Chapter 368: Chapter 255: Recent Developments
"If I keep you here, I would really lose this job," Aunt Song said to Liu Lingmei with a smirk, "If I were you, I wouldn’t entertain any twisted ideas."
Liu Lingmei’s eyes widened in shock. "Are you Xiao Bingqi’s woman?"
Aunt Song’s gaze on Liu Lingmei was filled with deep contempt, "Just because you’re filthy doesn’t mean everyone else is."
"You..." Liu Lingmei was so angry she was at a loss for words. Had she really been reduced to being scolded by a nanny?
As she stood there fuming, Aunt Song went and brought out her clothes in a bag. "You brought just these when you arrived."
Liu Lingmei sat down angrily on the sofa. "I will wait for my daughter to come back. I am Xiao Yuwen’s mother-in-law, and I have the right to wait for my daughter here."
"If it wasn’t for what happened at noon today, I wouldn’t have asked you to leave, but now..." Aunt Song shook her head, "You must leave immediately, or else I will tell your daughter everything you’ve done."
Liu Lingmei glared at her. "Who on earth are you? A regular nanny wouldn’t act like you do."
"I am just a regular nanny, but I’ve worked in this house for twelve years and have come to regard it as my own home." Aunt Song pointed to the large duffel bag on the floor, "Shall I throw your things out and call the guard to eject you?"
Seeing Aunt Song didn’t look like she was joking, Liu Lingmei grudgingly got up and took her things to leave. A smart person doesn’t suffer obvious losses; if she were really thrown out, where would she put her face?
...
In the past few days, Chuxia had experienced her most delightful times since arriving in this era.
She’d wake up in the morning, help Sister-in-law Yin with breakfast, then spend time with Elder Wan playing chess before practicing the piano for two hours.
After lunch, she took a half-hour nap, then went to the Zhou family to spend time with Old Master Zhou, Old Madam Zhou, and Lin Yanqiu, and stayed for dinner.
After dinner, she stayed about an hour, afterwards Zhou Xikang and Yu Tao escorted her back to the Wan family. They did this out of concern that something unexpected might happen and they wouldn’t be able to protect Chuxia adequately. As long as things remained unclear, they had to be very cautious.
If you exclude the drastic changes currently facing the Zhou family, and that Zhou Jingping and Zhou Mikang were still under dual regulations, these days were indeed to Chuxia’s liking.
Previously, practicing the piano felt like torture, but now, those two hours in front of the piano were her calmest moments.
She no longer reminisced involuntarily about the past like she used to when sitting at the piano; now, she mainly used it to calm her mood.
These past couple of days, Old Master Zhou had seemed particularly displeased. Every time she visited, he would speak with a smile, but when she looked into his eyes, there was not a hint of joy; he was merely feigning happiness.
So, did that mean the situation was getting worse?
She wanted to ask Elder Wan, but felt it wasn’t appropriate, so she kept her concerns to herself. With her current status, not causing trouble was indeed the biggest help she could offer.
Beyond that, she also worried about her parents and whether they had been mistreated by Old Master Lin and Old Lady Lin after returning home.
Zhou Hanliang had seen her once after returning and told her that all of the Lin family relatives had been sent back to their hometown. He stressed that Old Master Lin and Old Lady Lin had deliberately stationed her cousin at her parents’ doorstep.
He said when he drove Uncle Gangshun and Fat Auntie home, the car had just stopped when he saw a young man hastily running away from her home. Then, before he had finished a glass of water at Uncle Gangshun’s house, Old Master Lin and Old Lady Lin had marched there along with her uncle’s and third uncle’s families in full force.
Zhou Hanliang also told her that he was worried her parents might be bullied upon returning, so he deliberately chatted with Old Master Lin and Old Lady Lin for a while. Between the lines, he implied that if Lin Baohe and Zhao Yulan were mistreated, Zhou Mikang would decisively retaliate against those responsible.
Whether they would heed the warning, he couldn’t guarantee; he could only try his best, as after all, they were her grandparents and he couldn’t overstep his bounds.
When he heard that the couple, Lin Baohe and his wife, had returned to Dalin Village right after him, he was stunned for a long while before finally reassuring Chuxia, pondering perhaps he was overthinking it.
Chuxia knew he was worried that she would impulsively rush back to her hometown; if the news leaked and she lost the protection of the Wan and Jing families, she’d be utterly vulnerable!
