Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World
Chapter 303: River Crossing

Chapter 303: Chapter 303: River Crossing

Over at the riverside, while the crocodiles were picking out one zebra after the other to feast on, Sherone had made it to the other side of the river.

With glee, his hooves pressed on the wet riverside, sinking into the soil and slowing him down. But he ignored all that and continued climbing up the sloppy land, he was happy to finally escape.

When he was at a point where he was sure that no crocodile could ambush him without him being able to react quickly, he stopped and breathed a sigh of relief. He had escaped death from two sides.

He looked at the river which had been previously calm before but now, it was filled with large reptilian tails and floating zebra heads, waving about to splash water into the air.

Sherone did a quick count and saw that seven of his mates were missing, his heart was saddened but not too much. Most of them had only chosen to be with him because of his status and his strength, which by itself was a normal thing in the wild. He couldn’t expect them to pursue a male who didn’t have the ability to take care of them.

But his emotional attachment to them was only to a certain level because of familiarity. Knowing that three of them had probably been caught by the crocodiles and were now being torn to pieces under the water, Sherone still felt sad.

Among the many zebras approaching, he saw that most of the male leaders were fine apart from two or three that were missing in the whole herd. This was to be standard as each of those male leaders was close to Sherone in power level.

Any of them could fight their way out of most crocodile’s jaws if they put their mind to it.

Anyways, with Sherone on the other side, the other zebras rushed toward him with all their might. Many of their colleagues and friends that they had known for a long time within the herd had been snatched by those long crocodile jaws, yet, they didn’t stop for once to look back.

Only the mothers of those young zebras would occasionally stop when they found out that their offspring had been taken away. With their combat power severely limited inside the river, most cases would lead to both the mother and the foal being taken by the brutal Crocs.

Seeing the approaching zebras, Sherone felt that he could make do with these numbers. They would be able to integrate into the super mega herd easily.

He raised his head to look ahead. Just on the other side of the river, the strange and mysterious horde of beasts had finally arrived at the riverside.

Sherone gulped, glad that he had not stupidly tried to stay and fight. These were not creatures that he could contend with at all.

The river was wide, very wide, wide enough to contain two thousand plus zebras at the same time and still have a lot of space for up to ten thousand.

From his standpoint, Sherone could see different kinds of creatures. He could see goats, foxes, and wolves which he was just seeing for the first time, same with bears.

Above the horde, different birds flew about the sky restlessly, looking for an opportunity to descend.

With just a glance, Sherone had seen close to fifty creatures with auras indicating that they had the same power level as him. His heart beat wildly against his chest and his hooves patted the ground for reassurance.

His plan has succeeded, the horde wasn’t willing to cross the river, they were stuck on the other side.

It was something he had come up with on the spot. His goal has always been to lead the herd to the super mega herd on the other side of the river, but this river was heavily infested with crocodiles.

Whether they had crossed the river now, or at a later date, they would still have to face the danger of being eaten by crocodiles.

But with this horde of beasts chasing them down, Sherine had to shift the crossing date forward.

At least, he had been confident that the horde of beasts did not have as much pressure or drive as the zebras to cross the river.

They would be unwilling to cross the river and endanger themselves just to catch the crocodiles. And even if they still entered the river, the hungry crocodiles would be there waiting for them.

And if, by chance, or by some miracle, they made it out of the river and still chose to continue the chase, Sherone would use the protection of the super mega herd to deal with them.

The super mega herd was his last line of defense.

He stood more than fifteen meters away from the river, watching as one zebra after the other was reaching the land to climb out of the water.

However, something caught Sherone’s eye at this moment. At the far end of the incoming zebra herd, he saw a patch of red substance floating in the water.

That patch of red substance gave Sherone a bad feeling, he didn’t remember seeing something like this from last season.

*SPLASH!*

The water splashed high into the sky as two long and bloody red jaws burst out of the water. Each jaw had rows of greyish-black sharp teeth.

Before any of the zebras nearby could react, the blood-red crocodile snapped his jaws around one of the zebras.

*BAM!*

The upper and lower jaw struck the spine and abdomen respectively. A small shockwave seemed to pass through the body of the zebra.

Blood gushed out of two sides as the zebra was instantly split into two parts. Both bloody parts fell into the river, leaving the blood-red crocodile with little amount of flesh in his mouth.

But the crocodile did not slow down or go back to the two halves of the zebra herd just killed, rather, he just continued on to the nearest zebra beside him.

"QUICK, RUN!" Sherone shouted at the top of his telepathic voice. He didn’t need to say anything though as the appearance of such a large red crocodile stunned everyone, causing them to panic and fly helter-skelter.

*BAM!*

The crocodile snapped his jaws shut again, another victim had been successfully dismembered. This time, it was the head and neck that were split from the whole body.

All the zebras did not think twice, they hurried out of the river. By the time all the zebras were out, the red crocodile had already killed six zebras, each of which was just floating in the river aimlessly.

The tip part of the long river was now a mix of blood and mangled flesh floating above on the surface of the river.

Crocodiles fought amongst themselves for pieces of meat they could find, biting at each other and tearing zebra flesh into smaller bits before swallowing.

In total, about five hundred or more zebras had been killed in the river in that single crossing. None knew just how many crocodiles were lurking inside the river.

Now, the zebra herd was reduced to having one thousand five hundred or one thousand six hundred members.

It was better than nothing.

Sherone didn’t need to do a count, he had never done so and he never would. In most cases, the zebra herd would just replenish its numbers with new members either through birth or by having others join them.

This super mega herd was the perfect group to help them with this. The herd could replenish their numbers, wounds could be licked, and they could live in safety.

Alas, Sherone did not know the nature of the enemy he was running away from. How can a river stand in the way of a conqueror?

Suddenly, while Sherone was checking on his mates and foals of his own family unit, space twisted around him. He looked around, his heart beating fast with panic he realized that something was about to happen, he wasn’t imagining things.

His muscles bulged and his strength rose, he was ready to fight, just in case, but his legs were positioned to burst out with speed for an easy escape, just in case.

But all this was for nothing because as soon as the spatial distortions appeared, they disappeared, along with Sherone.

The mares were thrust into a state of panic as they saw their harem leader disappear without a trace. This was the first time they were seeing something like this.

The other male leaders of the zebra herd noticed Sherone’s absence and began to feel restless. Wasn’t Sherone supposed to join them in leading the herd to the super mega herd? Where had he gone to now?

But despite their panics, nothing could be done as Sherone had been teleported away.

Sherone only saw that the very fabric of reality seemed to twist and turn around him, making him feel extremely dizzy. Then the next thing he knew was that he was standing in front of a massive golden lion.
