Chapter 182: Chapter 86 Efficiency Comparison

With the high efficiency of The Azure Longsword’s members in strong killing, the pressure on the Steel Cross Mercenary Group had significantly decreased.

After all, the defense line had retreated, and the entire right flank of enemies had been cleared out.

Andrea felt quite pained by this, thinking, "That’s half the Spiritual Material right there."

But he wasn’t foolish enough to say it out loud.

The ones they could kill, those were the walking Spiritual Material; the ones they couldn’t kill, they were enemies, meaningless.

The gunners of the day were all attacking the Snow Monsters at the front line, and avoiding monster sniping was simple, just have the gunners shoot each of the Snow Monsters in the back.

But if Andrea did this, according to the rules, The Azure Longsword’s people would definitely stand by and watch, and then the Steel Cross Mercenary Group would have to face the entire pack of Snow Monsters head-on.

Unless he lost his mind, he wouldn’t pull that level of mass hate.

After the defensive line shrank, the Steel Cross Mercenary Group no longer had a shortage of hands and could implement a "one team on the front-line fighting" and "one team resting at the back" reserve rotation, greatly reducing casualties and swiftly turning the tide in the battle.

The members of The Azure Longsword, however, were much more fierce. Eleanor and Sigrdrifa alone managed to stop most of the Snow Monsters, with only an occasional one or two slipping through for the girls in the back to focus fire.

Hmm, focus fire?

Herman’s heart skipped a beat, as if he had suddenly realized something.

He continued to observe while distracted and finally discovered a shocking fact.

The Azure Longsword had a much higher combat efficiency than their Steel Cross Mercenary Group!

In the same amount of time, where his side had killed two Snow Monsters, The Azure Longsword had already taken down five!

When he reported this to Andrea, the latter immediately began to protest in disbelief,

"This can’t be! We have ten times their numbers!"

"It has nothing to do with numbers," Herman said with a gloomy face. "Against extraordinarily strong creatures like the Snow Monsters, hacking at them ten times from the front isn’t as good as stabbing them once in a vital spot."

"Look at how The Azure Longsword is doing it?"

Upon hearing this, Andrea turned to look and, in a moment, discovered the ingenuity, just like Herman had.

"Intentionally letting Snow Monsters through and then executing a focus fire?" Andrea said in shock, "Isn’t that too risky? If the Snow Monsters that get through aren’t dealt with immediately, the front-line warriors are at risk of being attacked from both sides!"

"And once the front defense line collapses, what follows is a complete avalanche of the situation, a team wipe isn’t out of the question!"

"Yes, the military education we received from childhood also emphasizes maintaining a tight defense line and formation pressure," Herman sighed. "But the fact is before us: once such high-risk Tactics are successfully deployed, the efficiency of focus fire far outweighs front-line confrontation."

"Because focus fire can easily attack the vital spots from the side and the back, whereas the front line can only deal damage from the front. Snow Monsters are known for their physical toughness and don’t fear head-on charges."

"Should we try it too? Let one Snow Monster through and then attack it with focus fire?" Andrea grew impatient. If they kept going on like this, The Azure Longsword might take away most of the materials from this wave of Snow Monsters.

"Do you have confidence?" Herman glanced at him.

"How could there be confidence?" Andrea said, "Such Tactics... if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t even have believed that it could be stable—any small mistake could lead to a collapse of the line!"

He gnashed his teeth in thought again, and then made up his mind, "Let’s go for it!"

Following Andrea’s new order, the Transcendents in the front lines were somewhat baffled.

On the battlefield, the dynamic force defense line was like a membrane of uneven thickness. Usually, the commander’s dispatch and orders were to reinforce wherever the membrane was weak to avoid it being punctured.

But Andrea’s order was, "Create a hole in the membrane," "deliberately let an enemy through," "and then quickly plug the hole again."

Mercenaries wept: what kind of tactics were these!

Creating a gap was easy, just withdrawing the mercenaries stationed at that position would suffice.

The problem, however, was once a gap appeared in the defense line, there was no guarantee that only one enemy would slip through.

Nor to mention that the gap would have to be quickly closed. It’s not like the enemy would just stand there foolishly, allowing you to promptly remedy the breach, right?

Had it been a smaller mercenary group, these mercenaries would never obey such a foolish command.

Yet this was Steel Cross, one of the few highly militarized mercenary groups on the continent. No matter how absurd the orders from above... as long as it wasn’t a blatantly suicidal command, subordinates had to follow them to the letter.

So the Transcendent Mercenaries nervously used all their abilities and managed to deliberately let a Snow Monster in, then fought desperately to seal the defense line again.

Finding itself suddenly behind enemy lines, the Snow Monster was perplexed for half a second, then thrilled. Correspondingly, the riflemen mercenaries were immediately thrown into disarray.

What the hell was going on with the frontline mercenaries! How could they let a Snow Monster slip into the rear! Did they actually expect us, the riflemen, to engage in close combat with it?

Andrea’s order to focus fire came immediately, and while the riflemen were terrified, they had to swiftly commence firing, trying to kill the Snow Monster as quickly as possible.

Pelted in the face by a barrage of bullets, the Snow Monster grew increasingly frenzied in its pain and began charging toward the riflemen’s line.

Commanded by Andrea, the prepared reserve squad of Transcendent Mercenaries intercepted the Snow Monster.

What followed was a perilous battle, nearly capsizing several times, but finally the Snow Monster was taken down by concentrated fire.

That’s not right, Andrea thought, feeling somewhat bewildered. While timing the command, he was also observing the situation over at The Azure Longsword.

The time it took for Steel Cross to focus fire and kill a Snow Monster, The Azure Longsword had taken down two!

What was going on? Given the same focus fire, why was The Azure Longsword’s efficiency still twice theirs?

Herman, who was watching nearby, was also confused, seemingly not anticipating that even after copying their tactics, their performance still fell short of the opponent’s. Could it be that the Steel Cross Mercenaries’ combat effectiveness was inferior to The Azure Longsword’s?

How was that possible! The Steel Cross Mercenary Corps were also one of the top-tier Large Mercenary Groups on the continent, weren’t they? With no shortage of Transcendent Mercenaries, how could they possibly...

Huh?

Herman instantly noticed something was amiss and called out to Andrea:

"Look over there!"

"I am looking!" Andrea replied irritably, "These young ladies’ combat moves are quite ruthless, I can see that clearly!"

"I’m not asking you to look at the beauties!" Herman said, barely able to suppress a laugh, "Look at that Snow Monster!"

"Snow Monster?" Andrea was stunned for a moment, then turned his gaze again, only to see two more Snow Monsters break through Eleanor and Sigrdrifa’s defense line and charge straight into the young ladies’ encirclement.

Then, one of the Snow Monsters suddenly extended its massive arms and tightly strangled the other.

Strangled...

Holy shit! Andrea’s complexion changed with shock. Was this Snow Monster an inside agent for The Azure Longsword?!

How was this possible!

You guys actually managed to plant a spy among the Snow Monsters?!

As the young ladies executed another round of skilled concentrated fire, harvesting the two Snow Monsters, Andrea was left staring in disbelief.

Damn it! They actually took out their own spy... The Azure Longsword, what the hell is this! Wait a second, could it be...

"Could it be the Witch who Seizes the Heart?" he exclaimed.
