Chapter 136: Chapter 40 Collective Promotion
After the Dream Competition ended, Aske got the contact information for the Assassin Organization, and The Azure Longsword Team also purchased a batch of Spiritual Material and ready-made Magic Potions from the Extraordinary Market.
The next step, of course, was the joyful process of leveling up.
Currently in the team, those who advanced to Lv.4 were Aske, Mia, and Medea.
The Thief girl Mia lucked out in finding the "Weakness I" Magic Potion needed for her next level at the Extraordinary Market, so the group immediately snapped it up with cash.
Medea also finally found the remaining materials for her "Conspiracy I."
Both of them had taken their Magic Potions half an hour ago, and Medea almost lost control again, but fortunately, she completed the advancement in the end.
At present, there are a total of 3 people at Lv.3, namely Eleanor, Peggy, and Thira.
Eleanor, as a bloodline of the War Crusader, profited greatly from a trade with the Night Watchman and still had the "Tenacity I" Magic Potion for the next level in her possession. She hadn’t consumed it yet because the "Will I" had not been completely assimilated in her body.
Peggy and Thira, the former had collected the Spiritual Material for "Plague I" at the Extraordinary Market, and the latter had directly bought the ready-made Magic Potion for "Meteor I" from the Arcane Sequence, thus both smoothly advanced to Lv.3.
Only 3 people remained at Lv.2: Sigrdrifa, following the recipe for "Ancient X," had purchased the corresponding materials at the Extraordinary Market and eventually advanced to Lv.2.
Because "Ancient X" was a very niche Sequence, the prices for the corresponding Spiritual Materials were very low, costing her less than 200 pounds in total.
Miel had already had the "Visual I" Magic Potion for her next level. Like Eleanor, she had just taken "Intuition I" and hence had to patiently wait for it to be digested.
The last one to drink the "Spirit Body I" Magic Potion was Nora, experiencing the clash of Sequences for the first time upon consuming a different Magic Potion.
It was a kind of extremely uncomfortable tearing sensation, as if her soul was about to leave her body.
Life I held her physical body in place, while the newly ingested Spirit Body I tried to tug her Spiritual Body out,
and not until dozens of minutes passed and Nora regained her senses from the intense dizziness did she notice her semi-transparent arm slowly solidifying back into flesh.
She had preliminarily digested "Spirit Body I" and successfully advanced to Lv.2.
On Fire Island, only Eleanor was beside her, while the other girls were all busying themselves with their own tasks.
Most were training, while a few were either resting or reviewing Tactics.
It was no longer like the beginning when they would gather around her, curious to watch her changes after taking the Magic Potion.
When did taking Magic Potions become such a common occurrence within the team?
Nora suddenly felt a strange sense of fulfillment, the type you get after a long journey when you suddenly look back and realize just how far you’ve come – a sense of achievement that wells up within you.
Aside from the finished Magic Potions, Sigrdrifa’s subsequent Arcane Sequence recipes for "Frost I" and "Thunder I," as well as Nora’s own "Mind I" recipe, had been bought in advance and put into the warehouse as a reserve.
One could imagine that soon, the team would steadily all level up to Lv.3.
After reaching Lv.3, everyone would have officially left the novice ranks and stepped into the Extraordinary Realm.
Nora stood up satisfied and patted the dust off the back of her skirt.
"How do you feel?" asked Eleanor.
"Uh, I’m much better now," Nora replied.
Her Spirituality unfurled in the air, the range being twice as wide as at Lv.1, and she quickly sensed the presence of Spiritual Bodies around.
The Spiritual Bodies on Fire Island were different from the normal human Spiritual Bodies.
They had humanoid shapes but with wings on their backs, drifting slowly in the air.
One of the Spiritual Bodies came close to Nora, seemingly curious about this being that could sense its presence.
After staring at her for a moment, the Spiritual Body’s lips parted slightly and started to sing a mysterious song.
It was a language Nora couldn’t understand, but it sounded exceptionally pleasant to the ear from its melody.
The surrounding Spiritual Bodies joined the chorus one by one, the invisible sound waves echoing in all directions, almost enveloping the entire Fire Island.
"Is something wrong?" Eleanor, though she couldn’t see the Spiritual Bodies, sensed something amiss with her Spirituality and promptly moved to shield Nora behind her.
The other girls also seemed to feel it and stopped their activities, gathering toward Aske’s direction.
In the center of the field, Aske, who was instructing Sigrdrifa on her footwork, also felt something unusual.
It was a feeling like being immersed in warm seawater.
"Angel’s Song?" Aske wondered, perplexed. "Why would that be here?"
Angels, native to Heaven Mountain, scattered in all directions after Heaven Mountain’s destruction.
In the world of the previous life’s game, players might encounter wandering Angels in certain high mountains – random, neutral NPCs that could come and go as they pleased, the elusive type.
They wouldn’t attack people on their own and lacked curiosity about humans, considered by most to be a rather lazy Extraordinary Creature.
However, if you sang beside them, they would usually respond with their song, granting the player an "Angel’s Song" buff, which reduced Spirituality consumption/the chance of losing control by 60% for 24 hours.
