Chapter 233: Chapter 233 Even if You Die, It’s Impossible

The man across from her, upon hearing the words "little uncle," directed his chilling gaze upon her.

Lin Zhiyi, taking the cue, cast down her eyes, aiming to avoid his stare, only to catch sight of the slippers he wore with Sang Ran.

A couple’s pair.

Adorably styled, at that.

Everyone knew how indifferent Gong Chen was.

He would never change for anyone’s sake.

Song Wanqiu was by his side for over three years, yet never managed to alter his habits.

In her past life, Lin Zhiyi was with him for eight years, and he only ever wore the guest slippers prepared by his family.

But now, he was willingly changing.

If Song Wanqiu knew, she’d realize just how ridiculous her actions against Zhiyi had been.

The woman in Gong Chen’s heart had always been the woman who saved him.

Just then, Sang Ran’s exclamation of "Oh no!" broke the silence.

"My dish! Zhiyi, can you come help me out?"

"Sure."

She had no desire to be in the way here.

Sang Ran turned around too quickly and nearly lost her balance, almost falling.

Gong Chen reached out to steady her, speaking indifferently, "You don’t need to do this."

"I can’t always wait for you to cook for me, right? Okay, I’m all greasy, don’t let it get on you. You two big men just wait to eat."

After regaining her footing, Sang Ran hurriedly wiped Gong Chen’s clothes.

Lin Zhiyi stood awkwardly to the side, her mind a blank.

It seemed Sang Ran had also had a taste of Gong Chen’s cooking.

If they both cared so much for each other, why bother dragging her into this?

In a daze, Sang Ran took hold of her hand and they headed towards the kitchen.

Lin Zhiyi had thought Sang Ran cooking was merely out of whimsy, given she was a pampered daughter from a rich family.

To her surprise, the kitchen was in perfect order; even the vegetables to be julienned were done meticulously.

As she stirred the food in the wok, Sang Ran said sweetly, "Zhiyi, could you taste this and see how it compares to the Gong family’s chef’s cooking?"

With that, she offered a piece of braised pork from the wok to Lin Zhiyi’s mouth with her chopsticks.

Not wanting to be rude, Lin Zhiyi opened her mouth and ate it.

After tasting it, she was startled; it was made entirely to Gong Chen’s taste.

In her past life, she had been secretly in love with Gong Chen and had clandestinely learned many dishes for him, including this braised pork.

So she knew instantly, clear evidence of how deeply Sang Ran loved Gong Chen.

"It’s very good, on par with the Gong family’s chef. I didn’t expect you to be such a good cook."

"I told you, don’t be fooled by my appearance. I know quite a few tricks," joked Sang Ran, "but with your stamp of approval, I can relax. Let me find a good-looking plate to serve it on."

As Sang Ran bent down to open the cupboard, she couldn’t find any bowls or dishes.

Lin Zhiyi blurted out, "The dishes are on the top shelf, he..."

Suddenly, silence fell around them, punctuated only by the bubbling sound from the pot.

Lin Zhiyi hurried to explain, "I delivered something for Uncle before and saw little uncle reach for it. He’s so tall, bending down is uncomfortable for him, so he placed the dishes up high."

Sang Ran stood up and smiled, "Oh, I see. Then I’ll have to talk to him about this sometime."

"Let me get them for you."

Lin Zhiyi opened the top cupboard and picked out several plates for Sang Ran to choose from.

Sang Ran eventually chose a plain plate.

While plating, she suddenly asked, "Zhiyi, do you come here often?"

"No," Lin Zhiyi didn’t lie, then swiftly changed the subject, "I’ve already designed a draft of your wedding ring, I’ll show it to you later to see if it’s the right direction. I’ve already spoken to the master ahead of time, you’ll definitely have it before the wedding."

Upon hearing this, a smile spread across Sang Ran’s face, "Thank you, I knew I hadn’t misjudged you, you really are amazing."

