Chapter 503: Chapter 504: Two Groundhogs
"You are? Zheng Qiu Hua!" Lin Su’er also took a careful look at the woman and then immediately exclaimed with joy.
"It’s me, you actually remember me." The girl immediately shouted excitedly.
Lin Su’er was also happy and said, "Of course, I remember, we’re from the same village, aren’t we? Even though we haven’t seen each other for a few years, how could I forget."
Running into an acquaintance outside, and one not seen for several years at that, naturally they were both very excited.
It just so happened that there was an empty seat next to Lin Su’er, and Zheng Qiu Hua came over to sit beside Lin Su’er and said, "Su’er, it’s been years since we’ve seen each other, you’ve really become more and more beautiful."
Lin Su’er blushed and said, "You’re not bad yourself, if you hadn’t recognized me first, I really wouldn’t have dared to recognize you, you’ve also become a lot prettier."
Although Zheng Qiu Hua wasn’t as beautiful as Lin Su’er, she was still decent-looking, and with makeup, she indeed qualified as a beauty.
"Who’s this, aren’t you going to introduce us?" Zheng Qiu Hua asked with a smile.
"This is..." Lin Su’er was a bit unsure how to introduce him.
Song Xiaodong, however, smiled slightly and extended his hand, saying, "Hello, I’m Su’er’s boyfriend, Song Xiaodong."
Zheng Qiu Hua shook hands with Song Xiaodong and said with a laugh, "Su’er has a boyfriend now, come, let me introduce you to mine, this is my boyfriend Li Shunshi, and this is his university classmate Chu Weiye."
Song Xiaodong and Lin Su’er both nodded at the two men.
Zheng Qiu Hua’s boyfriend was quite polite, but Chu Weiye seemed a bit arrogant, his gaze lingering more on Lin Su’er with an unfettered boldness.
"What does your boyfriend do?" Zheng Qiu Hua, a girl who loved to talk, asked after the introductions.
"I’m a doctor," Song Xiaodong volunteered to answer.
"A doctor, that’s a pretty good profession. These days, doctors are treated very well, you’ve really found yourself a great boyfriend, Su’er."
At that moment, Chu Weiye interjected with a tone clearly full of arrogance, "Such a young doctor, I’m afraid he must have just started working at the hospital, right?"
Song Xiaodong wasn’t particularly fond of people who thought too highly of themselves and responded indifferently, "Yes."
Chu Weiye continued, "Since you’re Qiu Hua’s friend, if you ever want to move up in the hospital, you can come to me."
Lin Su’er and Song Xiaodong both felt somewhat amused and exasperated; how could this guy be so arrogant when he spoke?
Just then, Zheng Qiu Hua quickly butted in, "You two should really thank Chu Weiye, let me tell you, Chu Weiye is no ordinary person. His father is a provincial leader, and both Shunshi’s and my jobs were secured with his help. Do you know where I work now?"
"Where did you go to work?" Lin Su’er asked curiously.
Zheng Qiu Hua said with some pride, "I’ve been placed in the Local Tax Bureau, and Shunshi in the State Tax Bureau. You should know how difficult it is to get into these two departments now—they are directly managed by the province, the city doesn’t even have the authority to make placements. It’s all thanks to Chu Weiye’s help that we were able to get into these departments."
Lin Su’er couldn’t help but express her amazement, "That’s truly not easy, I’ve heard both departments are really good, with high salaries and bonuses. I really didn’t expect that you two could get into departments like that; your future together is definitely looking great."
Zheng Qiu Hua giggled and said, "That’s right, Shunshi really made a great friend."
Chu Weiye then spoke rather pretentiously, "It was just a small thing, Qiu Hua, there’s no need to keep mentioning it." His gaze went towards Lin Su’er again, "My dad is just a leader in the provincial personnel department, how could doing a little work be a problem?"
For most people, especially young people, getting to know someone with such status would be quite exciting as it could be very helpful for their futures.
Unfortunately, Song Xiaodong and Lin Su’er had absolutely no interest in such matters. Besides, with Song Xiaodong’s ability, anything he wanted to do himself would be much easier than seeking help from Chu Weiye.
So at that moment, both of them remained quite indifferent, just giving polite smiles and saying nothing.
Seeing the attitude of Song Xiaodong and Lin Su’er, Chu Weiye felt rather put out and asked, "Where are you two going here?"
Song Xiaodong said, "We’re going to the Provincial City to take care of some business."
Chu Weiye immediately said, "Going to the provincial city? Well, that’s great, that’s my turf. Whatever you need to do, I can help you with. I know a lot of people, it will definitely be much easier than if you do it on your own."
Song Xiaodong gave a slight smile and said, "Thanks for your kind offer, but we can handle it ourselves."
Chu Weiye frowned slightly and said with some displeasure, "It seems like you really don’t have me in high regard."
Zheng Qiu Hua quickly nudged Lin Su’er and said, "Su’er, Chu Weiye’s family has a lot of pull. His dad has made connections with all sorts of officials in the province through his work, and he could help you too, even if you’re not here for work-related matters."
Lin Su’er smiled and said, "We really don’t need any help, we’re just here to take care of some minor matters and to have a bit of fun on the side."
"Forget it, Qiu Hua, if they don’t appreciate us, why bother with them," Chu Weiye said, turning his face away. People like him enjoyed compliments and being looked up to, and the attitude of Song Xiaodong and Lin Su’er clearly made him very unsatisfied.
At that moment, ticket checking began, and everyone got up, providing Song Xiaodong and Lin Su’er with a convenient excuse to break off the conversation.
"Which carriage are you guys in?" Zheng Qiu Hua asked Lin Su’er after they had their tickets checked.
Lin Su’er looked at her ticket and replied, "We’re in carriage six."
Zheng Qiu Hua said, "Then we can’t sit together and chat, we are in the business class."
"No worries, we’ll be there soon," Lin Su’er smiled. Being able to come out with Song Xiaodong was the most important thing; as far as which seats they were in, that really didn’t matter to her at all.
After everyone had split up, Chu Weiye said to Zheng Qiu Hua, "Qiu Hua, your classmate comes from an average family, right?"
"Her family’s situation isn’t very good, she has no mother, and her dad is a pretty bad person," Zheng Qiu Hua whispered briefly.
"No wonder then, just two country bumpkins who’ve never seen the world," Chu Weiye shook his head, full of disdain.
He wasn’t quiet, and though Song Xiaodong had walked a few steps away, he still heard him and couldn’t help but shake his head. Chu Weiye wasn’t necessarily bad, but his self-satisfaction and disdain for others certainly didn’t make him likeable.
