Chapter 415: You Killed My Mother

Chapter 415: Chapter 415: You Killed My Mother

Zhao Wenkai firmly believed that Wang Chun wouldn’t go upstairs, hence the statement he made. Even if Wang Chun held slight doubts, they were ultimately dispelled by his words.

This man’s plots were too deep, each move calculated to a tee.

If transported to ancient times, he would certainly be an outstanding schemer in palace conflicts.

Zhao Wenkai nodded, "Alright, I’ll take you to see her another time. Let’s go, it’s cold outside."

Wang Chun was slightly puzzled, "Are you also going back now? What about Mr. Wang?"

"I was originally planning to head back after dropping him off for some rest, and I just happened to run into Miss Tong," Zhao Wenkai said, intentionally taking another look at Tong Yao upon concluding his statement.

After noticing Zhao Wenkai, Wang Chun had been talking to him and only just remembered Tong Yao. She approached and, linking arms with Tong Yao, said: "Yaoyao, let’s get in the car first."

"Alright."

This series of events had taken Tong Yao completely by surprise. With Zhao Wenkai’s presence, there was little else she could say and was left with no choice but to follow them into the car.

As they were leaving, Zhao Wenkai shot a cold glance back at the reception desk, where a girl had been quietly watching the entire scene. The intense gaze gave her a start, prompting her to hurriedly duck her head and feign busyness.

When the three of them approached the car, Xiaoliu immediately opened the door. Seeing Zhao Wenkai, he showed no surprise, instead looking a little tense as he lowered his head and greeted, "Boss."

Zhao Wenkai muttered a response before falling silent.

With Zhao Wenkai’s addition, Tong Yao tactfully sat in the front passenger seat, leaving the back seat for the couple. Ever since Zhao Wenkai appeared, Xiaoliu seemed flustered, as if fearful of something. His exaggerated tension did not go unnoticed by Wang Chun.

She looked at him with concern, "Xiaoliu, do you feel unwell? You look pale."

Upon sensing Zhao Wenkai glancing at him from the rear-view mirror, Xiaoliu couldn’t help but stiffen up, breaking out in cold sweat despite the wintry season.

"I might have eaten something bad in the morning. My stomach feels a bit uncomfortable."

Visibly concerned, Wang Chun asked, "Do you need to go to the hospital?"

Xiaoliu glanced at the rear-view mirror and, startled, stuttered in response, "I-I’m fine now."

Just as Wang Chun was about to say something else, Zhao Wenkai interjected, "We haven’t visited your parents for a while. We have some time today, why don’t we pay them a visit?"

True enough, they hadn’t been to her parents’ home in a while. Just yesterday, her mother had called to ask when they were free to come over for a meal.

Wang Chun did want to visit, but considering Tong Yao’s presence, she hesitated.

"But Yaoyao..."

She had initially planned to spend the day with Yaoyao.

Zhao Wenkai, reading her intentions, addressed Tong Yao from behind her. "Miss Tong, given that you have many chain stores to manage, I’m sure you’re quite busy. Why don’t we give you a lift to your tea shop later? Miss Tong, how does that sound?"

Ha.

Tong Yao sneered inwardly. Zhao Wenkai sure had cunning intentions; he probably feared her getting a chance to talk with Wang Chun, right?

"Thanks for considering me, I could use a lift to the tea shop. There are indeed many things to handle there."

Upon hearing this, Wang Chun whispered to Tong Yao, "Yaoyao, I’ll come over to play with you tomorrow."

"Alright." Tong Yao nodded. Looking at the rear-view mirror, she saw Wang Chun blissfully resting her head on Zhao Wenkai’s shoulder, and wasn’t quite sure what to say for a moment.

With the snowy conditions, the car didn’t go very fast. Wang Chun and Zhao Wenkai chatted on and off during the ride. Zhao Wenkai, acting as though nothing was amiss, was not in the least perturbed. Occasionally, he would even engage Tong Yao in conversation.

However, the topic would always revolve around Si Chen.

Tong Yao knew that Zhao Wenkai was deliberately trying to unsettle her.

When they reached the tea shop, Tong Yao said goodbye to Wang Chun. She keenly noticed Zhao Wenkai’s smirk and, rolling her eyes, turned and entered the tea shop.

With the weather being so snowy, fewer people were out and about, and correspondingly, there were fewer people drinking milk tea. Deng Wenwen, bored out of her mind, instantly lit up when she saw Tong Yao arrive.

"Sister Yaoyao, I thought you weren’t going to come today." The day before, she’d overheard Tong Yao and Wang Chun discussing a visit to the suburb.

"I went for a quick visit to the suburb and came back. How’s business today?" Tong Yao asked as she opened the ledger on the counter. The year-end was approaching and she still hadn’t finished tallying the accounts for all the stores.

"Business hasn’t been great. The shop across, however, is doing really well." Deng Wenwen’s face fell as she broached the subject of business. "Sister Yaoyao, should we hold a promotional event like the store across from us? I feel like most people go there for their promotions."

Tong Yao cast a glance at the shop across the street and shrugged her shoulders. "It’s almost New Year, it’s a bit late to start a promotion now. Let’s reconsider it next year."

While she was out, she had noticed a few other milk tea shops in other areas. As more and more people started selling milk tea, making big money from these shops was becoming increasingly difficult. If they wanted to earn more, they had to keep up with the times, and at the very least, find the right approach.

Selling milk tea was, after all, a temporary measure.

Deng Wenwen nodded. Seeing a customer enter, she perked up and was about to take their order, but upon recognizing the newcomer, her eyes widened and she instinctively called out to Tong Yao, "Sister Yaoyao, look who’s here."

Tong Yao looked up to see a figure approaching the counter. Before she could discern who it was, Si Xiaohui had already charged towards her, swearing and making a scene. Luckily, Deng Wenwen managed to restrain her.

Unable to attack Tong Yao physically, Si Xiaohui resorted to verbal assaults. "Tong Yao, you little slut, you caused my mother’s death! I’ll fight you to the death..."

Hearing the words ’caused my mother’s death,’ Tong Yao’s mind felt like it had exploded. Lin Fengying was dead?

She was causing trouble for her parents only yesterday, and now, she’s suddenly dead?

This was too sudden!

Even though she despised Lin Fengying at the moment, she was Si Chen’s biological mother after all.

"What happened to your mother?"

"My mother committed suicide by ingesting rat poison due to the stress you caused. What do you think happened to her? You bewitched my brother, causing him to sever the mother-son bond and drove my mother to commit suicide. Without you, there’s no way my mother would’ve committed suicide. It’s all your fault, you jinx, you wicked witch..."

The more Si Xiaohui cursed, the nastier her words became. She’d have liked nothing more than to drag Tong Yao’s ancestors through the mud and lash out at all eighteen generations of her family.

She initially thought that yesterday’s incident would have led Tong Yaohui and his wife to force Tong Yao to divorce her brother. But instead, not only hadn’t her brother divorced Tong Yao, he even went to sever ties with their mother first thing in the morning. By the time she found out about it, her mother had already ingested rat poison.

Everything was Tong Yao’s fault. Without her, why would her mother have ingested poison?

Life had been getting better, and her mother hadn’t even had a chance to enjoy it yet.

Though Si Xiaohui was selfish, she genuinely cared about Lin Fengying deep down.
