Chapter 65: Her what!?

Wang Jingyuan had zero intention of joining in the party chaos that night.

He sat on the edge of the group, legs stretched out, leaning against a beanbag like it was a throne of solitude. The glow of his phone screen lit up his sharp features, his thumbs lazily scrolling through cycling stats—or cat videos. Knowing him, it could very well be both.

Then, without warning, an ice-cold can of beer pressed against his hand.

Peng Jianda clanked his own can against Wang Jingyuan’s like it was the most sacred of rituals. "C’mon, Brother Jing. Drink up!"

Han Ming shouted from the side. "Brother Jing is frank, let’s have another one."

Seizing the moment, Peng Jianda grabbed another can from the cooler, turned with the flair of a seasoned magician, and dramatically stuffed it into Lu Qingyan’s hands.

She blinked at it like he’d just handed her a live grenade.

From somewhere in the circle, someone protested, "Wait, wait—Xiao Yan’s a girl! She probably can’t drink, right?"

Peng Jianda snapped his head around like he was about to duel the speaker. "What do you know, our class’s Xiao Yan is not an ordinary girl a female hero. Female heroes all drink one bowl after another, and when they’re done drinking, they go up the mountain to fight tigers."

Lu Qingyan: "..."

You’re fucking fighting tigers!!

She wasn’t some delicate flower who got dizzy at the sight of alcohol. Her brother had let her try wine once on her sixteenth birthday.

The result: one sip, one face contorted like she’d swallowed gasoline, and a lifetime vow to stay away from alcohol unless someone paid her to drink it.

So she coolly handed the can back. "Yeah, no thanks. I’m allergic."

Peng Jianda recoiled like she’d slapped him with a raw fish. "Allergic!? Who’s allergic to alcohol?! That’s not even—wait..." He squinted like the universe had just revealed a great truth. "Of course! You’re good at studying and sports. It’s only fair God made you allergic to alcohol. It’s about balance!"

Tang Jie snorted from the sidelines. "Didn’t you tell me last week you were an atheist?"

Peng Jianda: "Yeah, well, God and I are on speaking terms when I’ve had three beers."

As the sunlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, it became dancing light spots on the curtains that were being blown by the wind.

She opened her eyes to see the chandelier of her living room.

She blinked and realized that she was unexpectedly lying on the sofa. When she came to her senses, she slowly propped up her body and unhurriedly sat up. NovelFire

She discovered that it was actually already 3pm and then noticed that there were several missed calls.

She suddenly remembered that today was the day that the Lu family will finally meet after much difficulty.

Today was that once-a-year ritual of pretense—the great Lu Family Reunion Dinner, where her mother Ivy would insist on maintaining the illusion that their broken family still held itself together with grace and silk napkins.

She got up to wash up. Afterwards, she called Ivy back.

"I was working overtime last night, didn’t come home," her voice was crisp, mildly displeased. "The nanny said you got home late."

"Yeah," Lu Qingyan said while stuffing her feet into shoes. "Class outing last night. We stayed out kind of late."

"I’m at Qinhu already. Don’t make us wait."

She hung up.

Typical.

Lu Qingyan rolled her eyes and grabbed her purse.

The driver dropped her at the gates of Qinhu, an upscale, trendy lakeside compound complete with designer restaurants, luxury boutiques, and, at night, bars that reeked of cologne.

She pulled out her phone to follow the location Ivy had sent.

Ivy and them made a reservation at a high-end western restaurant. It took Lu Qingyan a lot of effort to find the place.

As she rushed through a tree-lined path, she almost collided with someone at the entrance of a sleek western restaurant.

She looked up—and immediately regretted it.

That blue-haired peacock had half his eyes hidden behind bangs like some edgy NovelFire second male lead.

Even though she couldn’t see his full face, she recognized the audacity.

Isn’t this the scumbag who tried luring her in with some foods?

Her mouth curled in instinctive disdain.

She frowned as she stared at Lu Mingxuan for a moment. Then she turned around and entered the restaurant without paying him any further attention.

After the sports competition, Lu Mingxuan happily went clubbing the entire night. Therefore, he also slept for half a day before waking up and remembering that there was a dinner planned.

In the past, he had always refused. After all, there wasn’t anybody he wanted to see at these reunion dinners. But after he carefully thought about it for a moment, he still decided to come.

He just didn’t expect Lu Qingyan to be late as well.

When he saw Lu Qingyan at the entrance of the western restaurant, he was about to say something, but Lu Qingyan directly ignored him and went inside.

She even gave him an incredibly disdainful look before she turned away.

Lu Mingxuan was angered by her undisguised contempt.

He raised his eyebrows as he angrily thought, ’Okay then, Lu Qingyan’s wings have hardened.’

’I haven’t even tried to act self-important, but you’ve already started to act cocky in front of me.’

Immediately afterward, his expression remained unconcerned as he followed Lu Qingyan into the restaurant.

The two walked in one after another.

Lu Qingyan also noticed.

She was bewildered as to why this fisherman was following behind her.

No way...he’d already become the director of the men’s bathroom. Could it be that he still hadn’t given up on hooking her, this specific fish?

But before she could ponder on it for much longer, Ivy, who was seated not far from them, saw them walking towards her. free\NovelFire.c o(m)

Ivy briefly paused before asking, "You came with your brother?"

Lu Qingyan was taken aback.

Her what!?

Her brother?
