Chapter 1780: Chapter 1774: Disperse Now
"She’s so lazy, there’s no way she’d be able to do it. Besides, if she really could manage, then the whole village wouldn’t treat her like a thief anyway." The speaker didn’t hold back, their words were blunt and unrestrained.
"Qin Xue, doesn’t your family have plenty of vegetables already? Why are you picking them from Aunt Wu’s patch?" Someone who didn’t understand what Qin Xue was up to asked her with confusion.
"My house has had some guests over, and with more people, there’s naturally more mouths to feed. I had to come to Aunt Wu for a bit of help and ’sponsorship,’ you could say. Of course, it’s not like I’m taking her vegetables for free—I know Mrs. Gang is about to give birth soon, so I offered to trade some goods for these vegetables.
Otherwise, Aunt Wu would keep these for Mrs. Gang to eat after she gives birth to help with lactation. It wouldn’t look good for me to be competing with a baby for food, right?" Qin Xue explained with a smile. She figured it wouldn’t be right to let anyone accuse Aunt Wu of favoritism over something like this.
"Well, that makes sense. Your house has had quite a few visitors lately. By the way, Qin Xue, do you know if there’s any way to help someone land a job at the hospital?" After hearing her explanation, someone seized the opportunity to ask.
"I’m really sorry, but I don’t have the ability to do that. Also, the hospital has always been very strict about hiring; there are layers of exams and screenings to go through.
Doctors are responsible for treating patients—if someone isn’t qualified, the hospital wouldn’t dare to hire them. Imagine letting an unqualified doctor treat you—no one would be comfortable with that, right?" Qin Xue’s gentle voice was comforting. It didn’t sound like she was outright rejecting them but like she was genuinely considering their well-being. Even the person who’d asked the question didn’t feel slighted.
"Exactly! Qin Xue is just a doctor; she doesn’t have the authority to decide such things. You shouldn’t trouble her with this." Qin Gang suddenly appeared at the back of the group with his wife, Moli.
"Mom, Qin Xue!" Qin Gang and Moli greeted Aunt Wu and Qin Xue.
"Qin Gang, why did you bring Moli here?" Aunt Wu looked at her son and pregnant daughter-in-law. Moli’s belly was already quite big, and she was about to give birth. Aunt Wu seemed concerned about why Qin Gang had brought her out.
"Mom, we came back home but couldn’t find you. Then we ran into Aunt Lan, who said you and Qin Xue had gone to the fields to pick vegetables. So, we came over to check on you—and treat it as a little exercise." Qin Gang smiled. He had just brought Moli back to her maternal home today, but upon arriving, they realized no one was home, so naturally, they went looking for her.
"Alright then, just make sure you watch over her. Don’t let her fall." Aunt Wu was genuinely a great mother-in-law. Ever since learning about Moli’s pregnancy, she had only asked her to help cook at home and never let her do farm work. Without farm work, there was no way to earn labor points, but their family had worked harder to make up for it so that Moli wouldn’t have to carry her pregnant belly into the fields.
And now, it was almost time—the baby was due soon. It was an exciting time for their family because this would be their first grandchild, a truly meaningful milestone.
"Mom, don’t worry. I’ll be extra careful." Moli knew her body was heavy and clumsy now, so she was already walking with extreme caution.
"Alright, everyone, let’s disperse! It’s just someone picking some vegetables; there’s nothing to see here," Qin Gang said, noticing that everyone was gathering around his family’s patch of land. He couldn’t understand why people would find this particularly interesting—wasn’t this just the way things typically got done?
Of course, Qin Gang hadn’t seen what had happened earlier, so he didn’t realize that people were there to watch the drama unfold. Some were even hoping to take advantage of the situation, but after hearing Qin Xue’s words, they gave up on those notions.
