Chapter 900 - 901: A Small Gift

Chapter 900: Chapter 901: A Small Gift

Ji Huan said again, "Thank you, Xiao Ling. Oh, by the way, my grandfather mentioned that, as a token of our Ji Family’s apology, we would like to give you two a small gift. We hope you’ll accept it."

"A small gift? That’s not necessary..." Zhong Chuling was just about to decline when Lin Shu had already snatched the phone. The old man did say this was a great chance to cash in, so why would she hold back?

She replied bluntly, "Hey, Ji Huan, what kind of ’small gift’ are we talking about here?"

Ji Huan hurriedly said, "It’s two Maserati sports cars."

"What?" Lin Shu exclaimed out loud in shock.

"Ah... it’s the latest model, top-tier configuration, about five million each. If you’re not satisfied, I can have my grandfather arrange something else immediately."

"Five... five million?" Lin Shu screamed internally. She initially wanted to act modest, but the words just wouldn’t come out. Instead, she said, "Alright, since you’re so sincere, we’ll talk to the old man tomorrow and won’t hold it against you."

"Thank you! Thank you! Xiao Shu, from now on, I’ll absolutely treat you as the big boss at school."

"Whatever, we’ll talk later. I’m tired; we’ll chat next time." After finishing, Lin Shu quickly hung up the phone, worried that if she didn’t, she’d start yelling excitedly at Ji Huan.

Zhong Chuling hadn’t heard what Ji Huan said and commented, "Xiao Shu, let’s just let this go. She’s quite pitiable too."

"Let it go? What let it go? Didn’t the old man say this is an opportunity to make bank? Otherwise, wouldn’t we be letting them trample all over us for nothing?"

"You..." Zhong Chuling shook her head but didn’t argue further. Ji Huan’s actions, after all, meant there had to be some cost to pay.

"Do you know what she’s compensating us with?" Lin Shu blinked as she asked.

"What? Money?" Zhong Chuling asked curiously.

"Ha..." Lin Shu couldn’t hold it in anymore and shouted excitedly, "She said she’d give each of us a Maserati! A Maserati worth over five million!"

"What?" Zhong Chuling froze in astonishment!

"Maserati sports cars, over five million each! Overnight, I’ve become a millionaire, haha..." Lin Shu rolled around on the bed in excitement.

"Oh my god, that’s so extravagant! How could we possibly accept that?"

"Why not? They’re voluntarily offering them."

"But... that’s way too much. What if this affects the old man’s relationship with them? We can’t just think about the perks and end up messing up the old man’s business."

"Oh... that’s true..." Lin Shu instantly calmed down. "Then let’s ask the old man," she said, pulling out her phone to call Song Xiaodong.

"Uncle, Ji Huan just called to say she’d give us two Maseratis..." After saying this, Lin Shu felt incredibly nervous, afraid that Song Xiaodong would disapprove.

"Oh, two sports cars? While they aren’t worth much, it’s a sincere gesture from the Ji Family. That’ll do."

Lin Shu’s breathing quickened, and she asked, "So, you mean... we should accept them?"

"Yeah, accept them. And if you’re not satisfied, you can ask for more."

"No, no, that’s plenty!"

"Haha, you two little scaredy-cats. Alright then, go ahead and let them know I won’t pursue this matter any further. Also, tell them not to try to win me over with tactics like this anymore."

"Got it, got it."

After hanging up, Lin Shu didn’t immediately scream with joy but instead pouted and said, "Uncle is just too damned cool, too damned cool."

"What do you mean by ’cool’?" Zhong Chuling asked, confused.

"Didn’t you hear? Uncle said not to let them try this kind of tactic to win him over again. To win him over! Ji Huan’s family seems so powerful already, but just Uncle’s attitude makes them pull out ten million to buy us cars. How cool is that?"

Zhong Chuling nodded vigorously and said, "Yes, yes, Uncle really is incredible."

"Heh heh, it’s a good thing we got to know Uncle earlier. If it were now, Uncle probably wouldn’t even look at us twice."

Lin Shu wasn’t wrong with that statement. At this point, Song Xiaodong genuinely wouldn’t have had any further connection with the two of them if they’d only met now.

The two were so excited they couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning until the middle of the night before finally passing out from exhaustion. By the time they woke up the next day, it was already past nine in the morning.

When they went downstairs, a servant informed them, "The Family Head said that when the two young ladies wake up, they should head directly to the main villa."

"Oh, okay." The two stuck out their tongues. Staying at someone else’s place and sleeping so late was obviously quite rude.

They hurriedly freshened up, changed clothes, and followed the servant to the main villa. On the way, the two finally took in the scenery properly, marveling silently. This wasn’t a house; it was a full-blown park.

When they arrived at the main villa, Song Xiaodong was seated outside. Opposite him was Old Master Ji. The other members of the Ji Family could only stand behind the old man—they didn’t even have the qualifications to sit here.

"Did you sleep well last night?" Song Xiaodong asked with a smile.

"Very well!" Zhong Chuling and Lin Shu replied obediently. Even Lin Shu, who was normally brash, was uncharacteristically meek in this setting.

Song Xiaodong added, "Come, have a seat."

The two quickly sat down on either side of Song Xiaodong.

The Ji Family members could only continue to stand, the difference in status being clearly on display.

Old Master Ji respectfully said, "To the two young ladies, we are here specifically to apologize. I know you lack nothing, so all we can do is offer you a small token in hopes of making you happy."

With that, Old Master Ji handed over two car keys to Lin Shu and Zhong Chuling.

The two looked to Song Xiaodong, who smiled faintly and said, "Take them, so the old man doesn’t overthink things."

Only then did Lin Shu and Zhong Chuling finally accept the car keys.

Old Master Ji felt a sense of relief and said, "We hope you’ll forgive Xiao Huan. She was pressured by our family and had no choice. It wasn’t her intention." If leveraging a schoolmate relationship could lead to a path through the wives, then it seemed like a viable strategy for the Ji Family. For now, they just wanted to strengthen their relationship with Zhong Chuling and Lin Shu.

Zhong Chuling immediately replied, "It’s alright, we don’t blame her."

Ji Huan quickly added, "Thank you both." Her face showed gratitude, but deep down, her heart was bleeding. Oh, how she loved those sports cars! Yet she didn’t even own one herself. How wonderful it would be if she could keep just one!

Besides, she couldn’t help feeling indignant. These two? Just because they found a great man, they were suddenly above her? What made them so special?

Sometimes, jealousy and discontent could very well push someone down a path of no return.
