REINCARNATION OF THE STRONGEST WAR HERO -
Chapter 123: THE FALL
Chapter 123: THE FALL
The three attackers were carefully climbing the mountain, dragging Logan behind them step by step.
The mountain wasn’t very steep, but the path they had chosen was extremely narrow.
The leader was at the front, followed by the air mage who was pulling Logan, and at the very back was the fire mage.
Logan was moving with a tired, broken body—but his mind was still sharp, like a vulture circling above its prey.
He was waiting...
Waiting for the perfect chance to strike and escape.
And then the moment finally came....
The fire mage who was walking at the back slipped slightly on a steep ledge. Logan didn’t miss the beat. The air mage who was walking in front of him also started adjusting his grip on his blades right at that exact moment.
"That’s it. It’s now or never."
Logan sprang into action as internal energy flared through his muscles. His arms tensed and with a violent jerk as he tore the bindings apart.
"What—?!" The fire mage walking at the back noticed it.
But before he could even make a sound, Logan lunged at him and slammed his fist with full force at his chest. His fist pierced through his chest and burst out from the back, spraying blood like a fountain.
Though Logan tried his best to do it silently, the muffled sound from the fire mage’s mouth still alerted the other two.
Both the air mage and the leader quickly turned around to look back and the scene totally dumbfounded them.
But before the air mage could even process what he just saw, a tightened fist was already in front of him....just a hair’s breadth away.
He panicked not knowing what to do in that instant.
Logan didn’t want to give them any chance to recollect themselves and think. He had already hurled another punch at the air mage....
But...
Clank!
Something was amiss. The outcome wasn’t what he expected. His fist actually landed on a shadow slab formed out of thin air.
"Damn it!" He whispered.
The leader had already reacted and somehow conjured a shadow barrier at the last moment to protect his comrade. But the impact was still forceful. The air mage staggered back and fell down on the ground, his butt hitting the ground with a thud.
"Don’t let him escape! We must bring him alive." The leader panicked. Not because he was afraid but because he was worried, Logan would escape.
They couldn’t cast heavy offensive spells at the moment, as they were all standing on a narrow mountain trail, and they were too close to each other. One spell misfire, and they’d all fall.
So the leader lunged at Logan. The air mage got up fast and followed his leader.
Both of them tried to overpower Logan by attacking together. Although they had no idea how the fire mage ended up in such a state, they assumed that since Logan’s mana was still sealed, they could easily subdue him.
But they soon realized how wrong they were.
Logan dodged their strike and slammed his fist into the air mage. The impact sent him flying backward, and he nearly fell off the mountain. But the leader quickly used his shadow magic to create tendrils that grabbed the air mage and pulled him back.
He was completely stunned by Logan’s strength—but there was no time to stay amazed.
Even though casting heavy spells was risky, he had no trouble using gravity and shadow magic.
Shadow tentacles burst out from his palm and shot toward Logan, aiming to subdue him.
Logan leaped back to dodge, but just then.....
his foot accidentally landed right at the edge of the mountain and....
Crrshhh....
the ground beneath him crumbled.
He lost his balance due to it and started slipping down.
Both the leader and the air mage felt their hearts race.
They couldn’t let Logan die.
If he did, they’d have to pay a heavy price.
The air mage immediately lunged toward him.
"Brat—!!" the air mage shouted while trying to grab Logan’s hand.
But his fingers grazed nothing.
Logan tried to grab something and stop himself from falling but his fingers only brushed the air as he kept going down
"Shit! What should I do?" Logan cursed.
He struggled to grab something but no use. And soon, he vanished from sight.
The leader shot shadow tendrils to grab hold of him, but alas!
He failed as well. He stood frozen at the edge, staring down into the fog below.
His face darkened. "...Damn it."
The air mage whispered, "There’s no way he would survive that." He slowly stood up.
The leader didn’t answer. His jaw was clenched as his eyes kept scanning the fog below.
A complete silence enveloped them both.
No one moved for a long time.
Just the wind and the faint rustle of trees.
Then after a long time, the leader finally broke the silence while turning around. " Let’s go. He is gone. There’s nothing else we can do."
Both of them started walking toward their destination, retreating with grim expressions.
At the same time in Smith family...
It was already late at night, and almost everyone was fast asleep.
But suddenly, someone jolted awake and sat up straight. Beads of sweat were trickling down her forehead.
It was Alice.
She hadn’t seen a nightmare—yet her heart felt heavy, as if something terrible was about to happen... or maybe had already happened.
She looked out through the window into the night.
"Logan... please be safe, honey. Please," she murmured.
At the same time in a different place....
It was a grand, luxurious building adorned with elegant carvings and glowing crystal lamps.
In one of its rooms, a middle-aged man in his sixties was sitting at a polished desk, quietly writing under the soft light of a floating orb.
Suddenly, there was a knock.
The man looked up and said, "Get in."
A young man, around 28 or 30, burst in with a panicked expression and said urgently,
"It’s bad news, Mr. John. Both Daniel and Marvin are dead."
"What?!"
