Chapter 291: Chapter 292: The Class Beauty’s Criticism

"Brother Dongzi, is there a beauty who has asked you out?" Xiao Yingying pouted with an expression of deep yearning.

Song Xiaodong smiled and replied, "Well, an old high school classmate of mine, definitely a beauty, but she already has a boyfriend."

Xiao Yingying immediately responded, "Seeing you, Brother Dongzi, even if she has a boyfriend, she might dump him and want to be with you instead."

"Pfft..." Song Xiaodong suddenly burst into laughter and said, "Your Brother Dongzi doesn’t have the habit of stealing other men’s girlfriends."

Xiao Yingying giggled and said, "She might throw herself at you anyway."

"You," Song Xiaodong shook his head and said, "you think no other man can compare to me, right?"

"Exactly!" Xiao Yingying nodded repeatedly, then suddenly sat up, the blanket slipping to her waist without her minding. She grabbed her clothes and said, "Can I go with you, Brother Dongzi?"

When Song Xiaodong saw Xiao Yingying’s body, he intended to turn away but then realized that looking away might seem even more improper, so he didn’t turn and instead continued to smile at Xiao Yingying, saying, "Last time I saw her, I went with Miao Qingqing. If you come along now, she might think I’ve changed girlfriends."

While putting on her clothes, Xiao Yingying said, "You could say I’m your lover. Besides, I’m already your little lover, it’s just that right now I can’t do everything with you."

Song Xiaodong found himself feeling somewhat stirred, but his thoughts weren’t too indecent. He regarded her like a beautiful piece of art and, after a moment’s thought, said, "Let’s skip it then, I don’t even know why she wants to meet, and if you come, I’m afraid she might not feel comfortable speaking freely."

"Is that so..." Xiao Yingying pursed her lips and said, "Alright then, I won’t go with you." Then she, halfway through dressing, carelessly took off her clothes again, stretched out her arms, and said, "Hug me before you go."

Song Xiaodong went over and hugged her, gently patting her back, and said, "Alright, rest well, and once you’re feeling better, I’ll take you out."

Xiao Yingying snuggled into Song Xiaodong’s chest and obediently said, "Mm-hmm, once I’m better, I’ll be your good little lover."

Half an hour later, Song Xiaodong had arrived at a café, where Su Yao waved at him from a window-side seat.

Song Xiaodong went over and sat across from her, casually ordered a coffee, and then said with a grin, "Our Class Beauty Su is looking even more stunning today."

"Really? Did you feel like chasing after me?" Su Yao asked with a smile.

"Cough cough... weren’t you going steady with Zhou Peng? I’m scared he might come back and fight me," he said.

Su Yao’s expression turned somewhat unpleasant as she said, "I broke up with him."

"Oh? Why? I thought Zhou Peng was pretty good to you, and he’s doing well too, quite a good match for you."

"Forget it, he’s all talk. He did start a small business, but he only makes two or three hundred thousand a year, never as much as he boasts. He’s always so concerned about saving face. That kind of money isn’t enough for just him, let alone us, and from time to time he even has to ask his parents for help. I’ve had enough," she said.

"Well... I don’t really know what to say," Song Xiaodong shrugged.

"A man like that isn’t worth my lifelong commitment, if I don’t break up now, I’ll just get dragged down too." Su Yao was a very practical person, so her decision came calmly and directly.

"So you met with me just to talk about this?" Song Xiaodong was still a bit puzzled.

"I just needed someone to vent to. Those classmates of ours, they all think I have it flashy, but I don’t want them to look down on me if they knew I’m not really living that well. I figured none of our classmates would think much of you either, and even if I told you, they wouldn’t know."

Song Xiaodong grimaced and said, "Sounds quite reasonable."

Su Yao chuckled and said, "Sorry if that was a bit harsh. Honestly, I had a bit of a crush on you back in school. If you hadn’t joined the military and instead pursued me, I might have ended up being with you."

Song Xiaodong was quite surprised and responded, "Really? You had feelings for me? Back then, I wasn’t into studying and always got into fights; I’m quite flattered by your feelings."

Su Yao said sweetly, "Honestly, everyone was younger back then and busy with studying. Good students naturally didn’t attract much attention. You were quite the icon in class, and a lot of the girls felt something for you."

"And now?" Song Xiaodong took a sip of his coffee, finding the conversation rather amusing, and asked Su Yao with a teasing smile.

"Now..." Su Yao gently stirred her coffee with a spoon and sighed, "We’ve all grown up, and it’s no longer the naïve era; love is more practical now. I need a man who can offer me a better life with more career opportunities, and you...currently don’t qualify."

Before Song Xiaodong could respond, Su Yao said immediately, "I’m sorry, I’m just being factual, not looking down on you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have asked you out to chat, and you also have a girlfriend who’s willing to go through thick and thin with you; that’s your fortune, which I truly admire."

Thinking of Miao Qingqing and Miao Xuanxuan, Song Xiaodong felt a bit uncomfortable and said, "Yeah, I am quite lucky."

"Dongzi, as an old classmate, I still want to give you some advice. As a man, you must provide a superior life for a woman. Even if not superior, it must be stable. To be blunt, your girlfriend is so beautiful, I don’t know how many men covet her. She might choose to stay with you out of love for a year or two, but over time, as love turns to familiarity, without adequate material comfort, she might just leave you," Su Yao advised earnestly.

Song Xiaodong smiled slightly and said, "Thanks for the advice; I’ll work on it."

Su Yao frowned, frustrated, and said, "Look at your attitude, lacking any ambition. A real man should have an unstoppable drive. Look at you; you used to be so bold and domineering, how come it seems like you’ve lost all that spirit now?"

Song Xiaodong rubbed his nose, at a loss for words. If Su Yao had spoken sarcastically, he could have managed a response, but her genuine concern made it hard for him to retort. He could only chuckle and thank her for her well-meaning advice.
