REINCARNATION OF THE STRONGEST WAR HERO -
Chapter 129: THE WARMTH BEFORE THE STORM
Chapter 129: THE WARMTH BEFORE THE STORM
Silence had enveloped Alice’s room. But it wasn’t suffocating. It was full of warmth, disbelief, and unspoken joy.
Rudeous stared at the boy, his mouth slightly parted, eyes struggling to accept what they were seeing.
"Logan..." he repeated with a softer voice.
"Yes, Father," Logan replied, stepping forward.
A storm of emotions flickered in Rudeous’s eyes—shock, relief, confusion, guilt. And finally... pride. But unlike Alice, he didn’t rush forward or let his emotions overtake him. Instead, he closed his eyes, took a long breath, and nodded slowly.
"You’re really alive," Rudeous said. He tried to act tough but the slight tenderness in his voice betrayed his effort. "Thank God! We almost thought you were....." he couldn’t finish his sentence.
Logan smiled faintly. "Sorry for worrying you too."
Rudeous walked toward him and placed a firm hand on Logan’s shoulder. "You’re my son. I never stopped hoping. And my words aren’t enough to express how happy I am. But... what actually happened? How are you standing here now? Mr. John from the court mage came himself to deliver the news."
"You mean the head judge from the tournament?" Logan asked with confusion.
"Yes." Rudeous replied.
Logan sank into deep thoughts. Then suddenly something clicked in his mind. The two mages from the court mage back then...during the ambush....who suddenly appeared out of nowhere. "So it was Mr. John who sent them for help. I will have to visit him someday and say sorry." Logan thought.
Then he looked up at Rudeous again, and without wasting time, he continued calmly, laying out everything...how he got ambushed and was captured, how he fell from the cliff, how he survived by luck, his need for secrecy, even his cultivation method, the danger it posed if it fell into the wrong hands. He explained why he had to leave again and what he hoped to achieve.
He shared about his cultivation secret because without explaining, it would be difficult to convince Rudeous. And to ensure his mother’s safety when he wasn’t around, he needed to warn Rudeous about the future as well.
Rudeous listened without interrupting. His brows narrowed slightly when Logan had told him about the cultivation technique. He always had a hunch. Logan’s strength, his uniqueness, his progress even after having his mana core sealed, none of them ever made sense. But he didn’t pry. All he wanted was results. Seeing Logan’s eyes, he could tell that Logan wouldn’t do something evil. So he always turned a blind eye. But now the revelation totally shocked him.
When Logan finished, the silence returned again. It felt a bit heavy this time. All that happened, Logan’s secret and his plan for future, all of it was hard to swallow at a single moment.
Then, Rudeous spoke. "You’ve thought this through well. I can see it in your eyes. This isn’t a rash decision." He turned to look at the moon above. "Alice follows her heart. I follow reason. And reason tells me... that your path, as dangerous as it is, might be the safest option in the long run."
Logan was quiet.
"But I won’t pretend I’m happy," Rudeous added. "You’re my son. Make sure you come back safe. It’s not just your mother who will be waiting." Over the last few years, Rudeous had changed a lot.
Logan lowered his head slightly being grateful. "Thank you, Father. And about the cultivation technique, I can teach you ab..."
Rudeous interrupted him raising a hand. "If the situation really is as dangerous as you say, then me learning the technique can wait. You should take some rest, eat something before you leave and change your clothes as well."
Alice nodded from the side.
But Rudeous then remembered something. "There is one more thing you should know before you leave."
Logan raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"Prince Rowan and Princess Daliah are here. They arrived this morning. I told them to rest in the west wing," Rudeous said. "They don’t know yet. About you."
Logan blinked. "They’re... here?"
Rudeous nodded. "If you’re leaving again, perhaps... you should see them once. The girl was really devastated when she heard about you. And not knowing the truth may affect her emotionally."
Logan took a breath. He didn’t expect to meet anyone else tonight—but something inside him told him he should. "Yes. I should."
Rudeous gestured. "Come. I’ll take you to them."
