Reborn in the 80s: She Rewrites Life with Radiance -
Chapter 128: Life Is Like a Dream
Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Life Is Like a Dream
"Qianqian, I’ll be back in a while. Happy New Year to you. I didn’t mean to scare you this morning."
Wu Liang couldn’t find time for the two of them to be alone. Seeing Ye Fu turn around, he quickly walked over to Ye Qian’s side.
"It’s okay. Happy New Year. You should go home early too."
Ye Qian didn’t want to say much more to him.
Wu Liang still wanted to say something, but Ye Qian didn’t give him the chance. She finished speaking and walked towards Ye Fu.
With Ye Qian’s clear rejection, Wu Liang didn’t want to force himself on her.
Since he had to go home for the New Year, they could both cool down for a few days.
He gathered his things, said goodbye to Ye Fu and Ye Qian, and then went home.
Ye Qian was frozen, watching his back.
She felt as though her heart was beginning to reject Wu Liang.
"Stop looking, he’s already gone far."
Ye Fu looked at Ye Qian’s expression and thought she was reluctant to let Wu Liang go, so he said that out of annoyance.
Ye Qian withdrew her gaze and continued with her task, not explaining her change of heart to Ye Fu.
Ye Fu shook his head.
They silently packed up the cake and closed the door to head home.
The atmosphere at home wasn’t like theirs; a delicious aroma wafted through the air.
From afar, you could hear the laughter of Gu Yi and Ye’s mother.
"Qianqian, come quickly. Your sister-in-law just made braised pork. It’s fresh out of the pot. Come and try a piece, it’s delicious."
As soon as Ye’s mother saw Ye Qian and them coming back, she quickly laughed and called out.
Ye Qian looked at the smiling faces of everyone at home. It seemed like everyone was in a good mood except for her.
Suddenly, her mood turned even gloomier.
Wasn’t there anyone to comfort her when she was so upset?
"I’m not eating. You guys enjoy it."
Ye Qian dropped these words and went back to her room, slamming the door shut.
The whole family was left dumbfounded by her outburst.
With Ye Qian’s actions, everyone’s mood wasn’t as good as before.
"This girl, who offended her, or what’s the matter, how come she’s giving us the cold shoulder?"
Ye’s mother was afraid Gu Yi would have thoughts, so she first spoke up towards Ye Qian’s room.
"Mom, I’ll go talk to Qianqian."
Gu Yi tugged at Ye’s mother’s arm.
"Okay, okay, you go and talk to her. If that girl dares to give you any attitude, I’ll go in and scold her."
Ye’s mother had long wanted Gu Yi and Ye Qian to have a talk. They were the same age and must have similar thoughts.
Having Gu Yi do Ye Qian’s mental work was the best choice.
But the atmosphere between the two had been off these days, and she hadn’t felt right bringing it up to Gu Yi.
Now that Gu Yi volunteered, Ye’s mother couldn’t be happier.
"What are you going for, this ungrateful thing."
Ye Hao was genuinely angry, everyone in the family was worried for her.
Yet she didn’t even offer a word of thanks and even got angry at the family.
Ye Hao stepped forward to stop Gu Yi from going to deal with Ye Qian. What if Ye Qian took her anger out on his wife and upset her?
"Alright, I’ll go talk to her calmly and promise not to argue with her, okay?"
Gu Yi pulled down Ye Hao’s hand, holding it with both hands, promising.
Ye Hao knew he couldn’t stop Gu Yi.
"If she takes her anger out on you, just come out immediately, got it? You can’t let yourself get upset."
Gu Yi couldn’t listen to Ye Hao’s words. Ye Fu and Ye’s mother were still there. Was it really okay to say this in front of them?
"Alright, I know. Stop worrying unnecessarily."
After Gu Yi finished speaking, she ignored Ye Hao.
She walked to Ye Qian’s door and knocked.
No one responded from inside.
"Qianqian, I’m coming in, okay?"
Gu Yi spoke while trying to push the door open. Ye Qian hadn’t locked it, so Gu Yi easily opened it.
After Gu Yi came in, she closed the door again.
She saw Ye Qian lying on the bed with her face buried in the blanket.
"Qianqian, chat with your sister-in-law for a bit."
Gu Yi sat at the bed’s edge and gently patted Ye Qian.
After waiting quite a while, Ye Qian slowly sat up.
Gu Yi noticed apparent traces of tears on Ye Qian’s face.
"Sister-in-law, I know I shouldn’t get mad at you all, but I just can’t control it. Before you guys came back, Mom and Dad praised Wu Liang. I also thought I met the one destined for me. But now, everyone’s saying we’re not suitable, yet no one tells me what’s wrong between us."
Ye Qian held back for a few days and couldn’t help but express what was in her heart to Gu Yi.
"Qianqian, do you believe that a family’s environment can influence a person?"
Gu Yi didn’t answer Ye Qian’s question but posed another one to her instead.
"Of course it can influence, but not absolutely, right?"
Listening to Gu Yi, Ye Qian understood she was talking about Wu Liang’s family being poor.
"Yes, we can’t generalize, but we also can’t ignore that it has a significant impact. I don’t know if you’ve noticed during your time with Wu Liang, that he has a particularly strong sense of self-esteem."
Gu Yi also wanted to clear things up with Ye Qian today.
"That’s true, but isn’t that a good thing? It shows he’s dignified and self-respecting."
Ye Qian thought about it and felt Wu Liang did have that, but it shouldn’t be considered a flaw.
"People often desire what they lack the most. Wu Liang’s family is poor, which might not be his personal fault, but growing up in poverty often left him feeling without dignity. That’s why he’s so sensitive in his interactions with others."
Ye Qian didn’t know how to refute Gu Yi’s words.
But Gu Yi didn’t give her the chance.
"Everyone has things they long for, but everything requires moderation. If it goes beyond limits, it creates new problems. If you and Wu Liang end up together, your family backgrounds would differ, and so would your personalities. He might be more sensitive; your careless words or actions might hurt him, and conflicts between you would increase. Is that the kind of relationship you desire?"
After saying all this, Gu Yi quietly looked at Ye Qian.
As Ye Qian listened to Gu Yi, she recalled last night’s dream. In the dream, just as Gu Yi described, they argued daily over trivial matters. Even in the dream, Ye Qian felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness.
"Sister-in-law, I had a nightmare last night. In it, I lived a life just like the one you described. This morning, when I went to the store, Wu Liang got angry at me for disturbing his sleep, and his anger was exactly like in the dream."
Talking about it, Ye Qian still felt a lingering fear.
Gu Yi found it quite amazing. Had Ye Qian dreamed about her past life?
"Qianqian, you know why I’m against you two being together? It’s because I also had a dream."
Gu Yi decided to tell Ye Qian what she knew, framing it as a dream, hoping Ye Qian would refocus her feelings away from Wu Liang.
She retold everything she had discussed with Ye Hao to Ye Qian.
After listening, chills ran up Ye Qian’s spine.
She was certain she hadn’t shared her dream with anyone. But what Gu Yi said was exactly like what she dreamed about.
