Chapter 435: Chapter 436: Guilty Conscience
"Sister Xiaoru!" Xiao Yingying saw Song Xiaodong being disciplined, and hurriedly wanted to go and persuade.
Instead, Miao Qingqing said, "Don’t interfere."
"What?" Xiao Yingying grimaced, but obediently stopped in her tracks, watching helplessly as Song Xiaodong’s ear was twisted by Song Xiaoru as they went upstairs.
"Sister Qingqing, why is Sister Xiaoru so angry?" Xiao Yingying asked with a puzzled face.
Miao Xuanxuan took over, "Isn’t that obvious? It’s one thing for you to fool around usually, but your dad coming over directly and bringing up this matter, catching Sister Xiaoru completely off guard... For such a significant life event, Dongzi didn’t even discuss it with Sister Xiaoru, of course she’s going to be angry."
Xiao Yingying nodded and said, "Oh, that’s true. My dad’s approach was too sudden, I wasn’t prepared either. I thought he would disapprove of this matter."
Miao Xuanxuan curled her lip and said, "Your dad is really something though, a big boss worth over a billion willing to let his daughter be someone else’s second wife, I have to say I’m impressed no matter what."
Miao Qingqing, however, gently shook her head and said, "Yingying’s father is indeed a character, it’s like cutting off one’s limb to save the body, and not just anyone can do such a thing. He’s considering Yingying’s health and future—better to live a lifetime than just a few months or years."
Miao Xuanxuan snorted, "I wouldn’t want that. If there’s such a brilliant life, even if I could only live it for ten days, dying would be worth it?"
Miao Qingqing said, "Really? That’s just an ideal. When you truly face it, you won’t think like that."
"This..." Miao Xuanxuan wanted to argue, but then she suddenly thought of Song Xiaodong. She loved Song Xiaodong so much, yet she gave up her feelings because of Miao Qingqing, which was completely contrary to what she had just said.
.........
"Well done, lad, you’ve even convinced someone like President Xiao to simply hand over his daughter to you on a silver platter."
Song Xiaodong sat on the bed, while Song Xiaoru stood in front of him with folded arms, looking down at him imperiously.
"Sis, don’t be angry!" Song Xiaodong reached out to wrap his arm around Song Xiaoru’s waist, trying to please her, "I was as surprised as you when Yingying’s father decided to do this. I really didn’t prompt him to come."
Song Xiaoru twisted her waist, but did not pull away, and tapped his head, saying, "I’m not angry about that. I’m angry about your decision. Today Qingqing was forced to agree, but is that really what she wants? How will you face her later?"
Song Xiaodong said, "I know, but you don’t need to worry, sis. Qingqing and I just talked about this the other day. She deeply sympathizes with Yingying and has implicitly agreed to Yingying staying here, so there shouldn’t be a big problem."
"Qingqing actually agreed?" Song Xiaoru’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"Of course, I wouldn’t dare to lie to you about this. Do I want our house to be in uproar every day? I’d rather just live with you, sis. The two of us surely won’t quarrel."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Song Xiaoru’s heart suddenly weakened, and her tone could no longer be firm.
Song Xiaodong had only said it in passing, but this emotional shift in Song Xiaoru immediately caught his attention. He wouldn’t have cared in the past, but since finding out he and Song Xiaoru were not biologically related, such a change became somewhat profound.
Gently resting his head on Song Xiaoru’s lower abdomen, Song Xiaodong said softly, "Sis, be assured, no matter what happens, I will always be there for you, to take good care of you for the rest of my life."
"Humph, do I need you to take care of me? I’m going to get married in the future, and naturally, I’ll have my man to take care of me. You’d better just look after your girlfriend and your little mistress," Song Xiaoru said, knocking on Song Xiaodong’s head again.
"But they can’t replace the place you have in my heart, Sister. There’s no one in this world who could ever take your place."
Song Xiaoru pushed Song Xiaodong away, saying, "What nonsense are you talking about now? Let me go, Yingying and Qingqing probably have a stomach full of words for you by now."
Then she turned and entered the bathroom.
Song Xiaodong walked up to the bathroom door and peeked inside, where Song Xiaoru was tidying up. "What are you looking at? Following me to the bathroom," she said.
"You’re my sister, what’s there to be afraid of?"
"No looking, get out of here quickly."
Song Xiaodong chuckled and then slipped away.
Song Xiaoru shook her head gently. Was she really angry just now for that reason? Honestly, she didn’t even know herself. It seemed like she just inexplicably felt the urge to take her anger out on Song Xiaodong.
Seeing how quickly Song Xiaodong had come downstairs, Xiao Yingying immediately stepped forward, asking anxiously, "Sister Xiaoru didn’t do anything to you, did she?"
Song Xiaodong smiled and said, "It’s nothing. She’s my sister. Even if I did something wrong, she wouldn’t do the same to me." But his glance at Miao Qingqing made him feel guilty.
Miao Qingqing gave Song Xiaodong a cool look and said, "Shouldn’t someone be feeling on top of the world at this moment? Why do you seem so guilty?"
Miao Xuanxuan pursed his lips and said, "Yeah, in the future you’ll be living the life, with one in each arm. Truly a big winner in life."
Song Xiaodong forced a laugh, about to speak, when Xiao Yingying already rushed into the conversation, "Sister Qingqing, I know you’ll certainly blame Brother Dongzi for this, but the main problem lies with me. If you want to scold someone, scold me, okay? Don’t be hard on Brother Dongzi. If you two get upset with each other, I’ll be sad too."
Miao Qingqing said, somewhat helplessly, "Yingying, I know you care about him, but this guy is just not the honest type. If we keep spoiling him like this, his tail will stick up into the sky. So we should work together, right?"
Xiao Yingying blinked and then immediately stood next to Miao Qingqing, hands on her hips, saying, "Brother Dongzi, did you hear that? Qingqing is calling you out. Are you going to take that?"
"Pfft!" Song Xiaodong, Miao Qingqing, and Miao Xuanxuan were taken aback for a second, then couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
"What’s so funny?" Xiao Yingying blinked her large eyes, a look of confusion on her face, saying, "I’m on the same side as Sister Qingqing now."
Miao Xuanxuan pulled Xiao Yingying’s hand, saying, "Stop trying to act tough. Even when you pretend to be fierce, it’s like you’re just coquettishly arguing with Brother Dongzi. Plus, you switch faces too fast. We really can’t keep up."
"Oh... I see." Xiao Yingying stuck out her tongue, saying, "I’m really not good at being fierce."
Miao Qingqing shook her head and said, "Alright then, let’s not try to force anything. Just be as we were before, and let’s continue that way."
