Chapter 700: You are responsible for making money to support the family, I am responsible for being beautiful_1
"Fine, you’ll be in charge of making money to support the family, and I’ll be in charge of looking gorgeous,"
he immediately said, with absolutely no psychological burden of "living off a woman."
The two completely ignored the presence of a low-wattage third wheel and continued to flirt and tease each other, causing Helen, who was beside them, to once again struggle to resist the urge to curse "damned couple."
Why had she agreed to come on this trip? She wasn’t here to tour; it was clear she was here to witness how they tormented her, the single dog.
"Want to go fishing?"
After some playful banter, Adam Jones made the suggestion.
"Sure,"
Elly Campbell agreed, turning to look at Helen, who was silently observing them, and saw the disdain in her friend’s eyes. Elly suddenly realized something and her face betrayed a hint of embarrassment.
"Helen, do you want to join us for fishing?"
The answer she got was Helen’s silent death glare.
Elly felt even more embarrassed under her gaze.
"You want me to keep being tormented by you two lovebirds?"
Elly Campbell: "..."
Of course, Adam didn’t like the idea of always having a third wheel around his dear wife, but considering his brother was still healing from a love wound, he still generously offered:
"Is it because you’re jealous of our marital bliss, or because you’re afraid to face Harry Hall?"
Adam’s words struck right at the core issue for Helen - Harry Hall was her Achilles heel.
Elly clearly caught the provocative intent in her island chief’s words. As cruel as it might be for her friend, for once, she didn’t say anything.
Helen’s complexion turned slightly pale, then looking at Adam, she tried to sound calm and huffed:
"I haven’t done anything wrong to Harry, so why should I be afraid to face him?"
"Exactly, Helen has already broken up with Harry. She wouldn’t be afraid to face him. It’s not like she has a guilty conscience,"
Elly chimed in, seemingly backing Helen, but the comment "It’s not like she has a guilty conscience" made Helen feel all the more guilty.
Even though she didn’t know exactly what she was feeling guilty about.
"Since that’s the case, Elly wants you to go fishing with her. Just go with her,"
his tone left no room for refusal, prompting Helen to mentally flip him off.
Adam felt he had been generous enough to his brother, having offered so many words to a woman other than his wife; he had done right by his friend.
If Helen refused again, he could only feel sympathy for Harry.
Helen was no fool; she could hear the couple’s intention to create an opportunity for her. Looking at them, she scoffed:
"You don’t need to provoke me with this reverse psychology. I don’t want to go fishing simply because I have no interest or patience for it. Even if I stayed there, I’d just be bored."
She turned and walked to the chair under the parasol nearby, lay down, and once again covered her face with her sunglasses, saying, "You guys go have fun. I’ll rest here for a bit."
Elly knew Helen’s temper was volatile and easily provoked. She had thought that by her and Adam taking turns, they could get her to agree to go to the island. Unexpectedly, Helen not only called out their hidden agenda but also outright refused.
It seemed that her resolve to avoid any further involvement with Harry was strong.
Elly looked at Helen with some concern. She sighed internally but decided not to force her anymore.
