The weather turned colder, and Xu Niannian laughed softly as she kissed Xiao Bao’s face, which was as white as a peeled egg.

He was even fairer than Xu Niannian and Da Bao, and because the little baby was so small, he looked a bit girly.

The old master didn’t mind. They were both his treasures, and holding the obedient Xiao Bao, the old master entered the house cheerfully chatting away with the baby who was still sound asleep.

Beijing was truly getting cold rapidly—although it was cold on the day they sent Yang Cuihua and Xu Dawei away, it wasn’t to the point of not wanting to step out the door.

Nevertheless, the next day, a heavy snow began to fall outside.

When Xu Niannian got up in the morning and opened the window, she was greeted with a vista of icy snowscapes.

Xu Niannian loved snow and felt her spirits lift at the sight of the world outside clad in shimmering frost.

"Such beautiful snow," she remarked.

But as soon as she opened the window, the cold wind gushed in with such force that she couldn’t keep her eyes open—she had no idea how strong the wind was from inside.

Thus, she didn’t hold the window latch tightly enough.

Unexpectedly, just as Xu Niannian opened it, the wind blew the window wide open, crashing the glass against the stone wall behind it. Fortunately, the glass didn’t break, protected by the wooden frame.

Large gusts of wind and snow also swept into the room, blinding Xu Niannian.

"Phew, what a strong wind." Xu Niannian hastily drew the curtains closed and planned to go back to bed for a bit more sleep.

But just as she turned around, she saw her Da Bao and Xiao Bao sitting bewildered on the bed, with two snowflakes on Da Bao’s head.

The two little babies had been awakened by the cold draft; Da Bao had been dreaming he was in the Demon Realm, soaking in hot springs with a bevy of beauties, when he was suddenly shocked awake by the cold, sitting up in a daze.

With a silly look on his face, Da Bao gazed at Xu Niannian while Xiao Bao simply sat up unaffected. The two chubby babies perched in their bed softened Xu Niannian’s heart with their cuteness.

However, this wasn’t the time to be charmed. Xu Niannian hurried over to brush the snowflakes off Da Bao’s head and kissed his chubby cheek, "Dear baby, I’m sorry, Mommy was wrong."

Da Bao let out a "woof" and rubbed his face affectionately against Xu Niannian’s body, shoving his little head here and there.

Xu Niannian smiled as she ruffled his head, "Alright, alright, you’re such a good boy, Da Bao."

Then she kissed Xiao Bao’s face as well.

Whenever Xiao Bao was awake, it seemed that Xu Niannian never got to kiss him because most of the time he was asleep, so there was little reaction from him when Xu Niannian kissed him.
