Chapter 159: Chapter 159: That look, as if it suddenly had light

Gu Zhi was taken aback, "Where did you get these?"

"Your brother gave them to me, and the company gave me one more," Dai Qian said with a snort, "Let those people say you can’t attend the KSL banquet. Now we have two, let me see if I can borrow a dress from a brand company. We must choose wisely!"

Gu Zhi: "..."

She had just hung up the phone when she received a call from Qin Ji, who said:

"Zhi Zhi, we also have invitations to KSL, Chairman Yang gave me two, and I passed them on to Dai Qian. The head of KSL contacted me through Chairman Yang, saying they want to invite you to be the brand ambassador for their company."

Upon hearing this, Gu Zhi understood and replied with a hum, "I just heard from Dai Qian. You can discuss the collaboration directly with him."

"Alright, about the dress for the banquet..." Qin Ji frowned; this was his biggest headache. He didn’t want his sister to be poorly dressed, but with his current ability, he couldn’t procure high-end dresses. He pursed his lips and said, "Can you borrow one on your end? If not, I’ll figure something out."

Gu Zhi chuckled at his words, an idea coming to her mind, "Doesn’t KSL own a clothing brand? I’ll have Dai Qian handle it."

Qin Ji laughed after realizing, "Alright, then let’s attend together."

Gu Zhi replied with a hum, but the most urgent matter was preparing for Director Zhang’s audition. Although Director Zhang’s film wasn’t being shot immediately, they were already recruiting actors, and he was keen to see her acting.

After completing her current scenes, she went to the audition hotel with Qu Qi.

On the way, Gu Zhi took the opportunity to study Zhang Hong’s cinematic style.

Qu Qi surfed the internet as she spoke, "Sister Zhizhi, no wonder Director Zhang is so demanding. I heard that he modifies the script based on the actor’s impression during auditions, almost crafting a film tailored specifically for that actor.

His last two films flopped because they strayed from the market, and the actors didn’t deliver what he wanted. They really flopped hard."

Gu Zhi smiled at her words; she was already aware of all this.

Qu Qi’s heart skipped a beat at her smile but quickly calmed down. With concern, she said, "Taking on Director Zhang’s project seems risky. I wonder if he can make a comeback?"

Gu Zhi remained silent all the way to the hotel.

The casting auditions at the hotel were still ongoing, with many people bustling around.

Upon arrival, Gu Zhi made contact with the assistant director, who personally escorted them, saying, "Director Zhang is currently overseeing the auditions. I’ll inform him."

Gu Zhi nodded, having no objections.

The assistant director took her information and approached the man sitting in front of the monitor, saying, "The actor for the role of Ye Zizheng has arrived, Gu Zhi, the one who’s been gaining a lot of attention lately."

Zhang Hong glanced at the information, vaguely remembering that he had seen Ye Zizheng’s role acted out, and indeed, it was quite good. However, he still frowned, saying, "Too young, doesn’t quite fit."

The assistant director was caught off guard, "But her acting is good, and she has the perfect aura for our Ye Jia. She’s here now; let’s at least have a look."

"Just because one role is acted well doesn’t mean every role can be handled," Zhang Hong put down the information expressionlessly, "Let her come in."

The assistant director nodded with difficulty and went out to call Gu Zhi in.

There was no choice; their director was notoriously nitpicky and fussy.

Gu Zhi, however, showed no expression and walked straight up to the monitor.

Zhang Hong glanced at her and said expressionlessly, "Let’s begin, start with any scene."

His face remained cold, his voice exceptionally stern, carrying an aura of authority, yet upon closer look, his eyes betrayed a deep melancholy.

Unlike Tang Jin’s strictness, he exuded a sense of despondency.

Gu Zhi randomly selected a segment from the audition script. This film told the story of an extraordinarily ordinary girl from a small alley who, after decades away from home, returned as a distinguished socialite. The strange and touching events that had happened to her over the years and her interactions with her neighbors upon returning to the alley.

Gu Zhi quickly immersed herself into the character. Her conviction as an actor almost seemed effortless, each gesture and expression made it seem as though she truly was Ye Jia.

Director Zhang was momentarily stunned, his face full of disbelief.

He had given the script to many people for the role of Ye Jia, but either they didn’t want to be in his film, or they couldn’t pull it off.

Ye Jia’s role was extraordinarily challenging to grasp, needing to embody the timidity and cowardice of a small person, along with a dowdiness, yet also possessing the elegance, charm, and radiance of a socialite.

Go even slightly overboard, and it would be a caricature.

But Gu Zhi handled it perfectly.

For a moment, Director Zhang felt unaccountably nervous and agitated as if the Ye Jia in his mind had suddenly come to life.

He furrowed his brow and, suppressing his emotions, had Gu Zhi perform two more scenes, both of which she accomplished.

How could this be? She’s only a twenty-year-old girl?

The assistant director was equally impressed, though he didn’t have as profound a feeling as the director, he thought Gu Zhi’s acting was impeccable.

After Gu Zhi finished all the scenes, Zhang Hong turned off the monitor, unable to hide his amazement as he asked, "Did you graduate from a theater academy? Or was there a teacher who taught you?"

Gu Zhi quickly exited the character and shook her head at his question, "It’s all in the information."

Zhang Hong couldn’t help but review her information once more, finding it pitifully sparse. Not only was she not from a theater school, but even her university was one he’d never heard of, yet he felt even more moved.

But he said nothing further, only remaining serious as he said, "Go back and wait for the notice. We’ll contact you once the results are out."

There was no surprise in Gu Zhi’s expression; she was confident she had secured the role.

The assistant director looked regretful and couldn’t help but say, "Director Zhang, she’s practically Ye Jia reincarnated! She really did it; why are you hesitating?"

Director Zhang glanced at him yet repeated, "Go back and wait for the notice. In three months, I need a fully sealed environment to prep for this film. I hope you are prepared."

Gu Zhi nodded. She was already accustomed to filming in a closed environment, given how rarely she took additional work, it was now just for exposure.

Additionally, "Double Time" would have already wrapped up filming in three months.

After the audition, she left with Qu Qi, still hearing the assistant director’s emphatic "no one fits the lead role better than her" comments in the background.

Qu Qi was utterly bewildered as they left.

Having watched numerous scenes with Gu Zhi, knowing her prowess, she still found herself astonished.

Sister Zhizhi just looked so stunning on camera! She could portray any role!

Qu Qi couldn’t help but say, "Sister Zhizhi, I feel like you definitely got this role. I just saw the spark in Director Zhang’s eyes when he looked at you. It was as if there was light in an instant!"

Gu Zhi: "..."