The west wing of the villa was quiet. A few dim lanterns lit the corridor as Logan followed Rudeous silently. No one was present in this area at the moment.
When they reached the guest room door, Rudeous knocked once.
"Come in," Rowan’s voice called from inside.
Rudeous opened the door and stepped aside.
Rowan stood near the window, while Daliah was seated on the couch, flipping through a book. Both looked up casually. But....
then their eyes widened in unison....
The book slipped from Daliah’s hands.
Rowan’s jaw tightened. "Logan! You....!"
Rowan was always a cool headed person. Other’s fear for his perception wasn’t just for show. But Logan’s death’s news had really shaken him. His head couldn’t process about anything anymore. That’s why the news of Logan’s death didn’t create any doubt in his mind about its authenticity. That’s why now seeing Logan, he was totally dumbfounded. But more than that....
Relief and happiness flooded his heart.
"Logan!" Daliah shouted, standing up so fast she nearly tripped. Her eyes instantly welled up. "You... You’re alive?!"
Logan offered a soft smile. "Told you I wouldn’t die so easily."
Rowan stepped forward, almost hesitating, then reached out and pulled Logan into a firm embrace. "You idiot... You scared the hell out of us."
Logan chuckled, returning the hug. "I’m sorry, Rowan. Truly."
Daliah also wanted to rush forward and threw her arms around Logan, burying her shyness held her back from making such a bold move.
Nothing could control her tears though.
"I was so worried. It felt like....." she sobbed and failed to finish her sentence.
"I know. I’m really sorry for worrying you guys that much." Logan said with a smile.
The room was filled with warmth and joy.
After a while, Logan guided them to sit.
"I don’t have much time," he then explained his plan. Rowan already knew about the danger and Logan’s intention. So it didn’t come as a shock. But Daliah’s heart still felt heavy with tension.
Logan continued, " And I need you to keep practicing. Keep growing." He wrote something in a paper and handed it to Rowan. "This is the Void Soul Sutra. Once you have finally developed your dantian, follow these instructions and you can easily form your meridians. After that you can continue with the Void soul Sutra."
Rowan’s eyes shone with unspoken emotion. "Thank you very much Logan. Even in this dire situation you still thought about us."
"Come on now Rowan. Don’t make it so formal. I had already promised you. But I have one request." Logan said.
"What is it?" Rowan asked without any hint of hesitation.
"When You have time, can you teach it to my father as well? I won’t be here and I need to be sure about my mom. So the stronger my father becomes, the more I can do my things in relax." Logan explained.
"Do you even have to ask? Consider it done." Rowan showed a thumbs up.
Daliah wiped her eyes and added from the side. "You better keep your promise too. Come back. Alive."
"I will," Logan replied, locking eyes with them both.
After that he ate some foods, savouring the warmth of the moment. Alice was already there with it. Alice fed him with her own hands.
After that Logan soon changed into a new pair of clothes and was ready to leave.
He didn’t leave through the main door but exited through the back entrance of the villa, ready to depart quickly. Behind him, four people were standing—Rudeous, Alice, Rowan, and Daliah.
With a final smile on his face, Logan looked back at them and waved before disappearing into the darkness.
Alice’s eyes were soaked with tears, but Rudeous gently pulled her into his arms and comforted her, "Don’t worry. Nothing will happen to him."
Rowan and Daliah both kept staring at the spot where Logan had vanished.
After standing there for a long while in silence, they finally turned around and went back inside.
At the same time in Third Eye Sect....
An old man was kneeling in front of a young man.
The old man was none other than Lucas, the sect master of the Third Eye Sect.
"Master, the boy is dead. I am truly sorry for such a failure. Please punish me." He had his forehead pressed to the ground, not daring to lift his head.
There was pin-drop silence.
Then the young man’s voice finally echoed.
"He isn’t."
"What?!" Lucas was stunned.
"He wants to play hunter-hunter. Looks like the time for me to step into the outside world has come again."
With that, he burst into maniacal laughter.
"Hahahaha!"
