Chapter 102: Chapter 89 Fainted

I was busy during the day and got delayed, just finished typing.

"Where are you going?" Zeng Meili caught up with Zhou Hanliang and asked in a lowered voice.

Zhou Hanliang deliberately slowed his pace and created some distance from Zhou Mikang before he said, "I told the commander that Lin Chuxia is in the medical team."

"You told him?" Zeng Meili’s eyes widened in an instant, "Madam..."

Zhou Hanliang interrupted her with a shushing sound and shook his head, "I certainly didn’t mention that part."

"If...", Zeng Meili had a pained expression, "If he finds out that we’ve been keeping it from him..."

"What are you two sneaking around for?"

Startled, they both shivered and quickly picked up their pace. Zhou Mikang stood there immobile, staring directly at them, "I’m giving you one more chance."

"I’m asking Captain Zeng for advice on how to coax girls." In his urgency, Zhou Hanliang continued with this lie, and Zeng Meili quickly nodded in agreement, "Yes, exactly."

"Sure?"

"Sure!"

"I hope things are as certain as you say they are," Zhou Mikang turned and continued forward with wide strides.

The two behind exchanged a look and smiled wryly in unison. One lie necessitated ten more to cover it up; they were walking further and further down the path of lies, unable to turn back.

Her legs felt like they were filled with lead, the air she exhaled from her nostrils burned hot, and her heart felt as though it was going to jump out of her throat... This state had been going on for quite a while, and Chuxia was internally chanting, hoping for a breakthrough to relieve her discomfort even slightly.

There was only half a lap left. She was gasping like a malfunctioning bellows, shuffling forward, step by step. Alright, she had officially become the last one in the race.

The girl who had been behind her was now about two meters ahead.

A two-meter distance, which would usually be just a few steps, now felt longer than two thousand meters. She tried desperately to catch up, but it was like the carrot dangled in front of a donkey – so close yet so far.

The girl in front was clearly worried about being overtaken and leaned forward as she trudged on, occasionally glancing back at her.

Luo Xiaoqiong, following beside Chuxia, wished she could carry her to the finish line. However, Zeng Meili’s warning echoed in her ears, so she stayed beside Chuxia, constantly cheering her on.

"Chuxia, there’s at most 300 meters left, hang in there, we’re almost there."

"Chuxia, take slightly bigger steps and regulate your breathing."

"Chuxia, don’t rush, there’s still half an hour before breakfast, you won’t miss it."

A few teammates who had finished running and were strolling to cool down heard Luo Xiaoqiong and burst into laughter.

"Luo Xiaoqiong, you should’ve gotten food from the canteen and ran in front of Lin Chuxia with it. Maybe that would really help her speed up."

"Yeah, that’s a good idea. Next time you should finish running and get food first, instead of wasting time here."

"Exactly, if all fails, just tie a pancake with a string and dangle it in front of Lin Chuxia."

"..."

As the others spoke increasingly unseriously, Luo Xiaoqiong’s fists clenched, "You guys looking for a fight?"

"You want to be penalized?"

Though they said this, the few teammates quickly scattered. After all, fighting meant trouble for both parties, and they didn’t want to tarnish their record on the very first day of official training.

"Act tough if you dare, hmph!" Luo Xiaoqiong stomped her foot in frustration and continued running beside Chuxia. Chuxia wanted to send her to eat, but her throat was so dry she couldn’t make a sound, and she knew that nothing she said would get through to Luo Xiaoqiong at this point.

So, she just let her keep running alongside her.

Sigh, her actual self was much stronger than this body. She had thought that after this period of training, she should be able to keep up with the training pace, but now it seemed she had been too optimistic.

Thinking about it, at home, she could take her time, but it was different here. From the beginning, everyone was eager to perform their best. In running, the last thing you want is to start fast and end slow, but if everyone was fast, she couldn’t just trail behind on her own.

Of course, in reality, if she had just jogged slowly from the start, she probably would have completed the course in less time than she was taking now, but while the logic was clear, when everyone else was rushing ahead, she just couldn’t detach herself and go at her own pace.

People don’t realize what they can’t do until they’re pushed to extreme discomfort.

Luo Xiaoqiong was fully focused on accompanying Chuxia when suddenly a hand landed on her shoulder. She turned to see Lin Mengran.
