Chapter 229: Chapter 229: So It Was Him

The warm water slid down her throat, soothing the discomfort in Lin Zhiyi’s throat.

She gradually stabilized, and the warm fingertips of the person in front of her brushed against her lips, as if touching some treasure.

He leaned closer and closer, his burning breath fell on Lin Zhiyi’s face.

She instinctively held her breath, and although everything before her eyes was blurry, she could feel that he was very, very close to her.

Close enough that a slight movement would lead to their lips touching.

At that moment, the medicine took full effect, and Lin Zhiyi’s body went limp, and she collapsed onto the couch.

Soon, a tall figure came over and held her tightly in his arms, the sound of his heartbeat dominating her ears.

It was somehow reassuring.

In her dazed state, she felt a soft touch on her forehead.

"Sleep."

His deep voice, as if magical, allowed Lin Zhiyi to fall into darkness.

When Lin Zhiyi opened her eyes again, she stared at the snow-white ceiling and reached up to touch her forehead.

Fortunately, the fever had subsided.

She just felt very weak.

She reached for the water glass on the table, but couldn’t grasp it.

A hand reached over, handing her the water glass.

"Awake?"

That voice...

Lin Zhiyi lifted her eyes to clearly see the person before her, and froze.

"Mr. Sang? What are you doing at my place?"

Sang Li helped her sit up to drink water, explaining, "Don’t misunderstand, I was passing by your studio, wanted to ask about a design, and your colleague mentioned you were sick, so I got your address to come see you, but you didn’t respond to calls and knocks. Just then, your neighbor came back, and she had your keys, so she opened the door to check."

Lin Zhiyi and Sister Zhou, both being single women, kept each other’s keys to prevent emergencies.

Holding the water glass, she said thank you, feeling a bit embarrassed and unable to look at Sang Li.

So, the person just now was Sang Li?

She slightly lifted her eyes, her gaze scanning the room as if looking for something.

But apart from Sang Li, there was no sign of anyone else.

Suddenly, she felt her action was somewhat superfluous and appeared quite ridiculous.

Sang Li, noticing her gaze, asked, "Feeling better?"

Lin Zhiyi came to her senses, "Much better."

"Go eat something, it will make your body feel more comfortable," Sang Li pointed at the dining table.

Lin Zhiyi looked and was surprised to find a bowl of steaming millet porridge on the table, accompanied by her favorite snacks.

She stood up in surprise but ignored her body’s weakness. She blacked out the moment she stood, but Sang Li quickly supported her.

"Come on, I’ll help you."

"Okay."

The two sat down at the table.

Lin Zhiyi picked up the bowl, instantly recognizing the finely prepared porridge was not bought from outside and must have been stewed for a long time.

So the person who took care of her really was Sang Li.

She clenched her spoon, her embarrassment mixed with complex emotions making her lose her appetite.

"Don’t like it?" Sang Li looked at her.

"No, thank you. Sorry for the trouble."

She forced down about half a bowl of porridge and a few snacks, all tasteless.

After setting down the bowl, Sang Li handed her the water glass and a pill.

"Take this medication with meals, or it will upset your stomach."

Seeing the considerate Sang Li, Lin Zhiyi recalled the vague and concrete images from earlier, especially feeling like someone had kissed her forehead.

Feeling awkward, she started, "Mr. Sang, earlier, when I had the fever, I might have..."

Before she could finish, Sister Zhou suddenly burst through the door.

"Zhiyi, you’re awake? Are you okay?"

"I’m fine now."

Just as Lin Zhiyi spoke, she noticed Sister Zhou’s strange look toward Sang Li.

Thinking of Sister Zhou’s gossiping nature, she inwardly panicked, wanting to intervene but was too slow.

Sister Zhou directly confronted him, hands on hips, finger pointing at Sang Li: "Ah! So, it’s you, the heartbreaker!"

Sang Li was taken aback.

"Faithless man?"

"Oh, still not admitting it? Don’t think I couldn’t recognize you just because you wore a mask back then. You dare come and bother our Zhiyi without even changing your skin. I was saying, how come you looked so familiar just now!"

Sister Zhou pointed at Sang Li’s suit.

