Chapter 102 - 70: The Face of CCG

Chapter 102: Chapter 70: The Face of CCG

A large group of ghouls lunged forward. If it had been before taking the "Human Gene Enhancement Liquid", Su Xiao would find it somewhat challenging to deal with these ghouls.

But now it’s different. His stamina attribute increased from the original 6 points to 10 points, significantly boosting his endurance.

"They’re coming, prepare for combat."

Fashi Xiang Jie shouted, and the other investigators drew their respective Kuingke weapons.

"Are you really sure about this, Special Agent Bai Ye?"

Fashi Xiang Jie felt uncertain and asked softly.

"No problem."

Su Xiao stood at the front of the group, calmly looking at the ghouls before him.

The ghouls appeared haggard, some even injured, with others suffering from severe wounds like broken arms and blinded eyes.

The injuries on these ghouls made it clear that the 24th District now poses a danger even to ordinary ghouls. It seems that the Primitive Species ghouls and ordinary ghouls are not the same kind, as they engage in mutual slaughter.

Where exactly do these Primitive Species ghouls come from? There must be some hidden truth.

Understanding the secrets within the Derivative Worlds often means gaining a large amount of World Source.

The World Source represents attribute points during the settlement of the Derivative World.

Therefore, Su Xiao is very interested in the origins of those Primitive Species ghouls.

This is not the time to ponder these things; it’s better to repel the ghouls in front of us first.

As for the idea of annihilating all these ghouls, he never considered it. In this narrow passage, ghouls will flee when the casualties reach a certain extent, unless they launch an active attack.

"Brothers, carve a bloody path. Once we reach the surface, we’ll be safe. The surface is full of ’food’, no need to heed the ’King’s’ command."

"Kill all these investigators!"

Ferocious expressions covered the ghouls’ faces as they rushed forward, getting closer to Su Xiao, ten meters, five meters, three meters away.

The cold gleam of a blade flashed, and several ghouls at the front fell instantly, their blood splattering on the passage’s walls.

A dozen or so investigators pulled out long-range weapons to cover Su Xiao, among them Fashi Xiang Jie had the strongest firepower, wielding an arm-thick cannon barrel known as ’Hollow Cavity’, an S-Level Kuingke created from Uechi’s, capable of firing an orange-yellow crystal that explodes.

The brutal battle began, with the ghouls trying to break out of the 24th District and investigators aiming to block them.

...

In Zone 1, CCG headquarters, in a room with Japanese styling.

The wooden paper door slid open, and a solemn-faced middle-aged man walked in.

The middle-aged man wore a white suit, with black hair that could cover his ears. From his demeanor, it was clear that he had long held a high position.

The middle-aged man was Washuu Itsuki, the CCG Director, with significant power within CCG.

After entering the room, Washuu Itsuki tightly closed the sliding door and knelt before an elder.

"Father, the checkpoints deep within the 24th District have been destroyed. Those Primitive Species have emerged; I’ve already sent Arima Kishou to handle it."

On the tatami in the inner part of the room, an elder sat majestically.

The elder had a withered appearance, wore a classical black kimono, and had white hair and beard.

The elder was named Washuu Yoshimitsu, the CCG Chairman, holding authority above Washuu Itsuki. General CCG affairs were handled by Washuu Itsuki, but important matters required this Chairman’s approval.

Chairman Washuu Yoshimitsu opened his eyes. Those dim eyes exuded authority and a sternness.

"What did the others from V say?"

As Chairman Washuu Yoshimitsu spoke, Washuu Itsuki kept his head down, looking very respectful.

"The other elders want to find a way to clean up those Primitive Species, after all, they are merely failures."

"Nonsense!"

Washuu Yoshimitsu’s hair and beard bristled, and a chilling light appeared in his dim eyes.

"Do those guys not have brains, or are they just eroded by Rc Cells? The Primitive Species, though irrational, are indirectly guarding the ’Source’. Without the ’Source’, we will soon face extinction. Find a way to drive the Primitive Species back to the deepest underground, they can be killed, but not in large numbers."

