Chapter 576: Chapter 394: Family Reunion

Today before dawn, Nuan really gave it her all, asking for encouragement~

"Slap!"

"Slap!"

Che Xiaoli hadn’t even reached Chuxia when her cheeks, left and right, each took a hit. The ones who struck her were two young men she didn’t recognize, one refined and the other rugged. No matter how much of a tough woman she considered herself, used to seeing all life’s storms, it took her a long while before she could move her eyes again, as for the pain... she had already forgotten it....

After pinching herself several times to make sure she wasn’t dreaming, Zhao Yulan was both shocked and overjoyed as she clung to her daughter, stammering, "Xia, you... how did you get here?"

"Mom, it’s a long story. I’ll tell you later." Chuxia pulled Zhao Yulan over to the group of people who had come with her and began to introduce them one by one, "Mom, this is Grandpa Lin Shenghong, this is Grandma Ye Li, this is Uncle Lin Zhidong, this is Aunt Jiang Xinwan, and this is cousin Lin Wenbin."

It was Lin Wenbin and Jing Zhe "Tongzi" who had slapped Che Xiaoli from left to right.

Lin Wenbin, standing at 1.86 meters tall with a robust physique and a dark complexion, presented a stark contrast to the refined-looking Jing Zhe.

"Sister-in-law, hello. Can you take us to see the second brother?" It was Lin Zhidong who spoke, the husband of Jiang Xinwan, and on closer inspection, he indeed resembled Lin Baohe noticeably.

"Yes, yes, yes..." Without further explanation, Zhao Yulan knew these must be her husband’s relatives. As for the speed of the events unfolding, she had completely entered a state of confusion, with her mouth greeting and her legs moving, but inside she had no idea what she was doing.

As the group seemed to pay her no mind and walked past, Che Xiaoli finally snapped back to her senses and hurried to grab Zhao Yulan: "You stop right there, explain yourself before you go, how dare you seduce my husband, hit me, and find others to hit me? Zhao Yulan, you really are becoming shameless."

"It seems you really were not hit hard enough to learn your lesson!" Chuxia kicked Che Xiaoli’s backside, sending her tumbling to the ground.

When she and her mother last came to ask Jiang Yuesheng for help, this woman had cruelly beaten her mother to a pulp. Unfortunately, at the time, she was too weak to be of much help, and instead, this woman had left several bruises on her body. Now, seeing this mean face, Chuxia could hardly contain her anger.

"You, you, you..." Che Xiaoli was so angry she couldn’t find the words to speak.

"Mom, what’s wrong?" A girl in her early twenties rushed over, helped Che Xiaoli to her feet, and then turned to look disapprovingly at Chuxia and the others, "Did you push my mom down?"

"It was me." Chuxia, taking full responsibility, stepped forward with a bold stance.

"Do you know who my dad is?" The girl straightened her back and asked.

So here was the ancestor of "my dad is Li Gang"! Chuxia’s lips twitched slightly, then she turned around and continued on, pulling Zhao Yulan with her, her main concern now being to see her father.

Having rushed back to the village early in the morning only to discover her father had been hospitalized, she was beside herself with worry. On the way there, she nearly drove the driver mad with her urgency.

Thankfully, Grandpa Lin Shenghong was a reasonable man, and the Lin family truly did care about her father’s illness, showing tolerance for her impatience.

Che Xiaoli and her daughter certainly wanted to follow, but how could the Lin Family’s drivers and bodyguards be pushovers? Before the women could even shout, they were dragged out of the hospital’s main entrance and dumped outside.

Well, even if they were just thrown outside, their face was lost completely. But by then, Che Xiaoli had come to understand that she might really have misunderstood Chuxia, yet even if it was a misunderstanding, it couldn’t be forgiven. Couldn’t they have talked it out instead of resorting to violence?—She seemed to have forgotten who had thrown the first punch.

Lin Baohe was still fast asleep.

Chuxia sat on the bed, holding her father’s hand, watching his noticeably thinner face and his stubbly chin, tears rolling down her face like pearls falling off a string.

The Lin family members watching this scene also felt a tug at their heartstrings.

On the way there, Chuxia had frankly recounted her parents’ hardship to them. Although the Lin family had a status far beyond the reach of common folk, their hearts were kind, and the sympathy they felt for Lin Baohe’s suffering was genuine.

This gave Chuxia great relief. Even though she had not found kind adoptive parents, her actual relatives were reliable. They were not out to take advantage but to share heartfelt family bonds, something she knew mattered to her father.

Watching his little cousin crying pitifully, Lin Wenbin also started to sniffle in a low voice. Jing Zhe, standing beside him, was surprised, not knowing what to make of the situation. A tall, grown man weeping like this was something he had yet to get used to.

"My little Chuxia is so adorable, I like her," Lin Wenbin said, his voice choked with emotion.

Jing Zhe’s forehead was filled with lines of frustration. "If you like it, just like it, but why cry? Alright, you can cry if you want to, but could you please try to be a bit more graceful about it? A big man like a black bear, what’s with this act like you’re a delicate needle in embroidery?"