Lin Zhiyi then realized that Sang Li was wearing the same brand of suit as Gong Chen wore when he brought her home masked.

Except for very minute differences, in the eyes of most people, they looked exactly the same.

Sang Li and Gong Chen had similar builds, no wonder Sister Zhou mistook him.

"Sister Zhou, it’s not what you think," Lin Zhiyi hastily explained.

Unfortunately, Sister Zhou wouldn’t listen at all, protecting her like a hen with its chicks, fearing she would go back to her ex.

"Zhiyi! You promised me you would never go back to an ex-boyfriend!"

"Ex-boyfriend?" Sang Li looked thoughtfully at Lin Zhiyi, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

Lin Zhiyi felt like she had just recovered from a serious illness but wanted to faint on the spot.

Sister Zhou righteously said, "Sir, even if you are thinking of Zhiyi now, what’s the use? When Zhiyi needed someone the most before, you just ignored her, and the kindness afterward is like a blunt knife; it doesn’t kill, but it forever makes one sick to their stomach."

Hearing this, Lin Zhiyi suddenly stiffened.

In the midst of it, she thought of something and bit her inner lip hard.

Sang Li glanced sideways at Lin Zhiyi’s pale cheeks, speaking in a low voice, "This lady is very right."

Lin Zhiyi looked at Sang Li in surprise, not understanding why he would say that.

Seeing his sincere acknowledgment, Sister Zhou’s expression also softened.

"That’s more like it. You’re not trying to win back Zhiyi, are you?"

"Sister Zhou!" Lin Zhiyi spoke up to stop her.

"Don’t be shy, if you really like him, then be bold. You two are actually quite a good match. If necessary, later we can have your uncle take a look at him."

This was getting more and more absurd.

Just then, as she was speaking, Sang Li’s assistant approached with a mobile phone.

Lin Zhiyi quickly covered Sister Zhou’s mouth, feeling so embarrassed she wished she could burrow underground.

"Young master, you left your mobile phone in the car, it’s..." Assistant Zhou Zhao glanced at Lin Zhiyi, changing his words, "an important call."

Sang Li glanced at the screen, somewhat surprised.

After taking the phone, Sang Li turned slightly to the side, lowering his voice.

"Mhm. I know."

After hanging up, Sang Li politely said, "Zhiyi, I have to leave first because of some matters."

Before Lin Zhiyi could speak, Sister Zhou pushed her saying, "Zhiyi, see him out. I’ll clean up the dishes."

With no choice, Lin Zhiyi had to put on her coat to send Sang Li down the stairs.

"Sister Zhou is not bad, just overly enthusiastic and a bit of a gossip."

"Zhiyi, actually I really think what she said is right."

Lin Zhiyi was about to ask which statement when she looked up and met Sang Li’s deep phoenix eyes.

She seemed to vaguely guess which one.

But she wasn’t in that kind of mood, especially since Sang Li was Sang Ran’s brother.

"Mr. Sang, have a safe trip," Lin Zhiyi changed the subject.

Sang Li didn’t press further, nodding his head.

Stepping out of the building, a cold wind blew, and Lin Zhiyi shivered.

Sang Li turned back to block the wind for her, pulling her coat tight, "Go back inside, it’s too cold out here."

"Mhm."

Out of courtesy, Lin Zhiyi still watched him get into the car.

Turning to go back, she felt as if someone was watching her, their gaze like a flame in winter, rushing towards her.

She turned to look, staring at a patch of snow-free ground, and, with a self-deprecating laugh, turned away.

After going upstairs, Sister Zhou came out having washed the dishes and had also made her ginger tea.

Lin Zhiyi said thanks, then switched her words, "Sister Zhou, he is not my ex-boyfriend."

Sister Zhou wiped her hands, grinned mischievously, "I know, but he didn’t deny it, and the way he looks at you is definitely not plain."

"Don’t talk nonsense."

Lin Zhiyi didn’t want to gossip, pretending to sip her tea.

Sister Zhou chuckled softly, got up to leave, then suddenly remembered something and turned back.

"Oh, right, Zhiyi, don’t leave valuable things in the kitchen next time. I put it on the shelf for you, remember to keep it safe."

"What valuable item?" Lin Zhiyi asked, confused.
