Chapter 69: I’m waiting for my boyfriend

After arriving at the club, Gao Jing’s stomach actually felt uncomfortable. He seemed to have eaten too messily at the western restaurant earlier, devouring hot and cold foods at the same time.

"I think I ate too much," he groaned. "That steak was half ice and half lava."

"I really shouldn’t have chased that tiramisu with ice-cold cola," he muttered, a bit green around the gills.

Earlier at the Western restaurant, he’d mixed hot and cold food with the reckless abandon of someone who thought stomachs were indestructible.

Lu Qingyan blinked up at him innocently. "You ordered ice cream and soup, what did you expect?"

"I expected to be happy," he replied with a wince. "Instead, I’m dying. Xiao Yan, I’m gonna find the restroom. If someone tries to hit you up, just act like you don’t speak the language."

Lu Qingyan obediently nodded her head.

She quietly sat in her seat and swiped her phone.

After a while, she noticed that the people performing on the stage seemed to have changed.

After a DJ with blooming flowers tattooed on his arm and wearing a pair of sunglasses appeared on the stage, the style of the music changed.

The flowery tattoos made the atmosphere even more lively under the flashing lights. For a while, countless people responded enthusiastically.

And then, the sharp-eyed Lu Qingyan suddenly noticed that there seemed to be a person near the DJ mixer who was hidden by the darkness behind the person with the flowery arm.

His figure was beautiful and he wore a loose t-shirt with a pair of burgundy headphones hung around his neck.

When the flowery-armed man talked to him in a low voice, he lifted his jaw slightly, drawing a beautiful arc within the flashing of light in the dark. His lips that appeared somewhat red also hooked up slightly, as if saying something.

She blinked once. Twice.

Even though she couldn’t see his eyes clearly, Lu Qingyan still knew that it was Wang Jingyuan.

Lu Qingyan propped her chin on her hand, her elbow resting on the table. "Why does his character setting always collapse every time I see him?" she muttered.

His character design before the 1st Chapter started was someone who excelled in morals and studies, as well as someone who was both sophisticated and reserved, had all collapsed.

Sure enough, maybe he really was a gangster?

Gangster vibes. DJ assistant. Eyebrow-raising outfits.

Did he moonlight as a backup dancer too? Should she expect him to start beatboxing next?

It seems like everyone she knew were all full of individuality.

There was another problem.

Just why did he try so hard to find all these jobs? Was it simply for fun or were there other reasons?

Was he always like this? Or had she forgotten something from the plot?

And another question—if his brother wasn’t sick in this timeline, why was he hustling so hard?

In the original novel, he worked like this because his brother was sick and needed money for hospital bills. But in this timeline, his brother was still healthy, alive and well, probably playing video games with no idea his older brother was out here juggling more roles than a drama actor.

Was he just collecting life experiences? Trying every possible career before turning 20?

Lu Qingyan stared at Wang Jingyuan as she let her thoughts wander.

When she realized that she had been watching him the whole time, a faint ray of light happened to sweep across the darkness near the DJ mixer, illuminating Wang Jingyuan eyes for a split second.

Through the constant flashing lights on the goblets, it passed over the noisy men and women.

The light shone into his eyes that resembled a dark river, one where all the emotions were submerged within its darkness.

They seemed to be here to hit her up.

"Pretty girl," a man said with a sleazy grin, his voice barely audible over the music, "isn’t it boring to sit alone?"

Lu Qingyan’s face was cold. She shook her head and said, "I’m waiting for someone here."

But the group of people obviously did not want to give up.

One of them even sat down next to her, carrying a cup of wine, "Big brother invites you to have a drink."

Lu Qingyan declined several times. But when she realized that the person showed no sign of giving up even in the face of death, she couldn’t help but curl her hands into a fist.

Her hand curled into a fist beneath the table.

I will go to jail today. Voluntarily.

She resisted the urge to directly shout, and good-temperedly said, "No need, my boyfriend will be here soon."

That person smiled and wanted to scoot closer to her, "Really, when is your boyfriend comin-?"

He never got to finish that sentence.

Almost as soon as his voice fell, the back collar of his clothes was grabbed by someone with great strength as his entire body was dragged away from Lu Qingyan.

His throat was painful from the tug and he turned around in time to see a youth standing next to the booth.

The youth had a pair of burgundy headphones hanging around his slender neck.

There was a cold expression on his face as he held onto his collar. He lowered his eyes and said to him in a threatening tone, "Stay away from her."

The man was frightened by the momentum, so he said as a final battle cry, "I-I know. I know."

As if noticing that Wang Jingyuan’s expression wasn’t quite right, the group of people also didn’t get too entangled. They directly left.

But right before they left, the person who’s collar was grabbed by Wang Jingyuan, turned around and looked at her coldly.

This made Lu Qingyan furrow her brows slightly.

Wang Jingyuan folded his hands and leaned lazily on the seat.

After the group of people left, the hostility and tension on his body dispersed, and his expression became very casual.
