Reborn to outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight -
Chapter 236 Another Threat
Chapter 236: Chapter 236 Another Threat
Lin Zhiyi had never seen such a scene before, her instinctive reaction was to retreat, but she was cornered against the wall at the edge of the sidewalk.
She had nowhere to retreat to.
Seeing the wheel about to crush down, she raised her hand to protect her head.
The next second, Lin Zhiyi heard the sound of the motorcycle crashing and tumbling to the ground.
Still shaken, she lowered her hand and saw the motorcycle that had just charged at her roll into the flowerbed, bike and rider together.
And the one who had knocked the man into the flowerbed was... Gong Chen’s car.
Gong Chen stepped out of the luxury car, his long black coat carrying a sharp silhouette as he moved.
In a few strides, he was in front of the man, grabbing him by the collar.
The man begged pitifully, "Third Young Master, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do it, my brakes suddenly failed, and that’s why I rushed towards this lady. I’m just an ordinary citizen, please let me go."
Gong Chen glanced at the cross on the man’s throat, an ordinary citizen?
His eyes were coldly gleaming, the corner of his mouth laced with a faint mockery, "Be careful, or you might lose your life."
Fear crept into the man’s heart, and he nodded repeatedly, "Yes."
Sensing Lin Zhiyi’s gaze upon him, Gong Chen immediately let go of the man, "Go away."
The man painfully got up, propped up his motorcycle, and quickly left.
But as he turned to leave, Gong Chen glanced at Chen Jin beside the car.
Chen Jin nodded and disappeared in a blink of an eye.
Gong Chen walked up to Lin Zhiyi, reaching out and grabbing her arm.
He grabbed right where she was hurt, and she hissed, shrinking back her hand.
"Are you hurt?" Gong Chen asked in a low voice.
As he reached to pull back Lin Zhiyi’s sleeve, she took the opportunity to withdraw her hand.
"No," she said distantly, "Thank you, uncle, I’ll be leaving now."
Just as she turned around, Gong Chen didn’t move but suddenly grasped Lin Zhiyi by the waist and lifted her, carrying her towards the car.
While being lifted by him, Lin Zhiyi’s mind was filled with images of him and Sang Ran wearing his pajamas in bed.
Right, she had no right to interfere with this couple almost engaged.
So she just had to control herself.
Remembering those forgotten memories in her mind was already painful enough.
Now, she had to ignore Gong Chen’s possessive desire for her that a man has for a woman.
She had to tell herself that the past was behind her and that she should look forward.
She even had to endure Gong Chen’s threats.
She really couldn’t withdraw herself in an instant and be indifferent like Gong Chen.
She hated herself for being like this!
"Let me go!" Lin Zhiyi screamed desperately.
Gong Chen frowned, put her down but then blocked her in front of the car door, saying indifferently, "You’re moving to the Gong Mansion today."
There was no discussion, it sounded more like a command.
"What for? To find ways for the old master to humiliate me?" Lin Zhiyi found it ridiculous.
"The engagement party. Your mom is too busy to manage, and Xiao Ran and I decided to have you help out, Xiao Ran likes you a lot, it would be good for you to accompany her, the old master has already agreed."
"What did you say!"
Lin Zhiyi’s voice was twisted as she spoke.
She stared at Gong Chen in disbelief, being asked to prepare the engagement party for him and Sang Ran.
Gong Chen did not like to repeat himself, stepped past her, and opened the car door, "Get in the car."
Lin Zhiyi’s body trembled, and no matter how she tried to regulate her breath, she felt suffocated.
Gong Chen looked at her, his gaze flickering, "Lin Zhiyi..."
Lin Zhiyi lifted her head.
His expression turned cold in an instant, "Get in the car, your mom is waiting for you."
Another threat!
Lin Zhiyi gave a wry smile, a blank look in her eyes, "Okay."
...
Gong Mansion.
As soon as Lin Zhiyi got out of the car, the butler came with attendants.
"Third Young Master, the old master requests your presence."
"Hmm," Gong Chen said, expressionless.
Hearing this, Lin Zhiyi turned and walked toward the backyard.
Just as she reached the yard gate, the laughter of Liu He and Sang Ran reached her.
As Zhiyi entered, the two were looking at a booklet on the ancestral worship process, chatting and enjoying each other’s company.
