Chapter 941: Chapter 942: Testing One’s Skills
Infusing True Qi into the tails of the three silver needles took a full three to four minutes.
"Professor Wu, the stretcher has arrived. Let’s take the patient to the emergency room immediately." Two students ran over, panting.
Wu Xianyuan quickly said, "Alright! You there, pull out the needles right now. This approach isn’t effective. If you keep delaying, the patient will miss the best window for emergency treatment."
Song Xiaodong extended his arm to stop them and said, "Almost done."
Wu Xianyuan became agitated and said, "What are you doing? Letting you treat the patient was supposed to save face for your Traditional Chinese Medicine College! If you keep wasting time, this could turn deadly!"
"Just one more minute. Waiting one more minute won’t affect the patient’s rescue timing." Song Xiaodong replied calmly.
Wu Xianyuan snapped, "You... If anything goes wrong, you’ll bear the responsibility!"
"Fine, I take full responsibility!" Song Xiaodong answered decisively.
Wu Xianyuan gritted his teeth and said, "Fine, I’ll give you one minute."
Under normal circumstances, a minute feels fleeting, but for the patient, every second was critical, making this minute feel unbearably long for everyone.
"Remove the needles!" Song Xiaodong instructed calmly.
Lu Yaobing immediately pulled out the three silver needles, but her heart was filled with uncertainty, and her eyes remained fixed on the patient.
"This is ridiculous. Can this really work?" Wu Xianyuan looked at the motionless patient with closed eyes and sneered before immediately calling his students to lift the patient onto the stretcher and rush toward the affiliated hospital’s emergency room.
"Hmph!" Professor Wang Qing looked at Song Xiaodong with a stern face and said, "You’re far too indulgent with your students."
Song Xiaodong smiled faintly and chose not to respond.
At that moment, Lu Yaobing wobbled slightly and nearly fell. The True Qi within her had been almost entirely depleted by the three needles, leaving her feeling drained and fatigued.
Song Xiaodong reached out to support her waist, letting her lean against his shoulder, while his other hand grasped hers, channeling a flow of True Qi into her.
"Hey, Professor Song, what are you doing?" Professor Wang Qing immediately roared furiously. A dignified professor acting so intimately with a female student? He couldn’t stand it.
Meanwhile, the acupuncture class students all stared wide-eyed. Letting Lu Yaobing perform acupuncture on a patient with a heart attack was daring enough, but now seeing him holding her so openly shocked them even more. Was this a blatant teacher-student romance?
Song Xiaodong didn’t release Lu Yaobing but continued channeling True Qi into her. Lu Yaobing gradually recovered, quickly standing up straight. However, she staggered slightly before blushing and saying, "Don’t misunderstand. I felt a bit dizzy just now, and Professor Song was only helping me."
Seeing Lu Yaobing’s unsteady posture, the crowd finally began to understand. Wang Xiaoling hurried over to support her and asked, "Xiao Bing, are you alright?"
Lu Yaobing smiled and said, "I’m okay; I feel much better now. I was just overly exhausted earlier."
Professor Wang Qing fixed his gaze on Lu Yaobing and asked, "You’re saying you exhausted yourself treating the patient with acupuncture?"
"Yes!" Lu Yaobing nodded slightly.
Professor Wang Qing’s expression shifted to something peculiar. He furrowed his brows and scrutinized Lu Yaobing, causing her to feel uneasy under his gaze.
Song Xiaodong smiled faintly and said, "Professor Wang, perhaps we should continue this discussion elsewhere?"
Professor Wang Qing nodded and was about to lead the Traditional Chinese Medicine College students away when a commotion erupted from the emergency room group, causing them to return.
"Why have you brought the patient back?" Professor Wang Qing frowned and asked.
"Well... It seems we don’t need to take him to the emergency room." Wu Xianyuan responded with a peculiar look.
"Don’t need the emergency room?" Professor Wang Qing’s interest piqued, and he quickly approached the stretcher, where the previously unconscious patient was now wide-eyed. "Let me take a look," he said, already reaching to check the patient’s pulse.
"Am I... am I alright now?" the patient asked cautiously.
The teachers and students around suddenly erupted into chatter. For those studying medicine, they were acutely aware of the dire nature of a heart attack — patients in this condition couldn’t speak at all. This clearly indicated that the heart attack was no longer an issue.
"You... you’re fine now." Professor Wang Qing let go of the patient’s wrist, his voice dry.
Wu Xianyuan forced a grin and said, "It seems alright, but I’d recommend a thorough check-up for a proper diagnosis."
Song Xiaodong smiled faintly and said, "You’re fine now. However, if you’re still worried, getting a check-up isn’t a bad idea."
"Dad!" A man in his thirties rushed over.
"I’m fine. I’m fine now," the older man reassured him before adding, "Thank goodness this happened right at the hospital entrance, where I could get immediate treatment. Otherwise, I don’t know if I would have made it."
"Thank you! Thank you!" The younger man thanked Professor Wang Qing and Wu Xianyuan profusely.
Both quickly stepped aside and said, "We weren’t the ones who treated him."
"Then who? I must thank the doctor personally!" The man looked around keenly.
Everyone’s gaze focused on Lu Yaobing. Wu Xianyuan coughed lightly and said, "It was this student from the Traditional Chinese Medicine College who healed your father’s heart attack with acupuncture."
"What! A young girl like her!" The man hesitated in surprise before quickly approaching Lu Yaobing, bowing, and saying, "Thank you, doctor, for saving my father."
"No need to thank me; this is just what I should do," Lu Yaobing replied, her face red — not from embarrassment, but from excitement. For a medical student, earning a patient’s recognition was the highest honor.
Song Xiaodong gestured dismissively and said, "Alright, hurry up and escort your father. You can go for a check-up if you like. We have more patients here for the free clinic."
After profusely expressing gratitude again, the man led his father to the hospital to continue with tests. Given the gravity of the situation, as a son, he couldn’t rest easy until further confirmation.
"Master, you’re incredible!" Lu Yaobing whispered to Song Xiaodong.
Song Xiaodong smiled faintly and said, "This is just the tip of the iceberg."
"Hmm! I will work harder!" Lu Yaobing clenched her fists, now filled with profound confidence in the acupuncture she was learning.
As Song Xiaodong and his group returned to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital’s consultation area, several patients from the Western Medicine corner came over and sat in front of their free clinic table.
Professor Wang Qing froze for a moment, then quickly said, "Why are you still standing there? Start diagnosing the patients!" He couldn’t help but glance at Song Xiaodong and Lu Yaobing, the expression in his eyes tinged with excitement.
