Return of the King, Dominating the City
Chapter 87 - 87 86 Loving Breakfast

87: Chapter 86: Loving Breakfast 87: Chapter 86: Loving Breakfast The sky had barely brightened when Xiao Qing got out of bed.

She stretched twice in the courtyard, saw the good weather, and decided to go for a run.

On her way back, she planned to buy some breakfast to bring over to Song Yun, since he had been the one bringing breakfast back after his morning exercises recently.

But today, there was no movement in the courtyard opposite, probably because Senior Brother Song hadn’t woken up yet.

“Lazybones,” Xiao Qing muttered under her breath as she stuck out her little pink tongue towards the neighboring courtyard, but she’d heard that Senior Brother Song had been busy recently, so she let him sleep a bit longer as a way to thank him for fending off Su Qin last time.

As she was changing clothes to go out, she heard continuous instructions coming from the courtyard opposite, without knowing what was being busied over.

Out of curiosity, she climbed onto the wall for a look and was surprised to find Li Shishi and Qingluan covered in grime, as if they had just returned from a coal mine.

And it looked like the two of them were chaotically handling something in the kitchen in the courtyard.

“Sister Shishi, is it really okay to start the morning with such greasy fried bread?

And these pieces seem slightly burnt…” Qingluan muttered while holding a bowl in one hand and stirring an egg in it with the other.

“Why not,” Li Shishi seriously, while flipping the bread slices in the oil pan with her chopsticks, “This is a return to a traditional Chinese breakfast, and I’m telling you, the slightly burnt ones are the tastiest.

Haven’t you eaten them before?”

“It is a concern though; I think you’ve used too much oil.

You’ve used half a barrel of peanut oil, and these bread slices don’t look edible at all.

What if they’re toxic…” Qingluan said, clearly worried.

“What should we do…

You kept telling me to pour while I was pouring the oil; how can you blame me now?” Li Shishi pouted.

“That’s not possible; I was telling you that it was about to run out, you must have heard wrong,” Qingluan denied with her hands spread out.

“What are you…

what are you doing?” Unable to curb her curiosity, Xiao Qing climbed over the wall to Song Yun’s side of the courtyard and asked, looking at the two whose faces were smudged with soot.

“Xiaoqing has come.

I couldn’t sleep, so thought of getting up early to make some breakfast,” Li Shishi said, chuckling awkwardly.

“But…” Xiao Qing hesitated, then said, “What time is it?

It’s only half-past six, and it looks like you two have been working here for quite some time already.

Didn’t you get up around five or six?”

“It’s okay, it’s okay.

We don’t mind the effort for everyone’s breakfast,” Qingluan said with a smile.

But the next events were not quite right, not routine at all.

After frying the bread, Li Shishi cooked a pot of egg soup, then served the food on the table not letting her eat first but seemed to boastfully incite Qingluan to bring Song Yun out to eat.

The two sisters seemed off today…

Xiao Qing always felt there was something wrong, but if asked to point it out explicitly, she couldn’t immediately describe that feeling.

Song Yun sat at the dining table thinking similarly, given his busy days lately requiring a lot of mental work which led to his brain crashing a bit.

The weather seemed nice, suitable for a little extra sleep.

Therefore, just as he was about to get up, he ended up falling back asleep.

To his surprise, he hadn’t slept for half an hour when Qingluan, this hooligan, yanked him from his bedcovers.

Moreover, the most outrageous part was this little hooligan sticking her icy cold hands inside his bed, randomly groping.

If it weren’t for his determination to maintain his chastity and dignity, he would have been taken advantage of.

While sending Qingluan out to wait, Qingluan pouted unhappily.

If not for Song Yun urgently declaring his habit of “being in fruity sleep,” his quilt might have been ripped in half.

Dressed and just out the door, he hadn’t even had a moment to reflect on the beauty of life when Qingluan grabbed his collar and dragged him to the dining table.

But he hadn’t even washed up yet.

Watching Li Shishi and Qingluan staring at him curiously like inquisitive babies, Song Yun also felt off…

What was up with these two girls today…

“Okay, everyone’s here.

This breakfast was specially made by Sister Shishi and me just for you.

If you don’t finish it, you’ll be letting us down,” Qingluan threatened.

“For me?” Song Yun asked, surprised.

“Of course, Sister Shishi saw how busy you looked, so she called me over, and we mercifully made you this breakfast out of sheer compassion.

Touching isn’t it, almost makes you want to cry, right?” Qingluan commented, expecting praise.

Song Yun indeed felt like crying, cradling his head and yet not daring to let out a sob…

These two were practically out to get him.

Have you seen bread slices fried to just a few centimeters short and turned pitch black?

And they fall apart the moment you poke them with chopsticks.

Song Yun seriously doubted he could eat these slices without getting food poisoning, with no chance of recovery.

Swallowing, he wrinkled his nose and said pleadingly, “Sisters, just tell me what you want, and I promise I’ll agree.

Even if you demand something harsh, it’ll still be a no, but you don’t have to torture me like this…”

“Ah…

what do you mean?” Qingluan asked, tilting her head, puzzled.

“Isn’t it like plotting to kill me surreptitiously?

Look at this bread; do you think it’s edible?

Fried dry and oily and pitch black…

I feel like I could get poisoned.”

“Song Yun, just go die,” Li Shishi shouted, flinging her chopsticks directly at Song Yun’s face.

“Exactly, just go die.

We wake up early to make breakfast for you, and you slander us like this,” Qingluan shouted, stirring up chaos.

“Senior Brother Song, why don’t you take a bite?

Look, Sister Shishi and Sister Qingluan have been busy all morning.

It’d be rude not to try a bit,” Xiao Qing said despite being wary of the darkened bread pieces.

But considering this was a token of affection, she could only persuade Song Yun from the sidelines.

“Why don’t you take a bite, okay?

This is the fruit of nearly an hour’s labor,” Qingluan urged, her big eyes growing misty, as if she would burst into tears if he refused.

“This…

I…

this…

haha.” Song Yun could only give an awkward laugh without responding.

Honestly, he really dared not eat this breakfast; both Li Shishi and Qingluan were missy type of girls who had hardly touched household chores.

Not to mention Li Shishi, just the last time he went to Qingluan’s house, he hadn’t found any trace of the kitchen utensils being used.

Perhaps this meal was Qingluan’s first attempt at cooking, and with her exuberant nature, who knew what she might’ve added to that egg soup.
