Chapter 92: Chapter 60: The Glory of the Shop Manager
"Boom!"
Dust flew, weapons clashed.
On the rooftop of the Bronze Tree base, the four of the CCG clashed with the manager.
Though besieged by the four, the manager appeared calm, with Heko on his arms dancing like two blue great swords, forming an impenetrable defense.
After just a few rounds of fierce combat, Hirako Take and Amon were sent flying, collapsing in the distance with their bodies suffering multiple soft tissue injuries.
The manager held back, if he had harbored murderous intent, the two would already be corpses.
"The gap... is too big."
Amon sat dejectedly on the ground, watching the manager who was fighting with Yukinori Shinohara and Black Basalt.
The manager’s strength could not be held back by Yukinori Shinohara and Black Basalt.
After a few more clashes, Yukinori Shinohara and Black Basalt were both sent flying by the manager, rolling on the ground in a sorry state.
With severe pain throughout his body, Shinohara sat up and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
"Apan, use that."
"Are we going all out?"
"Ah Wan told us to hold for five minutes, but it’s less than three minutes now."
Yukinori Shinohara looked directly at Black Basalt.
"Together."
After speaking, the two activated the ’Xin’ on their bodies, letting ’Xin’ transform, making it more akin to a Heko.
The ’Xin’ on their bodies surged, beginning to consume their blood.
After activating ’Xin’s form, it would consume only blood for the first thirty seconds, after which it would go berserk and start biting the user’s flesh.
"Come on, ’Xin’, eat."
A few seconds later, Yukinori Shinohara and Black Basalt stood up, their upper body armor turning blood-red, exuding a mad and ominous aura.
Their speed and strength greatly increased, they dashed towards the manager.
Noticing their change, the manager got serious, silently guessing that this must be a new weapon developed by some of his ’old friends’.
"What a wild feeling."
The Kuingke broadsword in Shinohara’s hand swiftly chopped, coordinated with Black Basalt’s attack, the pair managed to suppress the manager, forcing him to defend only.
However, the good times didn’t last long, not even twenty seconds in, Shinohara couldn’t hold on, staggering back a few steps.
"Shinohara."
Black Basalt pushed the manager back with his Kuingke, running towards Shinohara.
"The performance of ’Xin’ is indeed excellent, but the side effects are too great."
Shinohara had basically lost the combat strength, his upper body bitten in multiple places by the ’Xin’.
Compared to Shinohara, Black Basalt fared slightly better, but his stamina was severely drained, having been devoured by the ’Xin’ for quite a bit of his blood.
"Not good, really not good."
Hirako Take looked grim, with the way things were going, they all would die here.
Beside him, Amon leaned against the wall, eyes filled with reluctance.
"Don’t give up, your saviors have arrived."
Marude Itsuki’s voice came through the Bluetooth earpiece, boosting the spirits of the four on the rooftop.
"Bang."
An iron door at the corner of the rooftop was kicked open from the inside, showing the kicker’s considerable strength, as the door had been bent into a U-shape, with a footprint in the center.
The door clattered down near the manager, who glanced towards the darkened doorway.
A wisp of smoke floated out of the doorway, and a spark could faintly be seen.
"Have the Ghouls of Bronze Tree gone mad, making their base like a maze?"
Su Xiao, a cigarette in his mouth, stepped out from the darkness, onto the rooftop, having rested briefly after a wild sprint, arriving later due to the sounds of battle.
The night wind blew, causing his white windbreaker to flap dramatically.
Flicking the cigarette butt away, Su Xiao exhaled deeply, walking slowly towards the manager.
The manager, unlike his daughter Takatsuki Sen, had much richer combat experience.
However, the manager wasn’t without weaknesses, as it had been years since he last consumed a human.
This would have caused the Rc cell level in the manager’s body to decrease, reducing combat strength.
"You plan to eat that thing."
Su Xiao, holding Dragon Slash in hand, pointed the blade towards the ground.
