REINCARNATION OF THE STRONGEST WAR HERO -
Chapter 138: WHISPERS IN DELICIA
Chapter 138: WHISPERS IN DELICIA
A few blocks away from the hunters guild there was a tavern named ’Delicia’. And it was famous for the quality and taste of foods. Though the hall inside the hunter’s guild also provided food, those who had a knack for taste instead of just filling belly would come here.
At this moment the tavern was buzzing with chattering, clinks of mugs, laughter and what not. Warm food sizzled from the kitchen and the scent of roasted meat mixed with freshly baked bread filled the air.
In the middle of it all moved a girl.
She looked sixteen, maybe seventeen, dressed in a plain brown skirt and a cream-colored apron. Her long brown hair was tied loosely behind her neck, and she carried a tray, dodging drunks and weaving through crowded tables in a harmony.
Despite the noise, her smile was gentle. She bowed politely with every order served. Her name tag read simply: Sylvie.
At one corner of the room, a group of commoners were gossiping among themselves.
"Did any of you go to the hunter test today? I heard a twelve-year-old kid defeated a C-class hunter. Damn! I wish I was there."
"No way! A kid?!"
"No it’s true. But that’s not the only interesting thing that happened today. You all have heard about the heir from branch royal family, right?"
"You mean that Lucas guy?"
"Yes. He wanted to show off but lost like a loser. He was pinned down in the ground like a kid being punished for theft."
"Bwahahaha" they all burst into laughter.
"Serves him right. All these spoiled royal and noble brats think they are high and mighty. They should be shown reality now and then a bit."
With that another round of laughter erupted.
But just then their voices dropped as the door creaked open and 11 or 12 new people entered the tavern. In the front it was Leonard. He was a well known figure around here. Party leader of one of the best hunter party. He was strong as hell and a brave soul as well. He was a Tier 5 mage with two affinities and a A-class after all. The only problem was his charecter. He was too competitive and greedy for loots from the dungeons, which had turned him into a wicked person. A slightly behind him was Luca, Lucas Hale, Leonard’s newest party member. Pride was clear in Leonard’s face for successfully recruiting Lucas. Because he wasn’t just talented, he was royalty. So what if he was from the branch family and lost miserably today. And behid both of them were the rest of the party members.
"Shit, I couldn’t even finish by cursing that demon’s name—and now he’s here. He didn’t hear us out, right?" One of the guys in the laughing group muttered. His earlier liveliness vanished. Lucas was from the Royal family after all. And any disrespect would bring consequences.
"I hope not." The person behind him whispered.
Leonard looked around. Then signalled toward Sylvie who was busy serving foods. Sylvie noticed it and quickly walked over to them.
"Good sirs, how may I help you?" she asked with a bow.
"There are eleven of us. So we’ll need a large seating arrangement—or you could just join two tables together," Leonard said.
"Sure. Just give me a few moments," she replied, then walked toward the window side where three empty tables were placed side by side. She raised her hand toward her coworker.
"Jacob, come here."
A boy around 17 or 18 years old, who was also serving food like Sylvie, heard her call and walked over.
"Jacob, join these two tables together. The customers who just arrived want to sit as a group," Sylvie said.
"Okay," Jacob nodded and quickly pushed the two tables together. Sylvie then gestured politely, inviting Leonard and his group to sit.
Leonard led his entire group to the seats. As they settled down, he said,
"Lucas, it’s nothing to feel down about. All the hunters here are skilled and have gone through a lot. Losing to your opponent wasn’t such a big deal." Leonard tried to comfort him.
"No. If that kid could do it, then I should have been able to as well."
Lucas snapped, frustration burning in his eyes.
Logan’s match flashed before Leonard’s eyes. "Yes, that mid sure was a freak. Maybe we should invite him to our party as well." He whispered.
But Lucas heard it loud and clear. "Oh! So you think too that he is stronger than me." Lucas’s already fouled mood worsened even more.
"What?!" Just then Leonard realised that his tongue had slipped. He said something which he shouldn’t have.
He was already aware about Lucas’s vengeful attitude. On outside he pretends to be a calm, composed gentleman. But his inside was rotten. Jealousy for his cousin Rowan Hale, anger toward the main Hale family, lust for more power, these all had turned his charecter into something more wicked that even Leonard was cautious about. He and Lucas was a perfect combo. And he wanted always to be in good side.
He quickly explained, " no no no Lucas. You got me all wrong. What I wanted to say was if we recruit him in our team, then we can exploit his talent. That’s all. How can he be compared to you? He isn’t worthy." Leonard laughed awkwardly.
"Hmph." Lucas sneered.
Just when all had started gossiping again, and even Leonard had started discussing about their next raid plan...
The wooden door of the tavern creaked open again. Nobody bothered.
Logan stepped inside in his unhurried steps.
And that totally changed the environment. All eyes turned toward him. Leonard’s group wasn’t an exception either.
Logan kept his hood on, the shadow partially covering his face which already had a mask on it. But it didn’t stop the stares.
His existence had turned into a hot topic for discussion, even if no one knew his real identity or how he looked.
The whispers began.
"Who is that kid walking alone here?"
Someone asked.
"That’s the kid. The one who defeated a C-class hunter."
