Chapter 225: Chapter 35: Small Biscuit

The conference room door was pushed open, and a tall man with his upper body bare, wearing a cloth hood, walked into the room.

The first impression this tall man gave was that he wasn’t easy to get along with. The hood looked menacing, like those worn by interrogation personnel from the Anbu.

Su Xiao recognized the man; his name was Boris. Despite his imposing stature and somewhat creepy hood, Boris was actually a shy, somewhat socially awkward man.

Su Xiao sized up Boris’s physique. How could such a muscular man be shy? Imagining him with both hands cupped shyly on his chest made Su Xiao feel a bit disturbed.

The image was too beautiful to imagine.

Even though he was shy, the position Boris once held was not at all ’shy’.

The Incineration Troop was a terrifying department on par with the Anbu, tasked with burning down villages or towns infected by plague.

The Empire would not send doctors to treat the plague. If a plague broke out somewhere, there was just one word: burn. Houses, humans, livestock, all burned to charcoal.

As part of the Incineration Troop, Boris’s Imperial tool was fire-related: Purgatory Summoning·Lubigend, an Imperial tool akin to a flamethrower that could self-destruct at critical moments.

Boris’s steps were hesitant as he entered the meeting room, seeming a bit shy~.

"Um... you must be Mister Bai Ye. Nice to meet you, I’m Boris."

Boris walked to the conference table.

"Yes, I am."

Awkward silence~.

Boris awkwardly scratched his hood, found a chair, and sat down, looking anxious. Su Xiao’s aura was too sharp, making Boris somewhat nervous.

The meeting room was enveloped in a prolonged deathly silence, with cold sweat appearing under Boris’s hood, as he sat up straight.

In contrast to the silent meeting room, lively footsteps echoed from the hallway outside.

It was a young blue-haired man about twenty years old. His name was Will, also an Imperial Tool User, with an Imperial tool named Asura Incarnation·Noble Chariot, an armor-type Imperial Artifact, similar to Brand’s Ghost Entwining but an upgraded version with better performance.

Will carried a large cloth bag on his back, filled with live fish. Hailing from a naval fishing village at the Empire’s border, he had specially brought along local specialties this time to establish good relations with his colleagues in the Imperial Capital.

Will’s attire was somewhat plain, but he was a justice-minded young man, with a bit of a clownish streak.

"Closer, almost there."

Will looked at the door before him, which was the meeting spot.

Standing at the door, Will couldn’t help but feel a bit apprehensive. Behind the door were his future colleagues, and first impressions mattered. He recalled his elder from the fishing village advising, ’You mustn’t be underestimated, start with a show of force.’

Will took a deep breath, steadied himself, and pushed into the room.

"Hello everyone! I’m from the Imperial Navy..."

Will shouted initially, but his voice trailed off halfway as he saw the solemnly seated Boris.

The terrifying hood of Boris made cold sweat appear on Will’s forehead.

Will stiffly turned his head and saw a pair of icy eyes, causing him to shudder.

"Sorry, wrong room."

Will rapidly spat out the words and immediately retreated outside, closing the door. He collapsed against the wall corner outside.

"This seems like an interrogation room, whew~, too careless."

Will pressed a hand to his chest. The aura in that room was intimidating, especially those cold eyes. Just how many people had been killed for such a gaze?

Will looked up at the room’s sign, then pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, his expression stiffening.

"Could it be... those two are my colleagues??"

Will’s young heart was stimulated, unintentionally exposing his clownish nature.

He quietly opened the door again.

"S-Sorry to disturb."

Will cautiously walked to the seats, just about to pull out a chair.

"Wait."

Su Xiao spoke, freezing Will’s hand.

"Um..."

Will looked dazedly at Su Xiao.

"Your fish."

Su Xiao pointed to the cloth bag at the room’s entrance.

"Sorry!"

Will quickly retrieved the bag of fish, then sat down, placing his hands on his lap, head lowered.

Boris, with the frightening hood, stared at Will, seemingly wanting to speak but hesitated out of shyness.

Boris’s actions frightened Will; his face was drenched in cold sweat.

Su Xiao, with interest, scrutinized the duo.

Will’s legs trembled; he had confidently come to the Imperial Capital, but now he missed home~.

Seeing Will’s comical demeanor, Su Xiao almost wanted to laugh, but being part of the Assassination Squad, he couldn’t laugh.

Will was indeed not weak in strength; he just lacked maturity in handling matters.

The door opened again, this time revealing a beautiful black-haired girl. She wore a black school attire, her elegant hair not needing makeup to display her prettiness, and had a long knife at her waist.

This long knife was called the March of the Dead·Eight Rooms, a knife-shaped Imperial tool that could record eight slain creatures and summon them during battle. Up to eight creatures, humans or animals, could be summoned.

The summoned creatures had immortality, able to continue fighting even if their heads were damaged, turning into ordinary corpses after contact with the Eight Rooms ability.

Although this ability was potent, it carried drawbacks; using the Eight Rooms to summon creatures would temporarily weaken the user’s abilities and quickly deplete stamina.

The current user of the March of the Dead·Eight Rooms was called Black Pupil, the girl standing here.

Black Pupil and Red Eye, how similar their names were, yes, they were sisters, yet their destinies were vastly different.

Red Eye was much luckier than Black Pupil. Black Pupil’s unit subjected her to drug modifications. Now, unless her head was severed or heart crushed, she could continue fighting, though her bodily functions had somewhat collapsed, requiring constant medication to sustain.

Black Pupil’s combat strength was immense; if the Eight Rooms ability was fully unleashed, she could confront the entire Night Raid Team head-on, but due to stamina issues, her endurance was lacking.

Black Pupil’s most distinctive trait was her gluttony and food guarding, currently holding a small bag of snacks in her hand.

Black Pupil wasn’t shy; she sat down and started munching on cookies.

Upon seeing Black Pupil, Will was overjoyed; finally, a normal colleague arrived. He immediately got up to approach Black Pupil.

"H-Hi, I’m Will..."

Before Will finished his sentence, Black Pupil hugged the bag of cookies tightly.

"These snacks won’t be shared with you."

Black Pupil’s tone was firm, glancing warily at Will.

Will was stunned, another irregular girl.

"Sorry to bother..."

Will listlessly returned to his seat.

Black Pupil scanned the room with her dark eyes until she saw Su Xiao.

Black Pupil stood up and sat beside Su Xiao.

"You fought my sister, right? Her name is Red Eye; she looks a bit like me but with red eyes."

Black Pupil clutched the cookie bag, picking up a piece and munching.

"Oh, I fought her."

Black Pupil’s eyes flashed.

"So... did you kill her?"

Since they weren’t in the same Assassination Squad, Black Pupil only knew the outline of last night’s events.

"Missed by a few centimeters."

Su Xiao’s answer puzzled Black Pupil.

"Here, tell me what happened last night, and you can have this."

Black Pupil offered a piece of cookie, seemingly making a big decision.
