Chapter 196: Chapter 151: Accident

On the main drill ground, the only women’s soldier company of Division A marched past the grandstand in neat steps, followed closely by the last troop of the parade, the women’s medical team.

Unconsciously, Zhou Jingping straightened up, Peng Zuoqi did the same, and then, Qiao Wannian’s spine straightened as well.

Seeing this, the remaining two Military Commanders of the sub-command also craned their necks to look down and were extremely puzzled—why did everyone get so excited upon seeing the women’s medical team? Weren’t they well past the age of getting thrilled by the sight of young women?

But with the big boss himself excited, how could they not be?

Xu Zhenghong’s gaze swept over the men, his heart hanging in his throat. They were at this crucial juncture; nothing untoward should happen.

Suddenly, Qiao Wannian’s brow furrowed, and he craned his neck forward as if to get a clear view of every member of the team.

"Hehe..." Peng Zuoqi chuckled in a way that begged for a scolding, "Old Qiao, pay attention to the impression you make."

Qiao Wannian, with a stern face, sat back down, ignoring Peng Zuoqi.

This action, however, made Peng Zuoqi’s curiosity surge. His eyes returned to the troops below. Although the young female soldiers hadn’t trained for long, he really couldn’t find any faults.

Their steps were uniform, their arm swings accurate, their gaze at the correct angle, and despite a bit of tension on their faces, they still appeared relatively at ease.

Not bad at all, so why the long face, Qiao Wannian?

Truth be told, Peng Zuoqi had indeed hoped to find some fault with the women’s special forces team. When Division A had submitted its application, he, too, considered it, and this had delayed the approval for Division A somewhat. Regardless of the delay, in the end, it was Division A that obtained this privilege.

Even if it was just a small medical team, the significance was different.

This was the first time truly large-scale training for accompanying medical personnel was being conducted. The pilot program and subsequent coverage would mean worlds apart in significance.

But now, seeing the slightly anxious faces of the young women, he lost the heart to nitpick. It was a fight between them; why involve these young women unnecessarily?

Members of the women’s medical team, amidst Peng Zuoqi’s contemplation, marched past the grandstand in neat steps, returning to their own combat positions.

With that, the parade concluded.

In the spirit of this passionate moment, Zhou Jingping affirmed the training results of everyone, praised their performance, looked forward to the next phase of development, and promised to equip them with weapons and gear.

Down below, young and spirited faces immediately brimmed with proud smiles. Which soldier didn’t care for honor? Which didn’t like weapons? Which didn’t crave the top leader’s recognition?

In the midst of the envy and jealousy of the Military Commanders from Divisions B, C, and D, the afternoon’s parade speech concluded and the units returned in turn, waiting for the evening’s gala performance.

After the women’s medical team returned to their base, Zeng Meili quietly let out a sigh of relief, having passed this hurdle without incident. "Thank you all," she sincerely thanked the few female soldiers who had urgently filled in.

"We’re all from the same division; it’s not only your own faces you’d be losing."

A few female soldiers dropped this remark with indifferent expressions and left, clearly showing their unwillingness to have come to the rescue on such short notice.

"Alright, all teams go back for the final rehearsal and prepare for tonight’s performance, dismissed!" Zeng Meili didn’t have the luxury to dwell on their attitude, quickly moving on to the next task.

After all, no matter what, they had come to their rescue this time, and it was only natural for them to be reluctant—after all, who would be happy after training soldiers for a long time, only to be used by someone else at the last minute?

The few who had been poisoned had already been sent back to the dormitory, lying weakly in their beds. When Chuxia and the others came in, they struggled to get up,

"Is the parade over?"

"Didn’t any chaos break out?"

"Was the scene spectacular?"

"..."

After everyone finished asking questions with eager anticipation, they waited expectantly for ChuXia and the others to answer.

"Yeah, it’s over, no chaos, the scene was quite spectacular. By the way, where is the Squad Leader?" ChuXia had finished answering but realized Qiao Ningyi was missing and asked with confusion.

"She went to the bathroom." Lin Mengran replied while slipping on her shoes, "I also need to use the bathroom. I might as well check if she fell in since it has been more than ten minutes already. Why hasn’t she come back?"

"I’ll go with you." ChuXia said as she stepped forward to help her up, remembering how Lin Mengran had coached her in running, a kindness she kept close to her heart.

She had also noticed that this was just the way Lin Mengran was—capricious. She might help you, but not necessarily because she thought well of you; she might not help you, but not necessarily because she disliked you. She acted solely according to her personal preferences.

"Thank you." Lin Mengran rarely expressed gratitude to ChuXia, and after reaching the bathroom, they didn’t find Qiao Ningyi.

"Where could she have gone?" Lin Mengran furrowed her brow and peered down into each toilet stall.

ChuXia rolled her eyes, "Just go to the toilet quickly. These stalls are too narrow for anyone to fall through."

"Right, I really did panic there for a moment." Lin Mengran chuckled to herself, found a stall to squat in, and after finishing, she grabbed ChuXia, "Let’s go find Qiao Ningyi. What if she fainted somewhere along the way?"

"With her size, how could we have missed her when we came here?" ChuXia observed her swiftly moving pace and remarked, "You’re recovering pretty fast, huh?"

"Of course, I have a strong foundation after all. Maybe she took a different path and has already gone back?" Lin Mengran quickened her pace as she spoke.

When the two returned to the dormitory, they still couldn’t find any trace of Qiao Ningyi. Just then, Zeng Meili came over, and they quickly briefed her on the situation.

"I’ll go look for her. You guys discuss the program. We’ll make a final decision when I get back," Zeng Meili said, and disappeared quickly from the doorway.

That left everyone in the room looking at each other, wondering how they were supposed to discuss anything.

Four people going up to sing a chorus?

...

Meanwhile, Xu Zhenghong had settled all the senior officers and had just sat down in his office when the door was pushed open, and Zhou Jingping walked in with a gloomy expression.

Xu Zhenghong hurriedly greeted him, "Military Commander, do you have any instructions?"

"What’s going on with the Women’s Medical Team?"

"What do you mean what’s going on?" Xu Zhenghong looked utterly puzzled.

"Dong dong..." Before Zhou Jingping could speak, the door was knocked again. Xu Zhenghong glanced at Zhou Jingping, and seeing no sign of objection, he said, "Come in!"

A young female soldier entered with a pale face.

"Yi Yi, what happened to you?" Zhou Jingping quickly stepped forward, guided the young soldier to sit down on the couch, and looked her over, "What on earth happened?"
