Chapter 420: Chapter 421 An Understanding Without Words
"Ha... Qingqing, how did you end up coming over to my sister’s place?"
Before Song Xiaoru finished speaking, Song Xiaodong had already pushed the door open and barged in.
"That was a quick shower," Miao Qingqing casually remarked.
"Yeah, I’m a man, a quick rinse is all it takes, unlike you women who make such a fuss." Song Xiaodong sat down on the bed, smiling as he said, "Sis, what were you two talking about? Don’t tell me you were speaking ill of me? Did Qingqing snitch on me again?"
Song Xiaoru looked at Song Xiaodong and said, "Qingqing mentioned that you were in the study missing Mom and Dad, weren’t you?"
Song Xiaodong suddenly leaned in close, whispering into Song Xiaoru’s ear, "That was just me pretending to be deep to add a bit of masculine charm."
"Stop messing around. Just spend more time with Qingqing, and try not to always be running off, and forget about masculine charm." Song Xiaoru pushed Song Xiaodong away with her elbow.
Song Xiaodong said with a mischievous grin, "That’s because going out makes me feel guilty."
Miao Qingqing immediately glared at him and said, "She’s the precious daughter of a deputy mayor. How could you not go when she asks you to?"
Song Xiaodong quickly responded, "I’m a married man now. I treat Shen Yue as nothing more than a little sister."
With Song Xiaodong’s interruption, the mood Song Xiaoru was in disappeared, and she said, "Alright then, stop causing a commotion here. I’m really sleepy today. You two better head back."
Song Xiaodong gave Song Xiaoru a peck on the cheek, then hopped onto the bed, saying, "Wife, let’s go back to rest."
Miao Qingqing spat at Song Xiaodong playfully but still followed him back to their room.
As they lay in bed, Miao Qingqing said, "Sister Xiaoru seemed like she was about to talk about something important just now, but then you came in, and she stopped. What was it about? She also mentioned that you probably know all about it too. It feels like there’s more to what she was saying."
Song Xiaodong cracked a smile and replied, "What could it be? We were just chatting. Come on, wife, we haven’t ’papa’ in a couple of days."
"Ah! You bad man, don’t, I’m so tired today."
"Just once, I promise it’ll be just once."
"You bad man... Ah! Don’t tug, can’t I take it off myself?"
After some affectionate moments, Miao Qingqing soon fell asleep, but Song Xiaodong quietly slipped out of the bedroom and made his way back to the study. Standing by the window, he lit a cigarette, his face flickering in the light of the ember.
Earlier, he had intentionally interrupted Song Xiaoru. He truly didn’t know how they would continue to relate to each other if Song Xiaoru revealed what she intended to.
In his heart, Song Xiaoru had always been his dear sister from childhood, and to suddenly discover she wasn’t related by blood was something he found very hard to accept.
That’s why he didn’t want Song Xiaoru to disclose that matter; he was even avoiding the issue now. If it weren’t for his curiosity leading him to take a picture of the round token, if he hadn’t met with Feng Kexin, then he might never have considered the possibility that he was adopted.
But now that he had thought about it, he could no longer avoid it. He even had this vague feeling that his origins might be out of the ordinary, and that he and Feng Kexin might be pawns in someone else’s game.
This was indeed a thought that filled Song Xiaodong with extreme dread.
That night, Song Xiaoru also didn’t sleep well; she sensed that Song Xiaodong might already know and also felt that at the time, Song Xiaodong simply didn’t want her to reveal it.
The two had grown up together, and they knew each other extremely well; a look or a gesture was often enough to know what the other was thinking.
As for the adoption of Song Xiaodong, not only did she know about it, but so did uncles and aunts, and it was even possible that people around the uncles and aunts knew as well. It was possible Song Xiaodong could have overheard something unintentionally.
"Sigh, Dongzi," Song Xiaoru sighed softly, feeling that the pressure in her heart suddenly became much heavier, and now she really had no idea what Song Xiaodong would do next.
It was still the holiday, so everyone got up rather late. As Song Xiaoru came out of her bedroom, she happened to see Song Xiaodong.
"Sis, good morning!" Song Xiaodong approached and kissed Song Xiaoru on the face, still smiling as cheerfully as always.
"Early in the morning, did you even brush your teeth?" Song Xiaoru gave Song Xiaodong a sideways glance.
With his arm around Song Xiaoru’s shoulder, they walked downstairs together. "I did, otherwise how could I dare to kiss sis?" he said.
Song Xiaoru didn’t feel anything out of the ordinary from Song Xiaodong. After exchanging a few words, they descended the stairs, and then Song Xiaodong continued to joke and laugh just like always, as if nothing had happened.
Suddenly, Song Xiaoru understood what Song Xiaodong meant; he didn’t want to disrupt their relationship, and she felt the same way. Since both understood each other’s feelings without saying a word, then there was no need for either of them to mention it again.
With that thought, the heavy stone that had been pressing on Song Xiaoru’s heart suddenly lifted, and she felt much lighter and at ease.
There wasn’t much planned for today. After breakfast, the four women discussed and decided to go shopping. Song Xiaodong initially didn’t want to go, but under the coaxing of Miao Xuanxuan and Xiao Yingying, he had no choice but to follow them to the mall.
Each of the four women, including Song Xiaoru, was stunningly beautiful. Miao Xuanxuan and Miao Qingqing, the twin beauties, stood out particularly, drawing eyes everywhere they went; their ability to turn heads was absolutely one hundred percent.
And Song Xiaodong, the only man among them, instantly became the object of envy, jealousy, and hate. If looks could kill, Song Xiaodong believed he would have been chopped into a thousand pieces by now.
After shopping for over an hour, Song Xiaodong’s phone rang; it was Feng Kexin. He hastily walked out of the shop to answer the call.
"Mr. Song, do you have time right now?"
"I do; where are you? I’ll come to you."
"I feel this matter is quite private, so I don’t want to go anywhere else. Could you come to my house?"
"Sure! No problem, just send me the address."
Soon after, Song Xiaodong received Feng Kexin’s home address. He informed Song Xiaoru that he needed to step out for a bit and told them to continue shopping.
The women didn’t stop him; Miao Qingqing was not the clingy type. She didn’t wish for Song Xiaodong to be around her every day; naturally, she would also give Song Xiaodong the freedom he needed.
Twenty minutes later, Song Xiaodong arrived at Feng Kexin’s home. Feng Kexin promptly let him in, and then Song Xiaodong noticed something troubling; she was home alone. This campus beauty had let a man into her house; wasn’t she afraid of danger?
