the outcome of the war.

If Lord Aske could crush his opponent here, it would undoubtedly be like giving a shot of adrenaline to the vassal knights beneath him before the battle.

On the other hand, if he suffered a terrible defeat, then those below would naturally begin to question the Swan Family’s upper echelon of military strength. Once morale starts to waver, they might end up slacking off or even colluding with the enemy.

After all, no one wants to fight a war that is undoubtedly lost.

"So, I do believe Lord Aske will defeat that Meyer," Ludwig finally said, "But I still want to hear it from you personally. What do you estimate your chances of winning this knight fight to be?"

"Uh," Aske thought for a moment, "One hundred percent."

Ludwig was in tears. One hundred percent? What kind of joke is that! Were you treating that Meyer fellow like a pushover? Show a little humility at least! Coming straight out with a 100% certainty of winning, how can I believe you!

"Hey, Squad Leader!" Eleanor immediately saw her own brother beginning to doubt and quickly reminded Aske, "Claiming one hundred percent is a bit too much, isn’t it? Could there not be any possibility of an unexpected situation?"

"Uh, then ninety-nine percent?" Aske replied, puzzled.

Everyone: ........

"Ninety-eight percent?" Aske frowned, "I can’t imagine there being such a high possibility of failure."

"Alright, alright." Ludwig was utterly speechless, "Being confident is a good thing. In that case, the honor of the Weisbach family is entrusted to you, Lord Aske."

"Oh, sure thing," Aske said with a smile.

Though they spoke as such, the girls had a considerable degree of confidence in the Squad Leader’s strength. Since he said "ninety-nine percent," they might as well take it as a definite win. So, everyone dispersed.

Just as Eleanor reached the door, Ludwig secretly pulled her aside and whispered:

"Sister, tell me honestly, does your Aske really have a chance against Meyer?"

"Your Squad Leader" I could still understand, but "your Aske" what kind of address is that?

Eleanor looked at him blankly and said:

"If he says it’s no problem, then it’s surely no problem."

"That’s very problematic, okay?" Ludwig said in exasperation, "Don’t blow your own trumpet before the battle and then fall at the first hurdle, leaving us unable to salvage the situation!"

"Hey, do you really understand how strong he is?" Eleanor said.

"That’s exactly why I’m worried because I don’t know!" Ludwig replied.

"If you’re so worried, then why did you let him take part?" Eleanor asked.

"I originally invited the Richartnal Knights, planning to have them represent our family in battle!" Ludwig said in frustration, "But who knew they’d all unanimously recommend your Aske!"

"So, you don’t trust the judgment of the Richartnal Knights?" Eleanor asked, "Or are you saying you don’t believe in the eyes of the Demigod Richartnal?"

Ludwig was left speechless. Since he originally planned to ask the Richartnal Knights to fight, it was only natural for Aske, being the Chief of the Richartnal Knights, to enter the battle; there really was no need for excessive suspicion.

"Hey? What if he’s actually Richartnal’s illegitimate son? Maybe his swordsmanship actually isn’t up to the standards of the Chief?" Ludwig wildly speculated, becoming anxious again.

"You’re so annoying!" Eleanor burst out, turned, and left, "Aske is from Constantinople! How could he possibly be Richartnal’s illegitimate son?"

"The East Solomon Empire?" Ludwig followed behind her, babbling, "Aren’t the people from Sirius generally weak in combat? Otherwise, why would the East Solomon Empire have fallen?

"Just shut up already!"
