Chapter 515: Chapter 515: Madam, Should We Continue Watching?

Mu Yan and Zhan Lan returned from the General Mansion. As Zhan Lan walked into the courtyard, she suddenly stumbled, and Mu Yan immediately supported her.

"Lan’er, be careful!"

Zhan Lan leaned against Mu Yan’s side and said, "It’s nothing, just a bit tired recently."

She never relaxed her mind and body until the dust settles after a battle. Now that her grandfather’s body had been sent home, as it had been sitting for some time and couldn’t wait any longer, the mourning period was shortened from seven days to three. After burying her grandfather, there were no major matters in her heart.

Mu Yan supported Zhan Lan all the way back to the house. Xiao Tao and Qiuyue stayed at the General Mansion to help, while Liu Xi was called back by Zhan Lan.

Although Liu Xi was no longer Zhan Lan’s maid, none of her duties were neglected.

The stove crackled with jumping flames, warming the room, as Liu Xi helped Zhan Lan remove the heavy armor.

Zhan Lan looked at Liu Xi, "You’ve worked hard recently, go get some rest!"

"The lady is the one who’s been working hardest. This servant takes her leave."

Liu Xi took the clothes Zhan Lan brought back from the border and nodded before leaving.

Liu Xi was still accustomed to calling herself a servant; perhaps she would change this title once she was married.

Wearing thin clothes, Zhan Lan felt comfortable all over. She stretched her shoulders, while Mu Yan stood behind her, massaging them.

Zhan Lan placed her hand on his, glanced back at Mu Yan, looked him up and down, then said, "Take off your clothes!"

Mu Yan raised his eyebrows; these words sounded familiar.

It seemed Zhan Lan had said this to him at Zhaixing Building. At the time, he thought Zhan Lan was bold and extravagant!

"Madam, you’re already very tired. Have a good rest!" Mu Yan stretched lazily, pretending to be quite fatigued.

Zhan Lan turned around and looked at him seriously, her tone stern, "Take off your clothes!"

Mu Yan said, troubled, "Madam, although we haven’t shared a bed for quite a while, it’s getting late tonight; we should rest."

Zhan Lan stood up, placed both hands on Mu Yan’s collar, pulled him close, and started to tug at his clothes.

Once Mu Yan’s collar was undone, Zhan Lan saw the wound below his chest.

Zhan Lan’s eyes trembled; she knew Mu Yan was injured. He only took a few men to charge into Western Rong; even with insiders, he still took great risks.

Mu Yan looked a bit embarrassed, his long fingers pressing on Zhan Lan’s hand, comforting her, "They’re just minor wounds, you don’t need to worry."

Zhan Lan continued to push his clothes down to his waist. Mu Yan rubbed his brow, his eyes guilty as he looked at Zhan Lan, his tone teasing, "If only Madam were this proactive on ordinary days."

Zhan Lan saw a scar on his waist.

Fortunately, the wound wasn’t deep, but the scar hadn’t healed yet—it was clearly a recent injury.

"Are there more?" Zhan Lan’s chest rose and fell.

Mu Yan placed Zhan Lan’s hand on his belt, his tone meaningful, "Madam, do you want to keep looking?"

Zhan Lan didn’t like his improper look, and with her hand flicked away, she said, "Mu Yan, you always handle everything by yourself; it makes me feel very uneasy."

As she continued, Mu Yan suddenly embraced her, "Lan’er, they’re just minor wounds. Your husband is always careful, and with you around, I’m reluctant to risk my life."

As he spoke, he let go of Zhan Lan, touched her arm and waist, exclaiming, "How did my delicate and soft Madam become so thin?"

Zhan Lan glanced at him, "Has your cold ailment relapsed again?"

Mu Yan shook his head, "Madam, sorry for making you worry."

He remembered today when a group of ministers had blocked his way, citing that the country couldn’t be without an emperor for a single day, urging him to ascend the throne quickly.

Mu Yan embraced Zhan Lan again, "The day after tomorrow is an auspicious day; your husband is going to be crowned emperor, and in the future, there might be more times for you to worry."

"Hmm." Zhan Lan nodded gently.

"Lan’er, being a ruler is tiring. I once thought of making you the Empress, but being Regent King for so long has shown me it’s exhausting. So, are you willing to be my delicate and tender queen?"

Listening to Mu Yan’s gentle whispers in her ear, at this moment, Zhan Lan felt everything seemed so unreal.

In the previous life, Mu Yan was the Regent King, and she was someone else’s queen.

In this life, Mu Yan was the emperor, and she was Mu Yan’s queen.

She was going to be queen again.

Zhan Lan wasn’t overly excited; if there was any joy, it was because the emperor was the man she loved and who loved her.

Mu Yan noticed Zhan Lan’s silence. He released her and observed that her eyes lacked special joy. He earnestly said, "Lan’er, rest assured, you will be my only one in the harem; there shouldn’t be other women."

"Shouldn’t? You wouldn’t dare!" Zhan Lan kicked at Mu Yan’s knee.

Mu Yan winced in pain, while Zhan Lan bent down, worried, inspecting his knee, "What’s wrong? Is there an injury here too?"

She didn’t kick that hard!

Mu Yan held her hand, "Lan’er, you’re murdering your husband!"

Zhan Lan raised her fist and shook it in front of Mu Yan, "If there are other women in the palace, I will cripple your legs!"

Mu Yan smiled ambiguously at her, "Exactly."

"Exactly what?" Zhan Lan crossed her arms.

Mu Yan placed his hand on her shoulder, "In the palace, aside from you, there are maids to attend to you, of course, there are other women; I wouldn’t want those eunuchs taking care of you."

"You!" Realizing Mu Yan was talking about the maids, Zhan Lan showed a mischievous smile, poking his forehead.

Mu Yan smirked. Finally, Zhan Lan was smiling. If she were submerged in grief over her grandfather’s death for too long, he feared Lan’er might make herself ill.

Zhan Lan knew Mu Yan was trying to cheer her up. She had already faced immense pain and wouldn’t indulge in it to hurt herself.

"Mu Yan, I want you to take care of me!" Zhan Lan raised an eyebrow.

Suddenly, Mu Yan lifted her chin, his thumb stroking her neck, making her feel a tingling sensation all over.

Leaning close to her ear, Mu Yan whispered, "As you command, I will certainly ensure the queen is well attended."

"Quit the sweet talk, lie down!" Zhan Lan pulled Mu Yan’s hand towards the bed.

"Madam, what are you planning?" Mu Yan asked playfully, watching her.

Zhan Lan began to undo his clothes again.

"Madam, gentle now." Mu Yan suddenly frowned as Zhan Lan applied the cold ointment to his wound unexpectedly.

"Does it hurt?" Zhan Lan softened her movements a little.

Suddenly, her arm was swept up by Mu Yan, causing her to tumble onto the bed.

Mu Yan cradled Zhan Lan tightly in his arms, holding her close, murmuring, "Hugging you while sleeping won’t hurt."

...

Early next morning, Vermilion Bird saw that his master and mistress hadn’t woken up from outside the door and was about to leave.

Mu Yan opened the door and asked, "What is it?"

Vermilion Bird nodded in reply, "Reporting, Master, Si Yuzhang has been found."
