Chapter 267: Chapter 198 Wedding (Part 1)_2

"I think it’s very possible," Auntie Liang Xiaohong said with a chuckle.

Zhou Xikang stepped forward and patted Lin Yanqiu’s back, "Mom, you’ve been through this once, how come you still can’t keep calm?"

"When you married Yu Tao, she wasn’t nearly as nervous as you..." Old Madam Zhou said as she stood up, "No, I’m feeling dizzy from all this spinning, I need to lie down for a bit."

"Mom!" Lin Yanqiu said anxiously as she grabbed Old Madam Zhou’s arm, "I won’t leave anymore, I won’t leave."

"I’ll come down after lying down for a bit; it’s not like I’m not coming down," Old Madam Zhou glanced at her, "I’m not being your mother-in-law for the first day, would I let outsiders see us as a joke?"

"Mom, I know you wouldn’t, but what if the car arrives and you’ve fallen asleep? Waking you up would make you uncomfortable," Lin Yanqiu insisted, pulling Old Madam Zhou to sit beside her, clutching the older woman’s arm tightly and refusing to let go.

Zhou Jingping also joined his wife in persuading, "Mom, just listen to Yanqiu, it’s too uncomfortable to be woken up from sleep like that."

Uncle Zhou Gangping couldn’t help but laugh, "I’ve never seen big brother and sister-in-law this nervous."

Uncle Zhou Shanping also chuckled naively, though he didn’t say much. Today, only he and his son Zhou Huakang came to the wedding from his family; his wife Liu Lingmei and his daughter Zhou Aiping hadn’t come.

Since the engagement banquet last time, his wife and daughter had never visited the Zhou family again, and both treated him with a cold detachment, even hinting at a desire to divorce him.

The Xiao family, where his son-in-law Xiao Yuwen came from, was on the rise, and after the last incident, Xiao Yuwen and the Zhou family had fallen out. This also meant that the Xiao family and the Zhou family had completely broken ties. If his daughter wanted to stay in the Xiao family, she couldn’t associate with the Zhou family. Given his wife’s character, she would surely choose the side that was most beneficial to her, therefore, he became the discardable pawn.

Well, let it be; if they want to divorce, we will divorce. On such a joyous day, if his wife and daughter could ignore his feelings so easily, what was there for him to still cling to?

Fortunately, his son Huakang had always been on his side and that of the Zhou family. Otherwise, he really would have had no face to meet his father and his brother and sister-in-law.

"Here they come! Here they come!"

The shout of his niece brought Zhou Shanping back to the moment. He stood up quickly with everyone else, only to see his son, dressed in a spanking new Zhongshan suit, following behind his nephew Zhou Mikang and his niece-in-law Lin Chuxia, accompanied by a young girl in military uniform entering the hall.

Before the bride and groom entered, Old Master Zhou, Old Madam Zhou, Zhou Jingping, and Lin Yanqiu were already sitting upright in the seats of honor.

Looking at his son and daughter-in-law in military uniforms, Lin Yanqiu was so delighted her eyes nearly disappeared. She had never seen any boy wear a military uniform so heroically, nor had she ever seen any girl wear one so soft and charming. They truly were a match made in heaven!

Zhou Jingping’s feelings were much the same, though being a man, his expression wasn’t as overtly visible as Lin Yanqiu’s.

Chuxia stood quietly beside Zhou Mikang at the lower end, her face seemed calm, but her heart was pounding like a drum. On the way there, to relieve her nervousness, she had been chatting casually with Luo Xiaoqiong, and it worked to calm her nerves; yet the moment she stepped into the Zhou family’s door, her heartbeat went out of control.

Getting married! This is getting married!!!!!!

With trembling hands, she took the tea from the bridesmaid, and in turn offered it to Old Master Zhou, Old Madam Zhou, Zhou Jingping, and Lin Yanqiu. After serving the four cups of tea, her arms were sore and achy... and that was when all four elders were considerate enough to take the tea and drink it quickly...

Seeing her going about everything so nervously, Zhou Mikang felt a bit sorry for her, so he took her in his arms and announced, "Keep it simple; now, to the restaurant."

Everyone: "..." Is it fine to be so protective of your wife?

Fortunately, weddings in this era were not as complicated as in later times; in most families, the procedure was to get the certificate, gather both families, let the newlyweds recite some loyal words, have a meal together, and that was it. The Zhou family was not an ordinary family, and they placed great importance on Zhou Mikang’s wedding, which is why it was relatively grand. Thus, although Zhou Mikang’s actions were a bit unconventional, it didn’t provoke any resentment from the elders.

But seriously, could the elders afford to be upset? They finally got these two stubborn people to agree to marry; how could they dare to object?

Chuxia felt grateful to Zhou Mikang for being so protective, and, in a rare show of initiative, she leaned closer to him. Feeling her closeness, Tongzi, the platoon leader, couldn’t help but curl up the corners of his mouth involuntarily.
