Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Third Aunt Is Completely Dumbfounded
Song Xiaodong had returned home early today and even made some dinner, considering his cooking skills were not too bad; it’s just that he hadn’t had much chance to show them off recently.
Soon, Song Xiaoru came home and, seeing Song Xiaodong cooking, smiled and said, "Dongzi, you came back so early today."
Grinning, Song Xiaodong replied, "I wanted to cook a meal for you, sis. Go and change your clothes."
Just as Song Xiaoru was about to go upstairs to change, her phone rang. After a brief conversation, she walked back to the kitchen doorway.
"Dongzi, Third Aunt is coming to visit us, and she’s already at our old house. I’ll go pick her up."
"Why is she coming?" Song Xiaodong frowned, and even though he had decided not to hold a grudge against her last time, he still didn’t want to get too close to her.
"Oh come on, Third Aunt has been quite concerned about us lately. We’re all family, and since she’s taking a step forward, we should look past the past for Third Uncle’s sake."
"Alright then, you go. I’ll wait for you to come back for dinner. Drive slowly, there’s a lot of traffic now."
"Got it."
Song Xiaoru agreed, took the car, and drove to their old house, a trip that took just under twenty minutes.
Third Aunt was standing at the corner, looking around anxiously, thinking to herself, "Xiaoru even has her own car now. It’s really like three years on the west bank and three on the east."
"Such a beautiful car..." As a red sports car pulled up beside her, Third Aunt hurriedly stepped back several paces. Even though she didn’t know much about cars, the bright color and sleek design told her it wasn’t cheap. She had heard that just a scratch on such a car could cost a lot of money; she was afraid to even touch it.
Yet, the car stopped right in front of her, making Third Aunt even more nervous; she moved further aside.
"Third Aunt!" Song Xiaoru rolled down the car window and called out to her.
"Ah, who?" Third Aunt stared blankly at Song Xiaoru in the car, then vigorously rubbed her eyes, staring intently at Song Xiaoru’s face.
"Third Aunt, get in the car," Song Xiaoru called out to her with a smile.
"This... this..." Trembling, Third Aunt approached the car, reached out her hand, but then quickly pulled it back.
Song Xiaoru quickly leaned over to push open the door, saying, "Third Aunt, this is our family car; just get in."
Only then did Third Aunt cautiously get into the car, her hands trembling as she fastened the safety belt. It took five or six minutes after Song Xiaoru had driven away for her to regain her composure.
"Xiaoru? You... did you buy this car?"
Song Xiaoru said, "No, Dongzi bought it for me."
"Dongzi bought it for you... How much did this car cost?" Third Aunt sat in the car, unsure where to place her hands, afraid to move.
Trying to be modest, Song Xiaoru, knowing how conspicuous the car was, decided to just tell the truth, "Over five million."
"Five hundred, my... million!" Third Aunt practically shouted the word "million."
Song Xiaoru was startled and quickly said, "Third Aunt, you scared me."
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it just scared me to death, spending over five million on a car... Oh my God."
Third Aunt kept muttering to herself until she got out of the car, and only then did she come back to her senses.
Upon entering the house and seeing the spacious living room, Third Aunt was once again stunned. Song Xiaoru said, "Come on in, you’re being too polite — this is our home."
The corners of Third Aunt’s mouth twitched as she said, "This is... your new home?"
"Yes, please come in and have a seat."
Third Aunt sat on the large leather sofa, once again unsure where to place her hands and feet. She could clearly tell that everything here was very valuable.
Although she knew a few days ago that Song Xiaodong now had capabilities and had made some money, it wasn’t very obvious to her, so even after apologizing that one time, she still hadn’t truly realized how strong Song Xiaodong’s financial standing was now.
For her, talk of connections and potential was useless. What mattered most was the kind of house one lived in, the car one drove, and how much money one had.
An expensive car worth five to six million, such a large house — these truly shocked Third Aunt deeply; she finally realized just how wealthy Song Xiaodong had become. She not only regretted looking down on him in the past but was also very unsettled.
"Dongzi... Third Aunt, I... before, towards you all..."
Seeing Third Aunt’s restless manner, Song Xiaodong felt as if a knot in his heart had suddenly unravelled. Regardless of everything, Third Aunt was just an ordinary person with limited horizons. Expecting her to have a generous spirit was simply impossible; she could only think about her own little world.
To still hold grudges against such a person would be demeaning oneself.
"Third Aunt, let’s put the past behind us. The food is ready; let’s eat together," Song Xiaodong invited with a smile.
At this point, Third Aunt truly felt overwhelmed with gratitude. She opened her mouth but couldn’t find the words to speak.
Song Xiaoru pulled her to the dining table, gave her cutlery, and the three of them began to eat together, though Third Aunt still acted very reserved and hardly dared to eat, despite Song Xiaodong and Song Xiaoru’s encouragement.
After the meal, they sat in the living room, and Song Xiaodong took the initiative to start a conversation, "Third Aunt, did you particularly come to our house for something?"
Third Aunt’s eyes lit up as she opened her mouth but could only stammer without forming words.
"Third Aunt, if there’s anything, just tell us, and we’ll definitely help if we can," Song Xiaodong encouraged.
Only then did Third Aunt cautiously say, "Well, last time I saw how capable Xiaodong was, so I wanted to ask... if it’s possible to fix a job for your brother."
Song Xiaodong frowned slightly, and Third Aunt quickly added, "If it’s inconvenient, never mind."
Song Xiaodong said, "That’s not it. Hasn’t Shen Ping taken care of Xian Ping’s job yet?"
Third Aunt, looking troubled, said, "No, he keeps saying he’s on medical leave, so the matter keeps dragging on."
Song Xiaodong hesitated briefly. He really didn’t want to treat Shen Ping, but seeing the hopeful look in Third Aunt’s eyes and the pleading eyes of Song Xiaoru, he sighed and said, "Then, call Shen Ping and tell him to finalize Xian Ping’s job; then I will treat his illness."
Third Aunt was overjoyed and said, "Alright, I’ll call him right away. Thank you, Dongzi, thank you, Xiaoru."
With a thousand thanks, Third Aunt left. Song Xiaoru drove her, but while she should have been back by now, Song Xiaoru hasn’t returned. Just as Song Xiaodong was about to call Song Xiaoru, her phone call came in first.
"Dongzi, something terrible has happened. I hit someone," Song Xiaoru said, her voice filled with tears, clearly panicking.
