Chapter 164 - 68 Magic Tide
Chapter 164: Chapter 68 Magic Tide
Solomon City, Bishop Observatory.
The Chief Astronomer of the Church Court, Gregor Mendel, was rapidly directing everyone, closely monitoring the data of the Moon.
"The Moon has entered an elliptical orbit close to Earth!" When the screen suddenly started alarming, Gregor immediately connected to the communication with the Holy See, "As the external magnetic field of the planet strengthens, the Moon’s magnetic field is disrupted, and its orbit is beginning to change!"
"Has the orbital model come out?" Pope Innocent asked.
"It has. The perigee this time... is closer than any recorded in history, and it is expected to be the largest Magic Tide ever."
"Keep a close watch on the Moon." Pope Innocent replied, "Most of the city’s electricity supply has already been cut off, but your project’s energy needs will be met as a priority until the Magic Tide begins to rise."
"Your Majesty, that... data backup, is it completed?"
"The Bishop of the Data Maintenance Center has reported to me that most of the data has already been carved through mechanical sequences, and the probe readers and writers have also been calibrated," Innocent said slowly. "You don’t have to worry about the historical data of the observatory being destroyed all at once."
"That’s a relief. I pulled an all-nighter last night printing and transcribing the important data." Bishop Gregor visibly relaxed, "May God bless humanity and our technological civilization."
"God bless." Innocent replied.
In Solomon City, the multi-colored lights had all gone out, and the tourists looked anxiously at the sky, as if they were realizing for the first time that Solomon City too could experience a power outage.
Within the Holy Solomon Empire, a directive from Emperor Otto was sent to the hands of the many Great Nobles and Lords.
The digitization level in Divine Luo was lower, so the impact of the Magic Tide was not as severe as in the Church Court. Some Nobles chose to believe the Emperor, digging up the underground cable tunnels to await replacement, while more chose to ignore it.
Well, whether it was true or false would be known in a few hours.
At the base of Olin Mountain, Crusader gunners were reloading their cannons, when suddenly an observer commented:
"Doesn’t the Moon look bigger than usual today?"
"Doesn’t seem so." The gunner said casually, his gaze fixed on the Moon, "Hmm, it does seem a bit bigger."
"Like a bosom." The observer said.
"Any bigger and it would look like a butt." The gunner carried on with the off-color joke, and the two poor men laughed heartily in tacit agreement.
At the top of the Eden Tree, a Mage Apprentice holding an open box approached the members of The Azure Longsword Mercenary Corps.
"Please throw all electronic devices into this." He said, "Electronic devices will combust during the rise of the Magic Tide."
Led by Aske, the girls reluctantly took out their cell phones and dropped them into the box.
"What about that watch?" The Mage Apprentice’s gaze fell on the fair wrist of Nora’s left hand.
"This is purely mechanical, spring-driven." Nora quickly replied.
"Oh." The Mage Apprentice nodded curiously, completely unaware of how much the watch was worth.
About half an hour later, the box filled with electronic devices was set down on an open space.
Several firefighters were standing by, fire extinguishers, and water cannons at the ready.
Once a fire broke out inside the box, it would mean that the Magic Tide had officially arrived.
Everyone watched the box as the seconds ticked by.
Yet no phenomenon occurred.
Nora’s spirituality suddenly perceived something, and she opened her spiritual vision.
She then saw four transparent spiritual bodies emerge from the air and slowly descend around the box.
They began to sing a mysterious, unknown melody, incomprehensible to humans, but for some reason, Nora could understand it.
The blood moon is about to set, the Magic Tide about to rise.
Clashing arms meet, the battle never-ending.
"That is the language of the Spirit Realm." Unbeknownst to her, Apilius had already positioned himself behind her, speaking solemnly, "A language that directly affects the Spiritual Body."
"Are you... the City Lord?" Driven by intuition shared amongst those of the same Sequence, Nora realized that the man before her was a high-rank practitioner of the "Spiritual Body" Sequence, to a degree she couldn’t fathom.
"See those Spiritual Bodies?" Apilius said, "Before the colonists of the First Epoch arrived, the Sirius Peninsula was once the kingdom of the High Elves, and this Eden Tree was their Holy Tree."
"Every time the Magic Tide is about to rise, their priests would climb to the top of the tree and pray in the language of the Spirit Realm for their tribe to survive in the chaotic world after the rise of the Magic Tide."
"That means..." Nora hastily looked towards the box containing the cellphone, only to see a roaring fire had ignited within it, with firefighters attacking it with high-pressure hoses and foam extinguishers.
"This time’s Magic Tide is going to be more vast and terrifying than any recorded in history..." Apilius sighed deeply, his gaze toward the clouds in the night sky.
"It’s coming."
————————
The rise of the Magic Tide is complete!
Aske suddenly felt a loosening of shackles upon his body.
At this moment, the Main Plane’s restriction on the Extraordinary Level limit has been elevated to Lv.10.
So, those Extraordinary Creatures of Lv.5-10 that had been suppressed by the Magic Tide and forced into slumber, should now be awakening and becoming active.
Aske looked towards the distant sky and saw what seemed like countless points of light under the cover of night.
"That is..."
"Thorn Birds!" Apilius immediately turned to give orders, "Open the Life Cage!"
The prepared mages from the union quickly activated the Array, including that of the Olin Tree. A giant semi-transparent spherical wall appeared in an instant, enveloping almost the entire Olin Mountain.
Everyone’s heart sank: although it was the City Lord’s orders, wasn’t the Life Cage one of the last trump cards, easily revealed right at the beginning?
Driven by a thirst for Extraordinary Power, the points of light split in two: half dove straight for the Crusader camp below, while the other slammed directly into the wall of the Life Cage.
Only then could everyone clearly see that each point of light was a bird bristling with needles. Their feathers were bright yellow, dense, and shaped like pine needles, emitting a keen sharpness just by looking at them.
"Thorn Birds, a source of Spiritual Material from the ’Revenge,’ ’Thunder’ Sequence," Apilius said indifferently, as if talking to himself, yet also as if educating the members of The Azure Longsword.
"Their attacks mainly consist of pecking and slashing with razor claws, accompanied by a bit of electricity that can cause paralysis if it conducts to the human body."
"And the ability of the Revenge Sequence is to inflict a percentage of received damage back onto the attacker through a karmic connection."
Getting hit causes retaliation damage, not getting hit causes paralysis? How are we supposed to fight?
These perplexing thoughts began to surface in the girls’ minds.
"Undead Illusion Sword," Aske said.
"Correct," Apilius showed an approving expression, "Undead Illusion Sword."
Outside the Life Cage, the Thorn Birds greedily eyed the many Extraordinary Beings inside but were unable to enter, and they started to furiously batter against the wall of the Cage.
With every collective assault, currents of electricity would dance across the wall of the Cage, many Thorn Birds even smashing their heads bloody, sliding straight down along the wall.
And such damage was also accumulating and conducted back to the attackers through the karmic connection.
Everyone felt the trunk of the Eden Tree beneath their feet begin to tremble, as if bearing an increasingly intense strain, gradually becoming unbearable.
"The Life Cage won’t hold much longer." Apilius placed his hand on Peggy’s shoulder, speaking dispassionately, "Activate the Undead Illusion Sword and create as many illusions as possible."
"Don’t worry about the energy consumption; I will provide all the Spirituality."
