Reincarnated into a Snow Griffin -
Chapter 46
Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Perhaps it is because of the festival thing that the place is so lively, but even though I’ve seen many Alars in the city up above most there were only coming and going, mere travelers seeking something and moving out when they found it, fast as birds and as fleeing.
But here, where everybody walked on foot, things moved so... slow. There is no cutting wind to make your eyes dry and carry the words away, they could casually talk and walk, looking around and stopping once in a while, surrounded by small houses of a maximum of two floors each, wooden structures that seemed fragile compared to the towering buildings I’ve known, with multiple entrances as they could use the sky roads too.
Here, even though there are some verandas here and there on the upper floor, only those inside the rooms could access them it seems, especially since the skies ate taken by the festival lines crisscrossing the buildings, hosting red paper lanterns with them.
Everything is new and odd, even the road they made of smooth cobblestone, far more advance than the ones up above at the nest since here they are worn out and smooth, being constantly hit by the steps of people coming and going.
I stop at the entrance even before my feet hits that odd road, looking up at the main road beyond the stone stairs and the red ornamented gate, trying to take all that information at once, but only the smells alone are enough to overflow my senses, much less all of this at once.
"Come on, let’s go have some fun!" And to my surprise the little devil grabs my hand and pulls my hesitating self with him up the stairs, only slowing down once we are right in the middle of it all, thickening crowds and cheerful people around, full of colors that fill my eyesight.
Most are wearing layered clothes like us, with long sleeves and flowing cloth, colorful and with the most different patterns, from straight up lines to flowers and leaves, framed portraits on their own, and yet to add to the show of tints there are the masks they are all wearing matching, most resembling animals like foxes, rabbits and crows, but some are shaped as oddly human faces, some sad, some smiling, and some very angry with thick eyebrows and strong painting.
"Here!" The little devil, using the fact that I was distracted by looking at everything, went to the shop to the side and bought a few things already, such as a paper blue umbrella and some warped up bread in a triangular shape with some fillings inside that are oozing a warm fresh tasty smell.
"...An umbrella?" Is not raining nor is sunny, it is actually the beginning of the night, so I don’t understand it.
"Oh, it matches your outfit, we like to use it in festivals, makes everything more colorful you see." He says after taking a bite of his juicy treat, making me want one too but stop myself from rushing towards the treat he is giving me, and actually taking some time before deciding to bite into it as I observe that there are truly quite a lot of people holding umbrellas around, with flashy patterns from red to blue and orange, and not even the tasty fresh baked treat manages to take me away from the colorful carnival as my eyes reflect the light of the lanters above.
And indeed the umbrellas cut quite the image, very fitting for the festival, so I end up trying it out too, opening the paper umbrella and finding out that not only it has ornaments swinging from its tips but the insides have a blue sky painted in, with a few white clouds here and there, making me somewhat bewildered by the image since it cared some sort of... nostalgic feeling to it.
"I figure it matched you, this umbrella." He says again, but this time with more significance to his words, so I just hum a response back and finally take a bite of the treat, having to blink paradise away as I look down with new eyes to the food.
"What is this?" I cannot help but ask, which makes the little devil chuckle.
"A real treat right? Haha, come on, there is much more to see!" This time, as my hands are occupied, he ends up passing his arm around mine as I hold the umbrella up, and because of it we end up sharing the cover and staying far too close from each other, but as if sensing that stalling will get me to move away and complain he just advances while talking, bringing my attention to the bright colorful festival around us.
And I’m ashamed to say it works.