"Zhiyi, you’re here. Come on, I just stewed some silver ear and red date soup. Second sister-in-law said I have a real talent."
Sang Ran had already changed her way of addressing, and she seemed especially familiar—Liu He must have accepted her as well.
"Hmm." Lin Zhiyi sat down and, from the corner of her eye, spotted the guest list, "So many guests?"
Sang Ran laughed, "Many? We only invited the more important people from both sides, the rest will have to wait for the wedding."
Lin Zhiyi, looking at the list with nearly two hundred names, immediately shut her mouth.
Both families were large and well-connected—the last thing they lacked was connections.
Liu He noticed Lin Zhiyi’s embarrassment and changed the subject, "Xiao Ran, where were we just now?"
"Oh, about at what point the third madam should offer incense. It’s such a hassle." Sang Ran pouted.
"It’s not troublesome. Lao San is the heir, the future head of the Gong family. Everything should start with him, and since you are his wife, you’ll naturally be the first." Liu He explained.
Upon hearing this, a look of blissful admiration appeared on Sang Ran’s face.
"I keep saying how impressive he is. Back when he was in university, he was always the first in everything and he finished his studies the fastest. I remember people teasing him about whether he had a sweetheart waiting for him back home, making him so eager."
Liu He swiftly came to his defense, "Not at all, Lao San is very cautious when it comes to relationships. If it hadn’t been for Song Wanqiu impersonating someone else, you would have been his only..."
Woman.
The word nearly escaped Liu He’s lips when she remembered Lin Zhiyi’s presence.
"His only what?" Sang Ran asked.
"Fiancée," Liu He corrected herself.
Sang Ran waved her hand, "It’s all in the past, second sister-in-law, please go on."
Liu He glanced at Lin Zhiyi and awkwardly continued.
After explaining the process, Sang Ran pulled Zhiyi to put up decorations for the celebration.
"Isn’t it too early to put them up? Won’t they fade by the time of the wedding?"
Lin Zhiyi looked down at the hand-cut ’happiness’ characters in her hand.
Sang Ran covered her mouth with a light laugh, "We’re just decorating mine and Third Young Master’s courtyard. Although it’s only the engagement, I want some sense of ceremony. Plus, there’s something I’d like to ask for your help with."
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhiyi’s hand stiffened.
Outsiders were not allowed in Gong Chen’s courtyard; Song Wanqiu dreamed of moving in but didn’t even make it through the door.
It seemed the true lady of the house had arrived so quickly.
Lin Zhiyi’s expression quickly returned to normal.
"Xiao Ran, for other matters, you should still consult my mother. I don’t understand engagement or wedding details, but I can lend a hand."
"It’s not about that; it’s something else. Although your mother is my second sister-in-law, there’s such an age gap between us, there are some things I really can’t bring myself to say." Sang Ran’s face turned red.
"What is it?"
"I’ll tell you after we finish putting up the decorations."
Sang Ran gave her a secretive blink.
Perhaps it was her comfortable and natural aura; Lin Zhiyi found herself smiling along.
Sang Ran’s prosthetic made it difficult for her to climb up and down, so it was Lin Zhiyi who stood on the stool to put up the decorations.
In the process, a portion of her arm was exposed by accident.
Sang Ran noticed the red scratches on it and exclaimed in surprise, "Zhiyi, how did you get hurt?"
Lin Zhiyi quickly retracted her arm, "It’s just... I’m a bit allergic to jasmine, and yesterday while doing the dishes, I scratched until it broke the skin."
"Then, I’ll get you some allergy medicine later. It’s from my family’s private doctor abroad; you can’t find it in stores here," Sang Ran said with a lifted smile.
"Thank you," Lin Zhiyi changed the subject, "Is there anything else now that everything’s been put up?"
"Come with me upstairs."
"That’s not appropriate, your uncle doesn’t allow people in his bedroom."
Lin Zhiyi didn’t want to go either.
"Come on, if anything happens, I as your little aunt will cover for you."
When Lin Zhiyi heard the term ’little aunt’, she froze momentarily and before she could object, she was pulled upstairs.
Gong Chen’s master bedroom was spacious, with a walk-through wardrobe and bathroom leading to a bed facing a 270-degree panoramic window. Outside the window was a view of the lake in the Gong Family Park.
The bed was dressed in red, with two boxes on top.
Opening the boxes, Sang Ran asked shyly, "Which one do you think suits me?"
