Chapter 317: Chapter 318 Assassination of Song Xiaodong
In the following days, the atmosphere at home remained very pleasant, with Song Xiaodong and Miao Xuanxuan spending most of their time playing video games together, Miao Xuanxuan’s shouts and laughter filled the house, making Miao Qingqing feel somewhat guilty.
But Song Xiaoru didn’t make a big deal out of it; with the cheerful Miao Xuanxuan at home, she felt more lively and far from annoyed, in fact, she actually grew quite fond of having her around.
At night, Song Xiaodong still massaged Miao Qingqing, but to avoid repeating past mistakes, Miao Qingqing simply had Song Xiaodong massage her in the living room, in the presence of Song Xiaoru and Miao Xuanxuan. This way, even if Song Xiaodong had the audacity, he wouldn’t dare take advantage of her.
However, having Song Xiaodong directly place his hands on her belly still made Miao Qingqing somewhat shy, but then she thought that there was no one else around—a future husband, her own younger sister, and Song Xiaodong’s own older sister—it was something she could face calmly.
Over these days, Miao Xuanxuan had become increasingly comfortable and seemed to have completely stepped out of the shadow of her breakup. Having adjusted to being the cheerful sister-in-law, she joked around with Song Xiaodong and Miao Qingqing daily. Although she still clung to Song Xiaodong, she gradually had her own life. That evening, she was out dining with a few girlfriends.
Miao Qingqing also had an event to attend that night, leaving the Song siblings alone at home for a rare occasion.
"Dongzi, let’s go to the old house later, I need to pick up something."
Song Xiaodong naturally had no objections. They drove there but didn’t park by the roadside outside because the road was in poor condition and cluttered with randomly placed items from the houses, which could easily scratch the car—Song Xiaoru wouldn’t dare let such a nice car get scratched.
As they made their way deeper inside, they occasionally saw some old neighbors chatting at their doorways, all of whom Song Xiaoru greeted cheerfully.
"Xiaoru, are you moving? Did you buy a bigger house?"
"Yes, Xiaodong bought it."
"Xiaodong is so capable! I always knew that kid would amount to something one day."
Hearing Song Xiaoru speak like this made everyone immediately start praising Song Xiaodong, which delighted Song Xiaoru immensely—even more than being praised herself—giving her a great sense of accomplishment.
As they opened the door to their own house, the yard seemed quite dark. The dim street light hardly provided any illumination for the small courtyard.
Although the yard was still tidy, compared to their current home, it looked utterly dilapidated. Song Xiaoru couldn’t help feeling sentimental as she said, "Dongzi, I never imagined that just a month ago, I was still living here. Now, I live in a big house and drive a luxury car—the changes in life are really so swift."
Song Xiaodong, with his arm around Song Xiaoru’s shoulders, smiled and said, "I’ll make sure that your days keep getting better, sister."
Song Xiaoru leaned her head on Song Xiaodong’s shoulder, feeling indescribably sweet and happy.
Song Xiaoru took out her keys, unlocked the door, and instinctively switched on the light. Having lived in this house for over a decade, she could navigate it even with her eyes closed.
With a "click!" the light in the house didn’t turn on.
"Oh, the bulb must be out." Song Xiaoru muttered, pulling out her phone, turning on the flashlight, and was about to step inside.
But Song Xiaodong suddenly felt a sense of danger, an intuition developed from years of combat. Immediately, he pushed his sister out of the way and rushed into the house himself.
In the darkness, a cold gleam of light surged towards Song Xiaodong with incredible speed and force, as if even the air was being sliced open by it.
Song Xiaodong’s eyes narrowed sharply as he identified an attacker wielding a dagger towards him. The attacker’s skills were undeniably superior, and his assassination techniques were top-notch as well.
Despite the opponent’s strength, Song Xiaodong had encountered such situations numerous times. With a swift motion of his palm, he had already struck at the opponent’s wrist.
The opponent quickly altered the dagger’s direction from a thrust to a swipe, changing moves exceptionally fast.
In an instant, they engaged in several moves within the confined space of the middle room. Although Song Xiaodong was stronger, the aggressor wielded a sharp blade, making it somewhat challenging for Song Xiaodong to subdue him quickly.
The combatants moved too quickly. Only then did Song Xiaoru manage to steady herself. Hearing noise inside, she called out anxiously, "Xiaodong! What’s happening?" as she moved to walk inside.
At that moment, the assassin fiercely attacked Song Xiaodong again. However, it was a feint; the dagger’s gleaming light caught Song Xiaodong’s attention while the other hand flicked several faint glimmers of light towards Song Xiaoru.
"Courting death!" Song Xiaodong roared in rage. He swung his arms, deflecting most of the gleams, but a fine flash of light still penetrated Song Xiaoru’s right chest.
"My needle is poisoned. If you want her to die, continue fighting me!" the person croaked, retreating two steps.
Song Xiaodong snorted coldly and swiftly made his decision. "You better hope I don’t catch you."
"Then try catching me," the assailant said before crashing through the window and leaping outside, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Song Xiaodong would indeed have to exert considerable effort to detain the man, but with his sister pierced by the hidden weapon and the poison’s effects unknown, he dared not waste time nor take the risk.
Previously, Song Xiaodong wouldn’t have let him escape. However, his most important person was right beside him now, and he truly couldn’t fight freely.
He quickly carried Song Xiaoru into the inner room. Fortunately, the lamp wasn’t broken there. Turning on the light, Song Xiaodong was startled.
Song Xiaoru’s complexion was noticeably turning black—a clear sign of severe poisoning.
"Xiaodong, my body feels numb, I can hardly feel anything," Song Xiaoru said weakly.
"Sister, don’t be scared. I’m the best doctor around. You definitely won’t come to any harm while I’m here," Song Xiaodong assured her as he started to remove her clothes and suddenly spotted a bit of the needle’s tail sticking out from her right bra.
Without hesitation, Song Xiaodong pulled out the needle, then quickly unfastened Song Xiaoru’s bra.
On Song Xiaoru’s right breast, there was a needle mark, and the surrounding skin had already turned black—the poison was potent!
Song Xiaodong took a deep breath. He inserted several silver needles around the chest area to stop the spread of the poison. Then, taking another deep breath, he placed his hands on Song Xiaoru’s right breast and gradually exerted pressure towards the center, trying to force the poison out.
After trying twice, he sensed the method wasn’t very effective. Immediately, he lowered his head and clamped his mouth over the wound, sucking out the poison with force.
"Ah... Xiaodong, you..." As the poison was checked, Song Xiaoru, still feeling numb, was quite aware. Being held there by Song Xiaodong had already embarrassed her, but now with him using his mouth directly, it made her even more uncomfortably shy.
After all, she wasn’t really Song Xiaodong’s biological sister...