Washuu Yoshimitsu coldly stared at Washuu Itsuki, as if Washuu Itsuki wasn’t his son, just a subordinate.

"And what of the investigators’ casualties?"

Washuu Itsuki tentatively asked.

"As long as they’re not wiped out, it’s fine. The human base is large enough. With some training and indoctrination, there will be a new batch of investigators."

In just a few words, Washuu Yoshimitsu’s coldness and harshness became apparent. This old man cared little about the lives of investigators.

"I understand, father. Take care, I shall take my leave."

Washuu Itsuki kept his eyes down, pondering internally.

"Wait."

Washuu Yoshimitsu suddenly spoke.

"Has Yoshimura Yoshiyasu shown up recently?"

Mentioning Yoshimura Yoshiyasu brought a slight ripple to the Chairman Washuu Yoshimitsu’s otherwise indifferent tone.

"Yes, father, the Cleaner has appeared with unclear intentions, seemingly aiding the Bronze Tree, yet some actions didn’t align."

Hearing his son’s answer, Washuu Yoshimitsu sneered.

"He’s old too, actually repelled by a new quasi-special investigator. Yoshimura Yoshiyasu was once our Cleaner; he knows too many secrets. Since he dares show up again, he should be eliminated."

Hearing his father’s words, Washuu Itsuki’s face changed drastically, and he urgently said, "Father, the Cleaner did serve us under V, he..."

"Shut up, get out, and execute my orders."

Washuu Yoshimitsu’s face was stern as he coldly looked at his son. At this moment, if Washuu Itsuki dared speak again, the consequences would be severe.

Washuu Itsuki’s face changed multiple times before he could only retreat in a low voice.

The room was left with only Washuu Yoshimitsu. This cold-hearted ruler picked up a stack of documents, seemingly contemplating something.

"A Quasi-Special Investigator, the orphan of a former investigator, a decent pawn, let’s use him to deal with Yoshimura Yoshiyasu. Even if it fails, there’s no real loss. They’re just humans."

Washuu Yoshimitsu put down the documents and closed his eyes in meditation. The photo on the data clearly showed Su Xiao.

...

In the underground passageway of the 24th District.

Su Xiao was holding a bucket of self-heating noodles, enjoying his meal without a care for the surrounding bloody smell or the pile of corpses he sat upon.

Just as he expected, after over a third of the more than two hundred ghouls were killed or injured, a rout began.

After leaving many corpses behind, the ghouls were driven back.

The other dozen or so investigators also held instant noodles, but apart from Fashi Xiang Jie, everyone else’s faces didn’t look too good.

Long Ze Zheng Dao even gagged repeatedly, spilling half of his noodles.

With the possibility of combat occurring at any time, it’s crucial to eat quickly and fill up. With combat supplies not yet delivered, instant noodles had to suffice.

While Su Xiao was eating, the phone in his jacket pocket rang. This phone was issued by the CCG, and all investigators were required to carry it.

He took out the phone and saw that the number was marked with a name: Washuu Itsuki, the CCG Director.

"This is Bai Ye Senior Investigator speaking, hello Director."

Su Xiao was now an investigator for the CCG, so he had to maintain appearances.

"Special Agent Bai Ye, how is the situation at the entrance of the 24th District?"

Washuu Itsuki’s voice came through the phone, marking Su Xiao’s first contact with CCG higher-ups.

"There’s no immediate danger of being breached, but it won’t be long before it is. We need a large amount of reinforcements here."

While killing ghouls could earn a substantial amount of CCG Contribution Value, Su Xiao wasn’t willing to risk his life for CCG without benefits. If the incoming ghouls exceed three hundred, he would immediately submit the mainline quest (2) and then escape.

The situation was clear: the 24th District was highly dangerous. Without benefits, Su Xiao wouldn’t take the risk, so he immediately called for reinforcements.

"I’ve already dispatched reinforcements, at least more than two hundred, with more to follow after.

Special Agent Bai Ye, let others handle the guarding of the exit. I have other tasks for you."

Hearing Washuu Itsuki’s words, Su Xiao’s lips curled up. He sensed the presence of prey.
