Chapter 140: Chapter 44: Chain Explosions

"You have nowhere to go, Mage Assassin."

Medusa, having fled continuously, finally realized she had been completely surrounded.

The enemy seemed to have been in ambush nearby all along. And her last release of the azure flame stream had specifically revealed her presence.

By now, even as slow-witted as Medusa was, she finally understood that the villa was nothing but an absolute trap.

"Your men have surrounded me, yet you still dare not show your face?" Medusa said with a smile, looking at the surrounding Crusader Knights ready for battle.

"I dare not," Alfred’s voice emerged from a communicator carried by one of the Knights, "after all, you are a high-sequence Mage Assassin with flame ability. What if you shot a flame at me, and we both perished together?"

"So you send your subordinates to die instead?" Medusa countered.

"Divide and conquer will not help you," Alfred replied. "My position is not suited for a frontal assault, and these brave Crusader Knights are all draped in fire-resistant asbestos cloth, specially designed against you. I am curious, how effective will your flame ability be under these circumstances?"

"Asbestos cloth is not omnipotent," Medusa scoffed.

"But it is enough to deal with you, respected Mage Lady," Alfred inquired, "What do you say? How about we cooperate?"

"Cooperate?"

"If I’m not mistaken, you should have reached Lv.5 by now, with abilities ’Flame IV’ + ’Mind I’, correct?" Alfred spoke leisurely, "You surely understand what this implies, right? The treacherous path ahead, the presence of Flame IV, means a very high chance of losing control when consuming exotic species magic medicine in the future, and your path of advancement will become narrower and narrower."

"This is no surprise, of course. Olin City has trained you as if you were a suicidal fighter, obviously not considering your own future."

"But we are different, the newly established Kingdom of Thessalonica urgently needs the help of Transcendents. Even if you develop along the sequence of flame and mind, reaching only up to Lv.8, you would still receive quite a generous compensation here, enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life."

Medusa became increasingly suspicious as she listened. She knew that currently, the Magic Tide Level limit was only Lv.5; if one could reach Lv.5, that was already the peak. So why did his words imply regret that she couldn’t advance further to Lv.10?

Did this guy know that the Magic Tide was about to rise again, and that the level limit would be increased?

"So, what terms can you offer?" Medusa probed, "Don’t talk to me about money; I do not believe you could be richer than Olympia."

"Besides, you follow the Catholic Church of Solomon; how can I believe you wouldn’t arrest me and burn me as a heretic and witch?"

"Isn’t the evidence right here?" Alfred replied coldly, "You are now entirely surrounded, with no escape. We, who hold the absolute advantage, have not killed you immediately. Does that not prove our friendliness?"

"The Church Court has not yet sent a Bishop to Thessalonica; those in the Diocese responsible for spreading the faith are the priests that accompany our Crusaders, who will turn a blind eye to you."

"What we can offer you is a title, your fief will be in Serei City, on the fertile plains in the eastern part of the Struma River Valley, rich in resources, enough for you to establish a very lucrative manor."

"I’m somewhat tempted now," Medusa said coquettishly.

Somewhat tempted meant she was not yet convinced.

Pretending to think it over, Medusa continued to inquire:

"Besides titles and fiefs, don’t you have anything more valuable? Like Spiritual Material? Magic Potion Recipes? Extraordinary Items that can reduce the rate of losing control?"

"You’re joking, we are devout Crusader warriors, how could we collect those heretical and evil things? Even persuading the accompanying Priest to turn a blind eye to you took us considerable effort."

Alfred laughed and said, "Please think it over again. On one end of destiny’s balance is death, on the other, are titles and lands, what’s there to hesitate about?"

At that point, Alfred, sitting in the room, paused and asked the communication officer next to him, "Why is the noise in this communication so loud?"

"It’s not a communication quality issue; it’s the noise coming from their end," the communication officer picked up the contacting device, "Sir Stekar, your breathing is too loud, it’s affecting our communication quality."

"Sorry," the Power Armor Knight, wearing the communicator, said slightly gasping, "It’s too hot."

Too hot? Alfred was briefly startled, then suddenly stood up from his seat and roared:

"Fire! Kill her immediately!"

"It’s too late!" While the other knights were shocked, intensely hot flames had already erupted from around Medusa.

She laughed wildly amidst the flames, almost laughing out tears.

Tears appeared at the corner of her eyes and quickly evaporated into steam.

"Thought you wouldn’t fear flames with asbestos cloth!" Her laughter abruptly stopped, showing a fierce and maniac grin, "With high enough temperatures, I can burn the air clean too!"

A more intense light burst forth from her, and a majestic heat flow scattered in all directions.

The knights blocked their visual goggles with their left hand while blindly shooting forward with their right hand, moments later, a series of explosions from blown gun chambers began.

Because the gun barrels had melted, resulting in violent collisions with the projectiles.

Following that, accompanied by the sharply increasing brightness, yet higher temperatures of flame burst from around her.

The asbestos cloth exploded from the surface of the armor, the air trapped inside rapidly expanded from the heat, next to melt was the thermal insulation coating on the surface of the Power Armor.

Some knights tried to run, yet it felt like the ground was sticking to their feet—the weight of the Power Armor trapped them in the melting soil.

Then, the single-phase nuclear fusion batteries inside their armor began to fail under the harsh temperatures, causing chain explosions that briefly suppressed the central light source, layers of mushroom clouds rising one after another, forming a massive and bizarre dark cloud in the sky.

"Close your eyes, cover your ears, get down!" Under Mia’s guidance, The Azure Longsword Team, who had just entered the city, suddenly saw the dazzling light explosion ahead, Aske quickly warned.

The girls, without thinking, immediately lay down on the ground (from this we can see the effect of their usual training), then a huge blast came, shaking the ground intensely like an earthquake, causing chest pain to some of the girls.

Although they covered their ears, everyone was temporarily deaf in that instant, with a buzzing sound filling their heads.

In the blur, they heard Aske shout again, "Hold your breath!"

Then, the shockwave from the explosion, mixed with a whirlwind of trace radioactive dust, swept over them. They quickly closed their eyes, pinched their noses, and lay on the ground, feeling as if their foreheads were being endlessly battered by the wind, and tiny stones and sand pattering against their foreheads.
