Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Miao Qingqing’s Appointment

"Ding ding ding!" The knock at the door sounded, and Li Sijie, like a startled rabbit, immediately pushed Song Xiaodong away.

Because her movement was too violent, Song Xiaodong’s hand had not yet been withdrawn and nearly swept her off the chair with him. Song Xiaodong quickly pulled his hand back to stabilize her, saying, "Don’t panic, relax a bit. Otherwise, before anything big happens, you’ll give it away."

Li Sijie, in a flurry, tidied her clothes before she said, "Come in."

The door opened, and a coach walked in, only to see Song Xiaodong standing by Li Sijie’s side, "President Li, I feel there’s something wrong with this contract. Should we study it a bit more?"

"Hmm, there is indeed something problematic," Li Sijie followed up on Song Xiaodong’s words, then raised her head to address the newcomer, "Coach Sun, what’s the matter?"

Coach Sun immediately replied, "President Li, we need some equipment recently. Could you see to providing some for us?"

Li Sijie nodded and said, "Okay, send me the materials, and I will have someone review them. If needed, we’ll supply them to you promptly."

"If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave then," Coach Sun said as he cast another glance at Song Xiaodong. Rumors in the club suggested that Li Sijie and Song Xiaodong were involved. Seeing them together, he couldn’t help but wonder if the rumors were true. But wasn’t Song Xiaodong Miao Xuanxuan’s boyfriend? What was going on here?

As the office door closed, Li Sijie let out a sigh of relief, then turned to look at Song Xiaodong with flushed cheeks, saying, "It’s all your fault, you scoundrel. You almost made me embarrass myself just now."

This wasn’t one person’s mistake, but the man always has to take the blame. Song Xiaodong chuckled lightly and said, "Who made you so attractive? I lost control and made a move."

Li Sijie said sternly, "This can’t happen again in the office."

"So does that mean... it’s okay if it’s not in the office?" Song Xiaodong blinked.

"That’s not okay either," Li Sijie’s tone seemed resolute, but the coyness at the corner of her eyes and brows betrayed her.

"Really?" Song Xiaodong squinted at Li Sijie.

"Of course it’s... Dongzi... please don’t push me. Can you just stop?" Li Sijie wanted to be very resolute in refusing, but facing Song Xiaodong’s gaze, she couldn’t help feeling guilty. She was indeed somewhat infatuated and even a bit lost.

Song Xiaodong touched Li Sijie’s face, smiling tenderly, and said, "Alright, don’t think too much about it. I have to go teach a class." He then walked out.

Li Sijie felt as if a great burden had been lifted, her body going limp in the executive chair. How could she be so weak-willed, and why was she acting so recklessly? Wasn’t this making her one of those "bad women" people talked about?

She shook her head vigorously, trying to clear her head and define her relationship with Song Xiaodong, but after a while, she sadly realized that she was truly attracted to Song Xiaodong. She had genuinely fallen for this man.

Speaking of looks, Song Xiaodong might not be as handsome as her former husband Sun Dongming, but Song Xiaodong had a special kind of manliness about him. He was usually unassuming, but when something truly demanded action, this manly quality would shine through, making him feel so dependable as if no matter the trouble, it could be solved with Song Xiaodong around.

In addition, Song Xiaodong was a doctor with excellent medical skill. Not only did he have connections within the hospital, but even powerful figures in official circles wanted to make his acquaintance. Most importantly, Song Xiaodong remained indifferent to such attention, which is not something an ordinary man could achieve.

Moreover, Song Xiaodong’s disregard for money appealed to her, especially after her painful failed marriage, making it all the more precious.

So no matter how much she thought or tried to make sense of it, the more Li Sijie realized her heart had been completely captured by Song Xiaodong.

"Sigh... But I can’t do this, I’m a divorced woman, and Xiaodong has such a promising future, it’s impossible for me to be with him. I’d be just like a moth to a flame, courting my own destruction."

Li Sijie was no naive girl, and she understood all too well that it was impossible for her to be truly together with Song Xiaodong. If she had never been married, she might have had some confidence, but now she had none at all.

"Could it be... I should become someone like Xiao Yingying to Xiaodong, like a... mistress?"

The thought that suddenly popped into her head frightened Li Sijie enough.

In the Vice President’s office of Qingyuan Group, Miao Qingqing furrowed her brows as she looked at an invitation in her hand.

This was her second year working at the company, and she was directly appointed to the role of vice president. The pressure was really quite overwhelming for her.

However, helping her father manage the company, Miao Qingqing had no complaints. She also wanted to prove her ability through her own efforts to make the family’s Qingyuan Group better.

She could handle the busy company affairs, but there was one thing she didn’t like: socializing. Rubbing elbows with business tycoons and government officials was frustrating for her.

But in her position, she had to attend such events.

Normally, Miao Qingqing wouldn’t be too bothered by receiving an invitation, but today her father Miao Qingyuan had asked her to bring Song Xiaodong as well, saying it was a good opportunity for Song Xiaodong to get some practice and eventually be able to help her.

Miao Qingqing had always been clarifying that there wasn’t that kind of relationship between her and Song Xiaodong, but the day her father saw them booking a room together, he had made up his mind. Coupled with the fact that Song Xiaodong had previously mentioned sharing a bed with one of her sisters in Las Vegas, her father was convinced it was she who did it, and no explanation would suffice.

After agonizing for a long time, Miao Qingqing finally reluctantly dialed Song Xiaodong’s number.

At that moment, Song Xiaodong and Miao Xuanxuan were eating at a noodle shop outside the club. Seeing Miao Qingqing’s call, Song Xiaodong looked at Miao Xuanxuan and said, "It’s your sister’s call."

"Then just answer it, why are you looking at me?" Miao Xuanxuan gave Song Xiaodong an annoyed look, but his head eagerly leant forward, clearly wanting to eavesdrop on what Song Xiaodong and Miao Qingqing were going to discuss.

"Qingqing, what’s up?" asked Song Xiaodong directly.

"Song Xiaodong, I need a favor."

"Oh? Is it difficult? If it’s tough, I might just pass."

Hearing Song Xiaodong’s attitude, Miao Xuanxuan immediately pinched him, glaring with wide eyes. On the other end of the phone, Miao Qingqing couldn’t help but feel somewhat speechless as she said, "It’s not difficult. It’s just that I need you to accompany me to a cocktail party, there will be good food, drinks, and fun things to do."

"Is that so? What role will I be playing if I go?" asked Song Xiaodong with a teasing smile.

Miao Xuanxuan immediately got excited, he stood up abruptly, leaning over the small table, with his hands resting on it, his face almost pressed against Song Xiaodong’s, determined to hear everything clearly.

ps: The plot hasn’t been flowing smoothly, so writing this was particularly tiring. It took me all morning to finish this Chapter. Now, I’m going to grab some lunch, and I’ll continue writing in the afternoon. I have to at least update one more Chapter.
