Chapter 132: Translocation
Chapter 132: Translocation
"Sit, sit!" Eli insisted, pulling chairs closer as Mara fussed over Adrian, brushing imaginary dust from his shoulders.
"Look at you! You’ve grown taller! And... your glasses?" Mara’s eyes narrowed, then widened further. "Adrian... your eyes... are you...?"
Adrian offered a genuine, reassuring smile. "Ascended. Yes. I’m a Knight now."
Eli let out a low whistle, clapping Adrian on the back hard enough to make him sway.
"By the stars, lad! That’s our boy!" Pride radiated from both foster parents, momentarily eclipsing their surprise at his sudden appearance.
The questions came in a torrent then, overlapping and eager. "What made you return so early?" Mara asked. "Is everything alright? We weren’t expecting you for weeks!"
"The Capital... what was it like?" Eli also asked. "The Academy? The city? Did you meet any nobles?"
Adrian settled back, the worn wood of the chair comforting. He answered patiently, weaving tales of everything.
The atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter, shared memories of Tulia gossip, and Eli’s exaggerated retellings of minor village dramas that had occurred in Adrian’s absence.
Hours melted away as they spent time together.
A glance at the simple wooden clock that Adrian had installed on the wall showed it was nearing 1:00 AM.
Adrian stretched. "It’s late," he said softly, cutting off Eli story about Old Man Hemlock’s goat escaping again.
"You both need sleep. We can talk more tomorrow. I’ve got plenty more to tell, and I want to hear about everything here."
He stood up. "I’ll head to my room now."
Mara instantly protested, leaping to her feet.
"Nonsense! You must be starved after that drive! You haven’t eaten a thing since you got here! Let me whip up some stew, it won’t take but a moment—" She was already turning towards the small kitchen.
Adrian gently caught her arm. "Thank you, ma’am. Truly. But I’m not hungry at all. I’m perfectly fine." His tone was firm but kind.
Mara hesitated, searching his face. She knew this boy. Knew his honesty. If he said he wasn’t hungry, he wasn’t hungry.
The frantic maternal energy deflated slightly, replaced by reluctant acceptance.
"Alright then," she sighed, patting his hand. "If you’re sure. We’ll go. Good night, Adrian. So glad you’re home safe." She pulled him into one more quick hug.
Eli chuckled, pointing down the short hallway. "Your room’s still there, lad. In case these months made you forget where you sleep!"
Adrian returned the chuckle.
"I still remember," he assured them. "Good night, papa. Good night, ma’am." He watched them head towards their own room before turning and walking down the hall.
He pushed open the familiar door to his room. Nothing had changed. The neatly made bed, the small desk with its organized tools and small shelf. View the correct content at NovelFire)
A wave of profound comfort washed over him, deeper than he’d anticipated. He locked the door behind him, not bothering with the light. f.(r)eew ebnov\ll.com
Quickly, efficiently, he shed his clothes, pulling on soft, worn sleep pants and a simple tunic from his drawer, the feeling of familiar oversized fabric against his skin was another small luxury.
He fell onto the bed, sinking into the soft mattress and pillows with a groan of pure relief. He lay there for a moment as his limbs relaxed.
"It seems like ages," he murmured into the pillow. "Didn’t realize how much I missed... this."
The simple comfort of a soft bed was a stark contrast to the capsule he’s been used to.
He reached out and flicked the switch on the mana fan beside the bed. Its gentle whir filled the room, pushing cool air over him.
He allowed himself a few more minutes of blissful stillness, soaking in the quiet safety of his room.
Then, purpose solidified within him. He sat up abruptly. "I can’t afford to sleep tonight," he stated, his voice low but clear in the quiet room. .
With a focused thought, he summoned the translucent blue interface of the Factory Upgrade Panel.
The TP Counter glowed proudly: [39,800 TP].
More than enough. His mind had been made up for days. He didn’t hesitate.
"Purchase Mystery Upgrade."
[Upgrading System Factory: Mystery Upgrade]
[Deducting 20,000 TP...]
A brief, silent pulse seemed to emanate from the core of his being. Then:
[Upgrade Completed!]
[New Factory Skill Acquired: Translocate!]
[Translocate]
[Description: Imprint a location with your unique soul signature, creating a permanent anchor. Once anchored, you may instantly transfer up to 100 discrete units of your Factory-produced inventions to that location from anywhere within the same plane of existence. Transfer manifests instantly and intact at the anchor point.]
[Cooldown: 24 hours after each activation.]
A wide, genuine smile spread across Adrian’s face as he absorbed the description. The logistical implications for delivering inventions across vast distances were revolutionary.
"Wonderful," he breathed.
But his mind, always probing raced ahead. ’Something tells me it means so much more.’
The skill had a daily cooldown. He couldn’t waste it, especially if his hunch about its broader potential was correct.
"If there’s any time to test it out, that would be now."
Testing what he planned required more room than his tiny bedroom offered. But he didn’t need to go outside. He closed his eyes, centering himself.
"Visit Factory."
The familiar sensation of dissolution swept over him. The soft bed, the whirring fan, the moonlit view through his window – all vanished, replaced by the colorful skies of the Factory.
Adrian strode purposefully into the Simulation Chamber.
This time, he didn’t just project a hologram. He changed the void completely.
With a silent command, the endless white flowed. It wasn’t a projection appearing; it was the void itself transforming.
One moment, Adrian stood in white infinity. The next, he stood on the rusted metal walkway of his bridge, the groaning river churning hungrily beneath him.
Behind him stretched the desolate dunes. Ahead, the mountain peaks clawed at the sky.
"The scale... the fidelity..."
The System’s ability to perfectly simulate reality within this space was staggering.
But he wasn’t here for sightseeing. Time was limited. He crouched on the metal grate of the bridge walkway, placing his palm flat on the cold surface.
He focused his will, channeling a sliver of his soul essence, an invisible, intangible wisp of pure identity into the metal.
He felt it leave him and merge seamlessly with the simulated bridge structure.
Visually, nothing changed. The bridge remained as rusted and imposing as ever. But the System notification confirmed the success:
[Soul Imprint Successful! Anchor Secured!]
Adrian stood. "Now, let’s see how this really works," he murmured, a spark of anticipation in his eyes.
He focused on the very edge of the Corrupted Lands and he willed himself there.
One heartbeat he stood on the bridge. The next, he stood on dry earth. The transition was instantaneous and effortless.
He reached out, his fingertips meeting the smooth, invisible barrier that marked the boundary of the Magic Forest.
After Adrian confirmed, he summoned his Rover from the [Inventory].
The vehicle appeared instantly, and then Adrian reached into his [Inventory] again, pulling out a large, curved bone.
He placed the bone carefully on the Rover’s passenger seat.
Adrian climbed into the driver’s seat, closed the door, and took a steadying breath. This was the critical test.
