Chapter 533: Chapter 533: Vice Admiral, Your Subordinate is Late!
"Who! Who dares hit me!" Xu Chun was kicked to the ground, landing face-first into the dirt.
Some in the crowd laughed, others exclaimed.
"Ah, Li Sui is back!"
Li Sui, dressed in blue, looked at Xu Chun with hatred in his eyes. He withdrew his foot and hurried to help his parents.
"Father, Mother!" Li Sui saw his father’s mud-covered hand and his mother’s pained, pale face.
"Sui’er!" Mrs. Li endured the pain in front of Li Sui, patted his hand, and asked with concern, "Child, are you okay? Why did you come back so late?"
Li Sui was about to explain that he went to the Ministry of Personnel, thus returning late, when he suddenly heard a loathsome voice.
"Oh, it’s the former prisoner, Mr. Li, back again!" Xu Chun stood up, clutching his cheek. Li Sui’s kick had scraped his face on the ground, drawing blood. A nearby thug handed Xu Chun a handkerchief, and Xu Chun painfully wiped the blood and dirt from his face.
"Chief Li, you saw Li Sui hit me. I think he’s eager to get imprisoned again. Aren’t you going to arrest him quickly!"
Chief Li wanted to return a favor to the Li Family, so he certainly wouldn’t take Xu Chun’s side. He said righteously, "Xu Chun, you started the fight first! You’re turning the facts around!"
"Xu Chun, you’ve gone too far!" Li Sui stepped forward, grabbing Xu Chun by the collar. In the past, he would have beaten up Xu Chun and these thugs!
But now he held an official position, and doing so would mean assaulting civilians.
Xu Chun swallowed nervously. He was a bit afraid of Li Sui, but seeing Li Sui put down his fists, he became smug again.
"Hit me, go ahead, hit me. Then I’ll have all the reason I need to bring you to meet the authorities!"
"Yeah, hit him!" The thugs echoed arrogantly.
Li Sui narrowed his deep eyes. He really wanted to punch Xu Chun and the thugs, to hit them until they were dead!
Mr. Li stepped forward, pulling Li Sui back, "Sui’er, don’t hit him. He’s intentionally provoking you. If you hit him, we’ll be at a disadvantage when we go to the authorities!"
"Yes, child, don’t stoop to their level, let it go!" Mrs. Li also urged Li Sui.
The civilians were also furious but didn’t dare speak against Xu Chun. They turned to Li Sui, "Li Sui, let it go, less trouble is better than more!"
"Nephew Li, endure for a calm future!"
Li Sui suppressed his anger, pointed at Xu Chun, "Get out of here!"
Chief Li prepared to intervene and offer Li Sui a favor.
He placed his hand on his sword’s hilt, looking to the constables behind him, intending to say that Xu Chun assaulted Mr. Li and Mrs. Li, and to take him away!
Just as he opened his mouth, Li Sui glared at him and shouted, "You get out too!"
Chief Li frowned. Li Sui considered his goodwill as worthless, treating him like Xu Chun’s accomplice.
Li Sui gritted his teeth, believing Chief Li and Xu Chun were in cahoots; neither was a good person.
As Chief Li, he could have stopped Xu Chun from bullying his parents, but chose to stand by and let things escalate.
Chief Li, holding back his frustration, could only explain to Li Sui later.
Suddenly, Xu Chun sneered loudly, "Is there any law left? You tell me to get out, I get out? Is this street yours? Who do you think you are!"
"Silence!" A voice rebuked loudly.
The crowd turned to look, seeing a carriage stopped at the back.
An official dressed in red court attire stepped out of the carriage.
Chief Li, seeing the person, was instantly shocked and trotted over to him, nodding, "Lord Zhao, why have you come personally?"
The other constables also bowed to Capital Governor Zhao Xin.
The observing civilians seeing such a high official, all knelt down.
"Rise!" Zhao Xin raised his hand.
The civilians respectfully got up.
Xu Chun frowned about why Lord Governor came personally, but then thought it’s fine, conveniently he could accuse Li Sui when Chief Li hid the stolen goods.
In a while, Li Sui would be doomed!
Xu Chun ran forward crying, kneeling before Zhao Xin, pointed to his injured cheek, "Lord Governor, you must be my judge, it’s Li Sui who hit me, there’s stolen goods in their Li Family’s jade shop, now with Chief Li!"
Xu Chun’s masterful reversal of blame took the civilians by surprise!
Mr. Li and Mrs. Li also tensely pulled at Li Sui’s sleeves, afraid their son would impulsively hit Xu Chun.
Zhao Xin directly bypassed Xu Chun and walked toward Li Sui. Xu Chun was ecstatic, see, even Lord Governor wants justice for him!
The civilians saw Lord Governor’s serious expression approaching Li Sui, also worried for the Li Family trio.
Neighborhood folks knelt pleading for the Li Family, "Lord Governor, the Li Family are honest and simple people, their jade trade is fair, please investigate carefully!"
"Lord Zhao, Li Sui was wrongfully imprisoned years ago, today’s incident must be a conspiracy against the Li Family, Great Lord, please return fairness to the Li Family!"
"Please investigate thoroughly!" Suddenly, all civilians stood with the Li Family.
They were all ordinary civilians, if they didn’t help each other, when they were in trouble in the future, no one would help them.
Xu Chun glared warningly at these civilians, fine, he memorized all their faces, he’d deal with them all later!
Suddenly, a shocking scene occurred, Zhao Xin nodded and respectfully bowed to Li Sui.
Civilians looked at each other, what’s going on?
Why was Lord Zhao bowing so respectfully to Li Sui!
Xu Chun’s smile froze instantly, he couldn’t understand, had Lord Zhao gone mad? Why such respect for Li Sui, Lord Zhao was a fourth-grade official of the court!
The thugs also became nervously uneasy, looking at the situation, Lord Zhao knew Li Sui, but why such respectful bowing?
Chief Li swallowed, stiffened all over, knowing that based on his knowledge of Lord Zhao, unless facing a higher official, he’d not bow so deeply.
Could it be Li Sui already held a position?
Might he be a third-grade official?
His mind was restless, clearly, Li Sui disliked him, and today, his gesture didn’t get through.
If Li Sui indeed held a position, as someone who once imprisoned Li Sui, could he still stay in the Capital Government?
Chief Li thought of this, started sweating profusely, intensely nervous.
The crowd quieted down, held their breath, listening to Lord Zhao respectfully telling Li Sui, "Vice Admiral, my apologies for arriving late, sorry for the scare!"
