Chapter 107: Chapter 75: The Well

After running at full speed for ten minutes, Su Xiao stopped.

There was a deathly silence behind them, and the fact that Blood Eye hadn’t pursued was undoubtedly good news. However, the reinforcements team had dwindled from the initial twenty-seven to only three.

Su Xiao, Maniwa Haruo, Shuuzou Suzuya.

Su Xiao leaned against a wall, gasping for breath. Maniwa Haruo was slumped on the ground nearby, occasionally vomiting bile, having run herself to exhaustion.

"What was ~, that thing, a ghoul? Does such a terrifying ghoul really exist in the world? Even the One-eyed Owl would be swallowed whole by it."

Her golden hair was disheveled, plastered to her face by sweat. Her chest heaved violently, looking like someone who’d just come back from a ’hehehe’ moment.

"Cough cough cough... "

Suzuya was leaning with one hand against the wall, coughing as if trying to hack up a lung.

"Plop."

Su Xiao lit a cigarette and leaned against the fleshy wall.

"I finally understand why Arima ran away before."

Blowing out a puff of smoke, a smile appeared on Su Xiao’s face. This life-and-death feeling was too thrilling; just now when Blood Eye was devouring, he almost had his head bitten off.

Maniwa Haruo looked somewhat speechless; was this a normal person’s reaction? Her gaze turned to Suzuya.

Suzuya’s curled lips made Maniwa Haruo doubt everything—was it her who was abnormal, or her two teammates?

After resting for a bit, Su Xiao stood up, leading Maniwa Haruo and Suzuya onward.

The reinforcements sent by CCG headquarters were thirty, but only three had actual combat effectiveness: Su Xiao, Shuuzou Suzuya, Black Basalt.

Now that Black Basalt was dead, only Su Xiao and Shuuzou Suzuya remained.

Su Xiao had long foreseen this level of casualty rate, with Blood Eye’s appearance merely accelerating the rate of death and injury.

After traveling for more than an hour, the trio reached a dead end.

Su Xiao took out a mini computer to check, Arima Kishou was very close to him, at most half an hour’s journey away.

He had delved deep into the 24th District, and the scope of Tokyo wasn’t large; now he was in the center position underground in Tokyo.

"Haruo, can you still find the way?"

Maniwa Haruo was now acting as a living map; her memory was exceptional, barely needing markers in the passage to discern if they’d been there before.

"Maybe it’s this one, or maybe it’s this one."

Maniwa Haruo bit a pen, looking worried.

"You pick."

Su Xiao wouldn’t lead the way anymore, the lessons from the last venture into the 24th District were still vivid.

"Then this one."

After Maniwa Haruo chose the route, the three continued forward. Su Xiao quickly discovered this passage was narrowing.

In other areas of the 24th District, the narrowest passages were about two meters wide and at least four meters high.

But the passage he was in was only one meter wide and two meters high, with utter darkness ahead requiring a strong flashlight to illuminate.

If it were a timid person, they definitely wouldn’t dare enter such a passage deep underground.

Su Xiao and Suzuya were calm, but Maniwa Haruo, positioned in the middle, was somewhat nervous.

After advancing several dozen meters, a faint light source appeared ahead, more like electric lights than sunlight.

Su Xiao reached the end of the passage, and the scene before his eyes caused his pupils to contract sharply.

"Bai Ye level, what’s in front, are you kidding me!"

Maniwa Haruo peeked over, seeing everything before her, and was stunned.

"I finally understand why there are so many ghouls in the 24th District. This is the underground city of ghouls." Maniwa Haruo murmured.

What unfolded before Su Xiao was a vast city.

A layer of earth underground had been hollowed out, forming a large city.

The buildings in the city were somewhat dilapidated, mostly metallic structures, standing unevenly in the underground space.

Su Xiao’s location was one of the entrances to the underground city. Looking down, he was about ten meters above the city’s ground level.

There were dozens of entrances in the city, like several holes dug into an iron plate, with the plate standing upright before the underground city.

"This place is incredible, with a place like this, ghouls can never be fully eradicated."

While Maniwa Haruo was gazing at the underground city, Su Xiao pulled her back into the passage, gesturing for silence.

Upon closer look at the buildings within the underground city, Primitive Ghouls could be seen moving between structures, along with Eyeless Eaters.

The two types of ghouls roamed the underground city like guards.

Because of this, ordinary ghouls in the 24th District were desperately fleeing outward, without much war intent. Their homes had been taken, and the ghouls were escaping for survival.

The bodies of ordinary ghouls could vaguely be seen within the underground city, mostly elders and children, few of prime age.

Ghouls had emotions too; if most of the casualties were the elderly and young, it suggested that the Primitive Ghouls’ attack was very sudden.

The mystery of the 24th District was gradually being unveiled, and Su Xiao’s understanding was growing.

Primitive Ghouls and ordinary ghouls were adversaries, or rather the Primitive Ghouls lacked rationality, attacking all living beings aside from their own kind.

The Eyeless Eaters and Primitive Ghouls were likely of the same source, with no indication of mutual aggression; Su Xiao even observed them feeding on a corpse together.

Their relationship was unmistakably closer than that of mere ’wild beasts’ sharing food in ignorance.

"What’s that over there?"

Maniwa Haruo pointed to the top of a steel building, where a humanoid figure was crouched.

Su Xiao focused his gaze—white hair, a somewhat disheveled white battle suit, blood-stained Quinque boxes—Arima Kishou!

After delving into the 24th District for hours, with the reinforcements team nearly wiped out, Su Xiao finally found the person he was to support.

Arima Kishou’s situation was not good; although he didn’t appear seriously injured, he was trapped on the rooftop.

Su Xiao retrieved a wrench from his storage space, obtained when he accessed the Queen’s Scarlet Card.

He tossed the wrench far away with a deft swing of his waist.

"Clang."

The wrench clattered onto a distant metal structure, alerting some Primitive Ghouls and Eyeless Eaters, who quickly ran towards the sound.

Lying on the rooftop, Arima Kishou lifted his head, looking towards the source of the sound.

Soon, Arima Kishou turned his gaze to where Su Xiao was.

Unlike beasts that are attracted merely by the sound, humans instinctively seek the cause of the noise.

As their eyes met, Su Xiao made a gesture for Arima Kishou to come near the passage.

Arima Kishou shook his head, pointing towards the center of the underground city, then towards Su Xiao.

"What’s Special Class Arima’s meaning?"

Maniwa Haruo didn’t comprehend Arima Kishou’s intent, but Su Xiao did. The two had some tacit understanding, given their life-and-death battles together.

"You two wait here on standby; if there’s danger, retreat first."

After speaking, Su Xiao climbed out of the passage, utilizing the dozens of entrance holes to climb down.

He moved lightly, making no sound, quickly descending to jump onto the rooftop of a steel building.

Su Xiao lay flat on the rooftop, a few Primitive Ghouls nearby.

Like an agile monkey, he vaulted silently across the rooftops of the metal structures.

After nearly ten minutes, Su Xiao reached Arima Kishou’s rooftop, without any mishaps.

"Give me some food and fresh water, I’m virtually parched."

Once Su Xiao handed over the food and water, Arima Kishou quickly wolfed down the food and guzzled an entire bottle of water.

"What’s the current situation?"

Arima Kishou quietly inquired, surveying their surroundings.

"We need to lure these ’Primitive Species’ to the city’s center, then get them into the ’Well’ and seal the ’Well’ entrance."

"The Well?"

Su Xiao looked at Arima Kishou in astonishment; what on earth was this ’Well’?
