Chapter 627: Chapter 627: Mischief (3 more)
Jin Dabao refused to let Xu Niannian hold him, leaving her with no choice but to sigh helplessly and pick up Xiao Bao to hold instead.
With a smack, she kissed Xiao Bao’s face, and Dabao gave her a glance before turning his head away, huffing. He was not envious at all.
After Xu Niannian was injured, Jin Nanxi and Ye Qin had taken Dabao and Xiao Bao back home, which Elder Master Jin found very strange.
Wasn’t it said that Niannian had gone to Nancheng?
Why had Dabao and Xiao Bao come back again?
And after a single trip out, Dabao and Xiao Bao were gone again.
The elder felt that something was amiss.
The next morning, as Jin Nanxi and Ye Qin were coming downstairs, Elder Master Jin, leaning on his walking stick, stood at the staircase entrance.
"Dad, you’re in the way, please let us through," Jin Nanxi said nonchalantly.
Elder Master Jin prodded the ground with his walking stick: "Where are Dabao and Xiao Bao?"
"This..."
The words caught in Jin Nanxi’s throat. To her dismay, she realized she had almost completely ignored the elder these past days.
She had completely forgotten to cover it up.
Seeing Jin Nanxi’s silence, Elder Master Jin’s face grew darker and darker: "Tell me, where did you take Dabao and Xiao Bao yesterday?"
Ye Qin saw Jin Nanxi standing there without uttering a word, her eyes darting around, and hurriedly tried to explain: "Dad, it’s like this..."
"I want to hear it from Nanxi, you keep quiet," the elder said angrily.
His daughter-in-law, as articulate as she was, he wanted the truth, which meant asking his foolish daughter who was not quick on the uptake.
Ye Qin, feeling helpless, closed her mouth.
It seemed there was no avoiding it now.
As Jin Nanxi worried about what excuse to find, Elder Master Jin’s ominous words reached her ears.
"Jin Nanxi, dare to lie to your father and I’ll break your leg."
"Ouch."
Jin Nanxi instinctively covered her leg.
The elder was instantly furious, realizing that this foolish girl had indeed been pondering how to deceive him.
One by one, they had all grown too bold.
"Speak, I want the truth."
Seeing Elder Master Jin looking as angry as if she had committed an unforgivable crime, Jin Nanxi resignedly told him the whole truth.
She only didn’t dare to describe the seriousness, merely stating that Jin Yu and Niannian had suffered minor injuries and were staying in the hospital.
Jin Yu’s last injury, while life-threatening, had passed, and he had already regained consciousness; as long as he recuperated properly, there was basically no serious issue.
The main concern was Xu Niannian, who they didn’t know if she had woken up yet.
Hearing that Xu Niannian was injured, Elder Master Jin’s eyes widened and he stabbed the ground several times with his cane: "You should have said so sooner."
The elder was worried. Xu Wentian and Gao Lihong had entrusted their granddaughter to his grandson, and she had been injured on their watch.
How would they explain this later?
Their treasure, not properly protected by his family.
Deep down, Elder Master Jin was only preoccupied with Xu Niannian’s injuries, showing no concern for Jin Yu, the once most favored grandson, as long as he knew the boy wasn’t dead.
As long as he wasn’t dead, it wasn’t a serious matter.
When Elder Master Jin and others arrived at the hospital room, the family of four were sleeping peacefully.
Last night, Dabao had cried all night, utterly heartbroken, adamantly refusing to sleep with Xu Niannian and insisting on clinging to Jin Yu and not letting go.
Having no choice, Jin Yu had to take him to sleep, while Xu Niannian took care of Xiao Bao.
The proud Dabao, though sleeping with his dad, still missed his mom. During sleep, he sometimes raised his little head to peek at Xu Niannian’s bed.
Lying prone, he occasionally stealthily raised his head to look.
Seeing Xu Niannian gently patting Xiao Bao’s back, he huffed and angrily planted his head on Jin Yu’s body.
It just so happened to hit Jin Yu’s shoulder wound. Jin Yu gasped in pain and grabbed Dabao by the back of his neck: "Sleep properly."
Jin Dabao huffed. He wouldn’t obey. He would keep hitting you, just to ignore him.
Defiant to the end, Jin Dabao was determined to be mischievous, laboriously arching his little head, intent on doing damage to Jin Yu.
Unfortunately, his fate was sealed with his neck in a firm grip, and despite his head pounding away, he couldn’t free his neck.
Dabao sulked and pouted, and with an "aww," he cried again.
Jin Yu frowned. He himself hadn’t cried yet, and this brat was already in tears.
Jin Yu clenched his teeth. Ouch, it really hurt. The wound had split open again. Such a foolish son!
And so, Jin Dabao made a fuss all night. Xu Niannian wanted to hold him, but he wouldn’t let her, giving both Xu Niannian and Jin Yu a hard time.
Both of them were injured at the time.
But Xu Niannian was only nominally injured.
Despite her wounds, she didn’t feel pain at all, as if nothing had happened.
Apart from feeling pain when initially injured, now only the seeping blood from her wounds looked frightening.
Jin Yu was the one truly suffering from being tormented with severe injuries.
This resulted in both Xu Niannian and Jin Yu oversleeping the next day.
Elder Master Jin stormed into the hospital room and, upon seeing the whole family of four sleeping soundly, he almost withdrew his foot.
It was as if he had intruded into someone else’s little world.
He seemed superfluous.
He had come to confront Jin Yu.
He wanted to ask why he hadn’t protected his wife properly.
The main reason Elder Master Jin was so angry was that he feared being scolded by Gao Lihong later.