Wait a minute, this was Fire Island, one of the shards of Heaven Mountain. It was impossible for living Angels to be here, but if they were Spiritual Bodies...
Aske turned his head and saw Nora hurrying over.
"Angelic Spiritual Bodies should be harmless," Aske reassured Nora after hearing her account, "The Angel’s Song will soothe the Spirituality of creatures from the Main Plane, reducing the risk of losing control and sustaining damage. Only creatures from the Abyss, Netherworld, and Purgatory are damaged when they hear the Angel’s Song..."
Hmm, Purgatory?
"What about Medea?" Aske turned to ask.
"She seemed a bit uncomfortable just now," Sigrdrifa said. "I saw her Teleport away."
Aske immediately returned to reality and saw Mia running back and forth in the military camp room, practicing the Assassin’s Instant Step technique.
"Have you seen Medea?" Aske asked.
"She just left the room with a terrifying laugh, haha," Mia replied. "What’s happened? Is something wrong?"
"Her Sanity might have been damaged," said Aske succinctly. "We need to find her."
The two quickly rushed out of the room and bumped into Rudashus, the leader of the Spartans.
"Bring your men with you and come with me!" Rudashus said urgently. "The advance forces of the Latin Crusaders have already taken Olympia Town at the foot of the mountain and are now converting it into a siege camp!"
"Before they finish preparations and start the siege up the mountain, we must strike first and destroy the camp to slow down their siege progress!"
Mia was about to speak when Aske beat her to it:
"Perfect, we were planning on striking first ourselves."
"We heard the Latin Crusaders were at the foot of the mountain, and one of our companions has already dashed down the mountain ahead of us, planning to attack the Crusaders’ camp single-handedly."
"Uh," Rudashus thought, I just received the news, and one of your people already rushed down the mountain? And alone, no less?
"Your companion, does she have a grudge against the Latin Crusaders?" he asked, puzzled.
"Yes, her whole family died at the hands of the Crusaders, so she couldn’t suppress the hatred in her heart upon hearing the news and dashed out before we could react," Aske said earnestly. "She’s too dangerous on her own; we must join her."
Mia looked at him with admiration on the side; his ability to come up with lies on the spot was impressive!
Rudashus oh’ed and asked, "What does your companion look like?"
"Burgundy hair, very beautiful, with a gloomy complexion and a terrifying smile," Aske described. "She’s a Mind Mage and Arcane Mage in our team, skilled in manipulating Flames and the Mind."
Rudashus understood what he meant and pondered, "Well, Flame Ability is indeed a lethal weapon on the battlefield, but she should still be under the protection of her companions; otherwise, being alone is too dangerous."
"I’ll ask the City Guard if they’ve seen your companion," he said, pulling out his phone and dialing a number.
While Rudashus was on the phone, Mia quietly slipped back into the room and called everyone out from Fire Island.
As the girls left the room, they saw Rudashus and Aske discussing:
"The patrolling City Guard said they saw a red-haired girl heading toward the city gates. She’s very pretty and seems gloomy, probably the companion you mentioned."
"Alright. We’ll go find her first and then join the force descending the mountain," Aske said.
"Hmm," Rudashus, with the typical Spartan bravo mindset, didn’t doubt Aske’s words at all (since strong people weren’t supposed to lie) and nodded, "Then I’ll take my men into the battlefield first."
"We’ll follow shortly," Aske said.
After parting with Rudashus, The Azure Longsword Team hurried toward the city exit.
A few minutes later, Hood ran in, pushing a turret cart, excitedly shouting:
"Nora, look! I’ve added some wheels to the bottom of the turret; now it’s easy to push forward!"
"Eh, where is everyone?" He charged in, gazing at the empty room, his expression somewhat confused.
————————
Elsewhere, the lady suffering from ’snake spirit disease’, manipulating Medea’s body, also emerged from the tunnel she had come through.
"So annoying," she murmured to herself while twirling a Fireball in her hand, looking up at the sky with a somewhat depressed expression.
"First, I get blasted out by the Angel’s Song, and then when I want to burn some people for fun, you refuse..." she continued, "Do you really care about him that much?"
"Alright, alright, I’m not talking about the kind of liking between a man and a woman; I know you’re just worried about not being able to beat him," the lady tossed a burst of Flames, which crackled as it set a nearby bush on fire.
"But why should you be subservient to him? With my power and your brains, couldn’t we thrive anywhere else if we left places like Seljuk?"
"Benefits? Don’t be naive; he might bring more benefits, but when shared among eight girls, how much would you get? Wouldn’t it be better if I killed everyone else so you could monopolize him?"
"So what are you really worried about, Medea?"
The lady with ’snake spirit disease’ pointed her finger towards the trees, revealing a sinister, enchanting smile, and said softly, "Come out; I already know you’re there."
The Crusader Scout hiding behind the tree was startled and immediately burst out of hiding.
A Fireball followed him from behind, igniting him into a flame-covered man.
He screamed sharply in the flames, his skin and outer cloth armor nearly fused together, the intense pain nearly piercing his heart.
"Yes, yes!" the lady kept adding Flames to his body, her face breaking into an intoxicated smile, "That’s the kind of scream I love!!!"
"Let me savor it a bit longer..."