Zhao Yulan stood to the side, not knowing what to do, unsure whether to console him or not, to speak up or remain silent... In short, she was about ready to tie herself in knots over it...

The sudden influx of people startled Fat Auntie too, but luckily, Luo Gangshun had come as well and took on the task of explaining things to her.

"Brother, could you take a look at my dad?"

Half-conscious, Lin Baohe didn’t open his eyes at the sound of his daughter’s voice; instead, he squeezed them shut even tighter—as even in a dream, hearing his daughter’s voice was bliss.

Next, he felt his wrist being grasped; someone was taking his pulse. Yes, he could feel that.

"How is it?" That was his daughter’s voice.

"Anxiety flaring up on top of being tired and worried recently has all come out at once. It’s nothing serious, a few days of rest and he’ll be fine." That was Jing Zhe’s voice; he could recognize it too.

That wasn’t right; his dreams couldn’t possibly be this vivid. Could it be...? He secretly opened his eyes just a sliver and saw his daughter’s familiar face.

"Chuxia?" Lin Baohe called out tentatively.

"Dad, you’re awake?" Chuxia leaned in closer. "Dad, I’ve only been gone for two days, and you’ve already gotten yourself into this state? How can this be? Didn’t you promise me before I left that you wouldn’t bother with those old folks anymore, and not to care about outsiders’ nonsense, that you would wait for my news? Why didn’t you listen?"

"Yulan, Yulan..." Lin Baohe’s gaze shifted over the faces, each showing a touch of excitement, but when he saw Lin Shengjiang and Lin Zhidong, he stiffened—those two resembled him so much!

"Baohe, what’s wrong?" Zhao Yulan hurriedly approached, looking at him intently. "Do you need to go to the bathroom?"

"No, didn’t you say you didn’t send a telegram to Chuxia? How did she come back then?"

"You’re really muddled. Even if I did send a telegram, it wouldn’t have arrived by now, right?" Zhao Yulan said helplessly, glancing at him. "Why don’t you trust me? Would I lie to you if I said I didn’t send one?"

"Then..." Lin Baohe felt like he almost understood, but his mind was muddled, and he couldn’t grasp the key point, which made him break out in a sweat.

"Dad, they are all your relatives, this is your elder uncle..." Chuxia carefully introduced each person to Lin Baohe. After Old Master Lin sat next to Lin Baohe, she quietly moved back to stand beside Fat Auntie. "Auntie, you’re so kind."

"Of course, I am." Fat Auntie said, her eyes bearing tears of joy. "I’m genuinely happy for your dad. To have a capable daughter like you, how many lifetimes of blessings must he have accumulated? How come you are so capable? In just two days, you brought people back with you. Ay, your mom and I were just worrying yesterday about how to help your dad lighten his load, and today, you’ve brought the relief."

"Auntie, can you tell me exactly what happened?" Chuxia asked while glancing at Luo Gangshun. "I asked Uncle Gangshun, and he wouldn’t tell me the details."

"What business is it of a big man like me to butt into these matters?" Luo Gangshun said defensively and shuffled towards Lin Baohe’s bedside, putting some distance between himself and those gossiping.

Lin Baohe was utterly unable to come to terms with the fact that his relatives had been found, or rather, he was unable to adapt to it more accurately, even though Chuxia explained everything clearly. Even though Lin Shenghong held his hand warmly, he still couldn’t connect himself with these people.

The Lin family members weren’t in a hurry either. Not just Lin Baohe was still feeling in the fog; they themselves were still not quite clear on everything up till now. Had it not been for the strong bond among the brothers, Lin Shenghong wouldn’t have been so eager to move the family graves to bring his nephew back.

"Zhilang, I know you can’t accept this all at once, but it’s okay; we have plenty of time to get to know each other. Gradually, you will accept it," Lin Shenghong said, his large hand patting Lin Baohe’s head comfortingly as he chuckled. His name should be Lin Zhiliang, a name given to him by his father, Lin Shengjun, and his mother, Qi Qing.

The large hand on his head, warm and comforting, brought instant moisture to Lin Baohe’s eyes. He had never been treated with such tenderness; not since he was a child!

"Elder Uncle." This calling of ’elder uncle’ came from the heart, not with a polite distance, but a genuine acknowledgement of the other’s familial status.

"Ah!" Grandpa Lin could clearly sense the change in his attitude and tone. He happily responded, but for the moment, didn’t know what else to say.

Jiang Yuesheng’s hospital room was also lively, but his liveliness was different from Lin Baohe’s. His wife was cursing him to death, pointing at his forehead.

"If you hadn’t messed with that damned girl, would I have gotten so angry? Would I have been bullied inexplicably? Marrying you has been the bad luck of eight lifetimes. I don’t care; you have to go and vent for me!" Che Yali, sitting next to the hospital bed, was practically spitting as she spoke. (To be continued.
