Chapter 340: Chapter 341: Song Xiaodong Establishes His Authority
The next day, Song Xiaodong arrived at the company. He had barely sat down when someone burst through the door without knocking.
This was a man in his forties, somewhat balding, not tall, but with a prominent belly. His face was livid as he rushed up to the desk, slammed his hand down, and glared as he barked, "Are you the new Deputy Manager of the Personnel Department?"
Song Xiaodong looked at this guy, suddenly slammed the table, and stood up abruptly, shouting, "Get out!" Then he leaned over the table and shoved the man in the chest.
The man only felt a strong force coming from Song Xiaodong’s hand before he could understand what was happening. He was involuntarily thrown backward, not just falling to the ground, but the force was still not dispelled; he involuntarily tumbled twice more before stopping outside the door—quite literally fulfilling Song Xiaodong’s command to roll out.
Chen Fei, hearing the commotion, hurried over and saw the beleaguered Manager Li Zifan of the Sales Department sprawled at the doorway of Song Xiaodong’s office, gaping in shock. What was this situation—had the two of them started fighting upon meeting?
"Manager Li!" Chen Fei immediately went over to help Li Zifan up, asking, "What happened to you?"
Li Zifan, swiping away Chen Fei’s hand in anger, stormed back into Song Xiaodong’s office and began cursing, pointing at Song Xiaodong’s nose, "I fuck your mother, you..."
Chen Fei only heard half of Li Zifan’s rant before another yelp echoed and then a shadow once again rolled out from the room, nearly crashing into him—it was indeed Li Zifan.
"From now on, whoever comes to my office without knocking and slams the desk while glaring at me will get thrown out!" Song Xiaodong’s voice rang from inside.
Chen Fei was stunned for a moment, then his eyes widened in realization—so it was Deputy Manager Song Xiaodong who had flung Li Zifan out. This new Deputy Manager really had quite the presence.
"You..." Li Zifan got up, once again trying to rush back in.
Chen Fei quickly embraced Li Zifan, saying, "Manager Li, don’t be impulsive, don’t be impulsive. You don’t want to be thrown out again, do you?"
"He wouldn’t dare!" Li Zifan roared angrily.
Chen Fei grimaced; this guy had already been thrown out twice, what else wouldn’t he dare? He quickly forced a dry laugh and said, "Manager Li, let’s talk calmly. I’ll knock on the door for you, then you can go in and have a proper talk with Manager Song. Otherwise... cough cough."
Having been thrown out twice, even if Li Zifan was slow, he would realize that charging in again would result in the same outcome. Besides, he couldn’t have become a manager if he were a fool. By now, he surely understood the situation.
But for a manager to be thrown out twice by a deputy manager who was not even level with him was a severe loss of face. How could Li Zifan swallow this insult? If he backed down now, the story would spread. Could he still save face in this company? That would be a complete joke.
Thankfully, Chen Fei had offered him a way out, so he stormed into Song Xiaodong’s office once more.
Although Chen Fei was curious about what would happen next, he still tactfully closed the door and then turned to other Personnel Department staff members who had come out to watch the commotion, shouting, "What are you staring at? Get back to work immediately."
Chen Fei had some standing in the Personnel Department as a lower-level leader, and since he had been there for a long time, he was quite revered. At his command, everyone promptly scurried back to their offices, but each of them perked up their ears, still curious about the unfolding events.
Song Xiaodong’s office was the scene of Li Zifan grinding his teeth in anger as he glared at Song Xiaodong. "Kid, you’ve got guts! How dare you hit me!"
Lighting a cigarette, Song Xiaodong replied coolly, "So what if I hit you? What are you to me, daring to come into my office and make such a racket?"
"You... I’m the manager of the sales department!" Li Zifan declared his title.
Blowing out a smoke ring, Song Xiaodong retorted, "And what does that have to do with me? This is my office; I make the rules here. When I come to your office, then you can make the rules for me!"
"Fine! You’ve got nerve, kid; just wait for it. I’ll see how long you can last in this company!" Li Zifan snorted, turned with animosity, and stormed out.
He had originally come to question Song Xiaodong about why the person he had greased the wheels for hadn’t been hired this time. But seeing how Song Xiaodong had dismissed him, clearly not caring about his connections, there was no longer any need to ask.
Once Li Zifan had left, Song Xiaodong called Chen Fei over.
"Chen Fei, spread the word about what just happened here."
"What?" Chen Fei’s eyes widened in alarm. "Deputy Manager Song, should we really spread this around? Isn’t that..."
"If I tell you to spread it, then spread it. I don’t want anymore people coming here to shout at me, and I don’t want anyone else trying to curry favor or send greetings. Recruitment is the HR department’s decision. It’s not for other departments to come here and wag their fingers."
Chen Fei was taken aback momentarily before responding with excitement, "Alright, got it!"
Chen Fei immediately went back to the adjacent office for the regular staff and shared Song Xiaodong’s instructions with everyone.
Suddenly, the entire HR department was abuzz. Many people felt suffocated by their work; often, even when they encountered qualified candidates, they couldn’t offer positions to them due to the need to reserve spaces for various connections.
However, within the HR department, there were also those who had gotten their jobs through connections. At this point, they, too, were feeling uneasy. Deputy Manager Song Xiaodong seemed particularly ruthless, and whether they could continue to scrape by in this company was a real concern.
Regardless, the story of Song Xiaodong throwing Chen Zifan out of the office twice was spread by the HR team on the company’s forum, and soon, everyone in the company knew about it.
The entire company was in turmoil. Other than the incident of Miao Qingyuan’s death and Miao Qingqing becoming the new chairman, the company hadn’t experienced such explosive news for a long time.
Others who had originally intended to confront Song Xiaodong now quieted down, recognizing that he was not one to save face for anyone. They certainly didn’t want to risk being thrown out by Song Xiaodong if they approached him next.
Miao Qingqing and Song Xiaoru also saw the news and were at a loss whether to laugh or cry. They hadn’t expected Song Xiaodong to pull such a stunt; whether this show of force was good or bad was quite uncertain.
