Chapter 123: Chapter 122: Preparing for Marriage

When they heard that Lin Wan was getting married, everyone was surprised. They hadn’t noticed Lin Wan interacting with anyone, so how could she be getting married so suddenly?

Grandma Wang thought they met through a matchmaking introduction, but Liang Hongmei said it was Lin Wan’s own relationship. She wanted to take a day off to buy wedding items for Lin Wan.

Grandma Wang and Zhang Shuhua said there was no need to take a day off. Over the past year, Mom’s culinary skills had been mostly mastered by Grandma Wang, and she could handle a day on her own. Besides, fewer people came to the shop to eat during the summer.

In the morning, she and Zhang Shuhua just needed to prepare the take-out orders.

Seeing that the two were insistent, Liang Hongmei agreed. In the morning, after the brother prepared the dishes for the two shops, they rode the tricycle together to the store where they originally bought her design plans. They ordered a two-door wardrobe and a dressing table. Han Yi’s room wasn’t big, so they didn’t get anything else. Once the furniture was ordered, the three went to the department store.

For weddings, regardless of whether it’s for the groom or the bride, one needs to prepare wedding blankets. Liang Hongmei prepared two pairs of brocade blankets for her daughter, one in bright red embroidered with gold-thread flowers, and a pink set. Two sets were pure cotton, one in watermelon red and the other in blue. Lastly, she bought a piece of yellow brocade to make a thin summer blanket.

Liang Hongmei took Lin Wan to buy a wedding dress. The traditional wedding dresses of this era were mostly red jackets and red shirts made of terylene. Lin Wan didn’t like any of them.

They ended up at a fabric store and found material used for making qipaos. Lin Wan decided to make her own wedding dress.

Solid red brocade fabric with dark red patterns could be cut directly when they got home. In her past life, when she married Han Yi, they didn’t have a wedding ceremony because she was attending school and didn’t want her classmates to know she was married. Han Yi didn’t push for it either. Thinking back now, she realized how foolish she was. A once-in-a-lifetime event, how could she not properly celebrate it?

This time, she was determined to be the most beautiful bride, hopefully even captivating Han Yi completely.

Besides, Lin Wan picked out fabric featuring auspicious cloud and peony designs to mix and match back home. These quality fabrics used up quite a bit of fabric coupons, luckily she had been saving hers.

She also chose an embroidered dark pink silk fabric and a nice piece of tulle.

They bought two pairs of leather shoes. Socks, underwear, everything Mom bought for her was complete from the inside out.

What they bought were mostly small items, as the bigger pieces hadn’t been purchased yet.

Liang Hongmei wanted to personally handle every aspect of her daughter’s wedding. Lin Wan was worried about her getting too tired, so she decided to stay at the clay pot restaurant for a few days.

This way, Mom could focus on preparing her dowry.

During the downtime of the past few days, Lin Wan had been designing her wedding dress.

A red long skirt, with a red simple narrow-sleeved inner layer in Chinese style. On the outside, she made a Chinese-style wide-sleeved wedding dress that’s a bit shorter, decorated with peonies and auspicious clouds. The two layers worn together had a great sense of dimension.

With the dark pink embroidered silk fabric, Lin Wan made a modified qipao with three-quarter sleeves, a loose dress paired with tulle, and accented the front with a few small flowers in the same color. It looked both ladylike and retro.

Just as Lin Wan was excitedly showing off her results to Zhang Shuhua, Zhang Shuhua suddenly remarked, "Why does your wedding dress only have the bride’s side? Where’s the groom’s?"

The smile on Lin Wan’s face froze. It seemed she had forgotten this.

"Since you’re wearing traditional clothes, you should follow traditional customs too. It means there must be a bridal sedan chair at the wedding," Zhang Shuhua said with a sly smile.

Lin Wan thought that no matter how beautiful the clothes were, they couldn’t match Han Yi’s military uniform. So, she decided Han Yi should still wear his uniform at the wedding. What a handsome combination of a girl in traditional attire and a groom in a military uniform.

While busy preparing the dowry, Lin Wan didn’t forget about her studies. Lin Yinghui had Li Congnan bring her some practice exam papers, complete with answers.

Lin Wan completed a few, scoring mostly above ninety. If she could maintain this performance, getting in shouldn’t be a problem.