One of the manager’s arms’ Heko had already been disarmed, holding a large piece of ’Xin’ shard in hand. This was torn off during the fight with Shinohara.
The main material of ’Xin’ was the kakuhou of a SSS-level Ghoul Speaker, so the Rc cell content inside ’Xin’ was thousands, or even tens of thousands times that of human flesh.
"Without eating it, I might not be able to fight you."
While speaking, the shell of the Ghoul Speaker on the manager opened a gaping maw, swallowing that large piece of ’Xin’ shard in one gulp.
Just after the manager swallowed that piece of ’Xin’ shard, Su Xiao had already rushed forward.
Having sprinted too fast on the way, Su Xiao rested for a moment upon reaching the rooftop; otherwise, he would have already been engaged in combat with the manager.
Dragon Slash cleaved through the air with a chilling gleam toward the manager, with faint blue arcs appearing over the surface during the swing.
Su Xiao wouldn’t be careless in battle with the manager, immediately activating Blue Steel Shadow.
The manager raised his arm, and the Heko covering it collided with Dragon Slash.
"Ding." A crisp clash of metal echoed.
The tough Heko was chipped, and Blue Steel Shadow’s energy surged into the manager’s body.
His Rc Cells within were burning, causing him to grunt, but the manager, having fought all his life, wasn’t easily fazed by this intense pain.
"Exquisite swordsmanship, but this level of attack can’t take my life."
While locking Dragon Slash, the arm blade-like Heko on the manager’s other arm thrust towards Su Xiao.
The thrust came at an extremest tricky angle, yet Su Xiao’s reflex was swift, just barely ducking, some strands of black hair fell, showcasing the sharpness of the manager’s Heko.
With a flourish of his saber, Su Xiao unleashed a flurry of slashes, engaging the manager head-on.
If comparing attributes, Su Xiao’s were slightly lower than the manager’s, but his exquisite swordsmanship compensated for that.
"Ding, Ding, Ding..."
The long knife and Heko collided rapidly, with sparks flying as they exchanged dozens of clashes in a very brief period.
On the rooftop, two silhouettes, one tall and one short, were embroiled in battle, with four others observing.
"So strong."
Amon watched the scene before him dazedly, his heart filled with immense turmoil.
The man before him seemed perhaps even younger than him, yet could fight the One-eyed Owl one-on-one, this contrast made Amon’s chest tighten.
"He was transferred from the headquarters to the 24th District as a temporary member of the Zero Squad because of this reason.
You may not have seen Bai Ye driving out ghouls from District 14."
Shinohara sat on the ground, covered in blood, watching the battle intently.
"Shinohara, should I go help?"
Black Basalt, lightly injured, still had some stamina left after experiencing the original state of ’Xin’.
"No, going might affect his battle."
All four fell silent, staying put to continue watching the fight.
Meanwhile, in the command vehicle, Marude Itsuki watched the screen with a smile.
"Certainly, bringing you here was the right choice."
At this thought, Marude Itsuki relaxed back into his seat.
On the rooftop, Su Xiao and the manager’s fight had reached boiling point.
The manager gave Su Xiao a sense of growing stronger with each fight, which wasn’t an illusion, but due to the ’Xin’ he consumed.
The Rc cell content in the manager’s body was skyrocketing, with the shell of the Ghoul Speaker gradually strengthening.
The manager’s height had increased from the original two and a half meters to an astounding three meters, with Heko flashing a blood-red hue.
The manager regained some of his youthful glory, no longer the old man cut down by several First-Class Investigators.
"Bang."
Su Xiao kicked the manager’s side, making him stagger back a few steps, but causing no injury.
The intense battle left Su Xiao somewhat breathless, and the manager was no better, with his arms’ Heko slashed full of nicks and even holes in some places.
"Truly, an excitingly strong enemy."
The prolonged inability to break through didn’t discourage Su Xiao; instead, his war intent burned even brighter. It had been long since he encountered such a formidable foe.
The feeling was different from fighting Nico; this was actual combat, whereas that fight merely dulled.
"Continue."
