Chapter 328: Chapter 228: The Incident (Two Chapters Combined)

Chuxia glared at Old Master Wan, a dark line forming on her forehead, "Grandpa Wan, when you were in Dalin Village, my family didn’t even have ownership of half a room. To say such things now is clearly to make fun of others. You really are too unkind!"

"Hehe..." Old Master Wan squinted his eyes with a smile and gestured for Chuxia to sit on the sofa, "I haven’t seen you for a few months, Xiao Chuxia’s verbal skills have gotten much sharper."

"Thank you for the compliment, Grandpa Xie."

The smile on Old Master Wan’s face deepened, "Do you think I am praising you?"

Chuxia said with utmost seriousness, "Of course!"

"Hahaha..." Elder Wan burst out laughing.

"Grandpa, you shouldn’t laugh at people like that..." Chuxia pouted slightly, "I cultivate both internal and external qualities, I am not all show."

"Hahaha..." Old Master Wan’s laughter became even more hearty, "Xiao Chuxia, Grandpa is looking forward to the day when you are accomplished both inside and out."

A woman in her early fifties came out of the kitchen with a plate of sliced fruit, smiling respectfully at Old Master Wan and placing the fruit plate in front of Chuxia, "Comrade, please have some fruit."

Chuxia nodded politely to her, "Thank you!"

Old Master Wan turned to the woman, "Sister-in-law Yin, Xiao Chuxia is my honorary granddaughter. She and her parents will be living here for a while. Go and get two rooms ready."

"Yes, Elder Wan, I’ll go right away."

After Sister-in-law Yin went upstairs, Chuxia looked earnestly at Old Master Wan, "Grandpa, I will be filial to you."

"Good." Old Master Wan nodded with a smile, "It’s only right to give and take."

Chuxia chuckled, "Grandpa, you’ve changed."

Old Master Wan raised his eyebrows, "What’s different about me?"

Chuxia thought for a moment and then said, "You were always amiable, but not as much as you are now."

Actually, Chuxia always wondered about her interactions with the real Old Master Wan. She could be considered a girl spoiled with affection, but she always had great respect for Old Master Wan. Because of this, she could often go over to his place to flip through his books.

"Silly child, in the past, Grandpa was carrying a bad reputation, so my mood is naturally different from now." Old Master Wan sighed softly but then put on a smile again, pointing to the piano standing at the corner of the room, "Little miss, didn’t you say you have a knack for musical instruments? Grandpa will teach you piano, would you like to learn?"

Clearly, Old Master Wan did not want to dwell on the past and used this moment to change the subject. Chuxia promptly agreed, moving forward with curiosity and pressing down on the piano keys.

Listening to the crisp sound of the piano, her heartstrings pulsed inexplicably.

She disliked practicing the piano because it had become a task. Now, touching the familiar keys again, the feeling in her heart was entirely different.

After all, it was something that had accompanied her growth since childhood. To say there was no attachment was impossible. Just like now, her heart swelled uncontrollably, even feeling an impulsive urge to sit down and play a liberating piece.

Of course, she knew that was not possible.

"Grandpa, I like this," Chuxia said, her eyes shining as she looked at Old Master Wan. This might be the best approach. With Old Master Wan as her teacher, she could sit at the piano and play openly and legitimately.

Do people really only cherish something once it’s gone?

Once, she hoped she would never have to see a piano or touch one ever again. Even before this, she had firmly held that belief. But now she knew she had been wrong all along!

When a hobby becomes a chore, it brings pain. But when a hobby remains simply a hobby, it brings joy!

So, her current desire to become a doctor, might it one day become like her feelings towards the piano?

For a moment, her mind was in turmoil.

She had been standing with her back to Old Master Wan, who didn’t see her face and assumed she was just curious about something new. He sat there chuckling, allowing her to touch and explore the piano carefully.

After a while, her mind gradually settled. She was overthinking again!

In the past, living under the protection of her parents, she faced no pressure from life, no trials or tribulations. That’s why a hobby could turn into a chore.

The her of now, however, is striving to provide a stable life for her parents. She may not yet be like a pine standing on a cliff but is nonetheless a tree weathered by wind and rain. Moreover, studying medicine is not a hobby for her, but a goal—so she believes she will become ever more resilient!

Having realized this, her expression eased, and she turned around to look at Old Master Wan with a smile, "Grandpa, may I ask you something?"