Lin Zhiyi gave a light smile, "Come on, let me help you."

The two of them served the food on plates and brought everything to the table.

Moments later, the four of them sat down to eat.

Sang Ran affectionately picked up a piece of braised pork and held it to Gong Chen’s lips.

"Third Young Master, try this, is it good?"

Gong Chen’s gaze fell and without any change in expression, he gently turned Sang Ran’s chopsticks in another direction.

"You’re tired, you eat first."

Her cheeks flushed with a sweet smile, Sang Ran replied, "Alright."

Seeing this, Lin Zhiyi lowered her head and mechanically ate her rice, habitually sticking to the vegetables in front of her.

It was a habit formed during her time with the Gong family.

Although the Gong family’s meals always featured a variety of delicious dishes, only those with authority could spin the lazy Susan.

For someone like her, even an extra bite was considered ill-mannered.

As she reached for more vegetables, the turntable spun, bringing the braised pork in front of her.

Startled for a moment, she looked up to see Sang Li rotating the turntable, placing the braised shrimp in front of her as well.

"You seemed to enjoy these last time. Eat more; don’t be shy with her."

"Thank you."

Lin Zhiyi was surprised by Sang Li’s recollection of such a small detail.

But... it would have been nice if the braised pork had stopped in front of her.

She had a preference for meat.

Not wanting to dampen the mood, she picked up two shrimps and placed them on her plate.

From the corner of her eye, she saw Gong Chen withdraw his hand, and upon closer inspection, he was pulling out a tissue.

Sang Ran teased, "Brother, you’re the type to forget your sister at the sight of a pretty woman."

"Enough, I’ll peel the shrimp for you."

Sang Li was very fond of his sister and promptly wiped his hands to begin peeling the shrimp.

Sang Ran raised her eyebrows teasingly, "No need, I have someone to peel for me; you can peel for someone else."

With that, she passed a shrimp from her plate to Gong Chen.

"Third Young Master, peel for me."

Gong Chen opened his hand, "I got a cut today, it’s inconvenient. Let your brother do it."

Sang Ran pursed her lips with a nod and a strained smile.

Sang Li glanced at Gong Chen and put the shrimp he was peeling directly into Lin Zhiyi’s bowl.

"Too late. Today, I’m peeling for Zhiyi."

Sang Ran couldn’t help but laugh.

The situation made Lin Zhiyi feel slightly embarrassed, and she felt her ears heat up.

But as she ate the shrimp, she noticed the gaze from across the table darken instantly.

Barely getting through the meal, Lin Zhiyi stood up to help Sang Ran clean up.

Chatting in the kitchen, they seemed quite comfortable.

Sang Ran nudged Lin Zhiyi with her elbow, "What do you think of my brother?"

"He’s good," Lin Zhiyi responded politely, her thoughts not straying in that direction.

"He..."

Sang Ran was cut off as Sang Li’s voice reached them from outside.

"Xiao Ran, should I put your luggage in the master bedroom?"

"Don’t just barge into our room; I’m grown up already."

Sang Ran set down the plate and rushed out, flushed with embarrassment.

As Lin Zhiyi listened to the fading voices, she could no longer keep up the pretense; her shoulders slumped.

Gazing out the window at the night sky, the moon was particularly bright, casting its light upon her face, making her look even more pale.

Suddenly, a shadow appeared on the glass in front of her.

Lin Zhiyi’s heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly tried to evade but was a step too slow.

The person behind her restrained her firmly, one arm encircling her, the other hand grasping her cheek, forcing her to turn and meet his gaze.

His face was terrifyingly cold, his eyes faintly rimmed with red, tumultuous emotions swirling within them.

"Why are you with him?"

"It’s none of your business! Let me go!" Lin Zhiyi struggled in a low voice.

"Impossible. Lin Zhiyi, even in death, it’s impossible."

He descended upon her like a madman and kissed her brutally.
