Chapter 92: Katana
Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Katana
Axelius walked back with slow steps, swinging his arms lightly and stretching his shoulders.
He reached the seating area where his family sat, still completely frozen in place. No one spoke. Not the Grand Duke, not the Duchess Eloween, not Cedric or Cyruz. Their eyes were locked on him, wide and unblinking, unable to say anything after seeing something they never expected.
Axelius looked at them for a second then raised his hands in a light stretch above his head and said in a relaxed tone, "Now what next? I wanna rest,"
The silence remained, but Ellory broke it with sparkling eyes and an excited expression as she leaned forward in her seat, her hands clenched tightly together with joy.
"That was amazing Brother Axel! It’s so cool! How can you move like that?!" she asked with so much excitement that even Owen was about to bounce again, but Axelius just gave a small shrug, placed a hand under his chin like he was thinking of something else, and said, "You can move like that soon."
Ellory nodded immediately, as if his words were an absolute promise.
Then the announcer, who was still trying to recover from what just happened and began to speak again, stuttering over his words as he read the formal ending part of the trials.
He said that the current trial was finished, and those who failed would have one more chance to try again next year, but if it’s their second time, then the Elders would gather and decide if the person would take another path or be removed from the Dravenhart.
Just then, Axelius raised his hand and called out loud enough for everyone to hear, "Hey! If it’s over, that means we can leave?!"
The announcer paused, blinking, then nodded quickly and answered that yes, they could leave now if they wanted to, or stay for the short celebration, since food and drinks were being prepared for the participants and families to relax and enjoy after the trials.
Axelius waved lazily and replied, "Nah, I’m out of here," before turning around and walking off without even looking back,
The Grand Duke watched his son leave in silence, his expression unreadable, then gave a small nod to a few knights nearby. The knights quietly followed Axelius from a distance.
The rest of the family stayed behind, still stunned, still trying to process what they had seen, "What th-- How is that possible?!" Cyruz said, hardly believing what they witness.
The Grand Duchess shofly spoke, "I don’t see him training, Did Andrius or knights trained Axelius?"
"That’s impossible, Mother" Cedric mumbled.
Murmurs in the crowd and slowly returned to normal and the celebration preparations began, but their eyes occasionally glanced toward the path where Axelius had walked away, not sure how to speak about what they just witnessed.
________
Few days later...
In the hidden room beneath the Dravenhart estate, Inside the stone-walled secret room where the Primal Veil Core once pulsed with ancient power, Axelius was hard at work, sleeves rolled up, sweat on his brow, face half focused, half annoyed.
He stood at the forge, trying to shape the curved metal into a katana blade — the kind of weapon he’d always liked. Fire roared from the enchanted furnace. Sparks danced in the air like fireflies as Axelius hammered down hard, twisting the hot metal with effort.
Above his head is Owen wore a serious face, a pair of tiny glasses over his round eyes, and holding a thick book like a manual.
"Wrong! That angle is too shallow!" Owen barked in his high-pitched voice, bouncing as if to slap Axelius’s shoulder. "You’re going to ruin the edge before it even curves properly! I told you—heat, fold, strike, align! In that order!"
"I am aligning it! Your just reading not helping!" Axelius snapped, glaring at him and slamming the metal harder.
Owen puffing his slime body out like a pufferfish. "I read the books. You’re lucky I’m even helping you. Without me, you’d make a bent kitchen knife!"
Axelius groaned and rolled his eyes. "You’re the only slime I know who reads books for fun."
"And you’re the only noble who tries to blacksmith with zero patience," Owen shot back, flipping his floating book open to another page. "Now reheat it again. You hit it too many times while it was cooling."
Muttering under his breath, Axelius shoved the half-shaped blade back into the forge, the heat glowing through the metal. He crossed his arms and stood there while waiting, scowling.
"I swear if this turns out crooked—"
"It will, if you don’t follow what I say."
"...You’re impossible."
"No. I’m the brain. You’re the hands."
They glared at each other. Then both sighed.
Once the blade was hot enough, Axelius pulled it out and placed it gently on the anvil. He gripped the hammer again, slower this time, more focused, the echoes of metal ringing with rhythm instead of rage.
Owen watched closely, bobbing up and down beside the book. "Good. Now, keep it steady. One... two... fold it gently, don’t force it—yes, that’s it."
"I know," Axelius muttered,
The next hour passed with fewer shouts and more muttered corrections. Owen occasionally made dramatic comments like, "A thousand swords were ruined for every one that became a masterpiece," and
"Metal has memory, don’t give it trauma," while Axelius tried not to snap the tongs in half.
Finally, the blade took shape — slender, curved, dark with a faint silver-blue shimmer. Axelius tied the hilt with black and red leather, then added a small bead charm near the guard.
When it was done, he held the katana up in the low forge light, watching it shine softly. His fingers brushed the edge.
"...Feels right."
Owen now beside him, glasses tilted. "Not bad. For someone who argued every ten seconds, you didn’t ruin it."
Axelius gave a small smirk. "You’re just mad I didn’t follow the book perfectly."
"I’m mad you tried to swing the hammer upside down earlier!" Owen snapped, then puffed and calmed down. "But yeah... it’s a good blade. You did okay, Axel."
"Thanks, puddle brain."
"You’re welcome, hammerhead."
The katana rested against the table now, pulsing softly with a calm mana flow.
